5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Mobo

Ill Break it down a little

The board looks amazing.
Onboard Sound is surprisingly Great.
3 PCIE 3.0 Slots
Bios is fun and informative
Onboard PWM fan headers that actually work!!
Overclocking is a Breeze 4670K @4.4ghz with barely a voltage bump.
Very Very stable
I love the caps although mine arent gold, they are more like chrome with gold writing but still very nice.

Cons: Z97 comes out a few months later :(

Other Thoughts: I was a long time Asus user. i took a leap of faith with this board and i am so thrilled with it.

4 out of 5 eggsso far so good

Pros: feature rich, hq on board audio, lots of sata ports, though I'm only using 1 lol
seems to handle over clocking well.

Cons: no CIR?! my fault for not noticing, as I built a htpc/gaming rig..
but asrock is big on cir, I thought for sure this board would have pins for a cir..
But unless cir gets better reception from the ir. I don't care TO much about the ability to shut off my htpc via remote.

1 out of 5 eggsStay away!

Pros: Lots of options
Color scheme
Dr debug
No ide
Cmos reset

Cons: Where do i begin...

Sli aux plug faces down, making it impossible to use

Sata ports are obnoxiously picky if you touch the cord in them you might as well plan on getting an error code

Consistently locks my computer up and causes the cursor to freeze for a bit then come back for 10 seconds and this continues until you restart the pc or it freezes your screen and makes all sorts of good noises then just locks up altogether

Installing raid was next to impossible since the instructions are less than useless i eventually kind of figured it out but i don't believe its actually working correctly

Customer support? Lol yea... okay they don't have a phone # that right there is enough to say this company could care less about the customer, they make you fill out a form and then after about a week get back to you with a 2 sentence answer. Mine was try new bios, if that doesn't work rma the board.

Rma? Go look up there reviews on their other boards or just google asrock bent cpu pins, pretty sure i had this problem but after reading the reviews and knowing that asrock will deny they did anything wrong and newegg will also do the same i wasn't about to waste my time doing an rma.

Board itself is pretty thin so don't press down on it thinking it will take the pressure you'll probably break it

Battery is under the gpu, not a huge deal for me but another engineering blunder

Other Thoughts: I bought this mobo knowing that asrock wasn't a top tier company but i was willing to give them a chance because all the features but that's about all this board is all features and that's it nothing really works so naturally I used this mobo when i built my friends pc which was a mistake i should've seen coming but there is no good boards for this socket. His problems are the audio which you can find in other negative reviews and the lan has problems whenever it comes out of sleep mode.

If you do plan on buying this piece of junk make sure to get the longest possible warranty and then buy a video camera and film yourself opening it and checking the cpu pins just to make sure you don't get cheated and don't use a debit card so if newegg or asrock tries to pull a quick one on you, you can just get your money back from your credit card.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Board

Pros: This board is awesome! I got it for a computer I built for my mom and instantly noticed how much better it is than my ASUS Sabertooth 990FX board I have. It worked flawlessly once I got the drivers installed. She has had no issues with it either.

Cons: The ASRock Servers only had a 56Kbps connection or something because it took forever to download the drivers. The ethernet driver was not automatically detected by windows 8.1 so it was a little annoying to have to wait for long downloads and transfer drivers by USB.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great!

Pros: I wanted a board that had a good integrated sound card and an Intel NIC. I was skeptical on buying this board because it had a low review count and most people complained about the sound card, but every hardware site review I read they gave it good ratings. The price was right about what I wanted to spend and there was no other 1150 board that offered the SB sound card and a Intel NIC. So I took a shot and ordered it and man I am so glad I did. Everything setup flawlessly. Overclocked my 4770k to 4.5Ghz with ease. You can't beat this board for the money.

Cons: This really isn't a con, but if you use headphones you need to plug them into the front audio jack for them to work properly when you select headphone in the software. if you leave them plugged into the back and select headphones in the setting you will get no sound.

Other Thoughts: i7 4770k overclocked to 4.5@ 1.2v custom water cooled loop.
16GB Gskill 1600Mhz Ram
EVGA Geforce 780
Samsung 840 Pro SSD

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate to original review

Pros: - Fast
- Lots of sata for storage and more
- Decently powerful board
- Have not had sound problems like others have had

Cons: - I did find out that some features are not available without windows 8 being installed. I'm a windows 7 guy, so I'm a little bummed out about that.
- Front usb port panal cable doesn't want to lock into place, so it's just chilling there. I REALLY don't like that as something could short wiggling around. I will inspect it a bazillionth time to see if I missed something, but yes...scary.

Other Thoughts: I love the board for what I got it for. Super mass storage! But after doing a relook at this boards specs I need to take advantage of the 555 software. It's been a while since I have worked on this computer, reguardless of me wearing the thing out haha, but I do recall some problem that I had with some software because I don't have windows 8. I'm praying it's not the 555 software I couldn't get to work, I do know the remote access does not work without windows 8. So I will look back into it. But other then that, I love this board and have not had any problems. Really nice paired up with Cooler Master N400. That case is cheap and can hold a lot of ssd/hdd

5 out of 5 eggsSeems to be a feature-packed Haswell motherboard for a good price.

Pros: Been running this for a little over a month now and so far I am quite pleased.

Specs as follows:
Core i7 4770K (oc to 4.3 GHz)
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL10Q-32GBXL
1x SATAIII Blu-ray Burner
SLI GTX 780s
PCI-Express HDMI capture card

It has been a stable performer since I got compatible RAM. The BIOS is feature packed with color and mouse support. It even has sound! (which I actually dislike).

It comes with a nice overclocking utility called "F-Stream" which I like better than Intel's software. You can press one button and it will automatically find the most stable overclock you can get @ 1.2v. Perfect for the lazy overclocker. In my case my chip can comfortably go to 4.3 GHz @ 1.2v before it gets unstable. It also has a variety of preset "easy overclock" options you can select in the BIOS which seem tuned to meet most 4770K's abilities.

I chose this board over its competitors because it seemed to deliver by far the most features. It has dual LAN, but not that Killer LAN gimmick; it has four extra SATA ports than most Z87 motherboards, and a wonderful built-in sound chip solution from Creative that is almost as good as having a separate sound card, AND it's $10 cheaper than the Z87 Killer which lacks all of these extra features. I don't know why anyone would go with that board over this one but it seems that more people do for some reason. There is a noticeable improvement with the Core3D chip over the built-in Realtek chip that was on my last motherboard and the software it comes with allows you to do a variety of things to alter your audio in ways that Realtek's solutions do not provide.

Cons: Make sure you buy pre-approved RAM as listed as being compatible on ASRock's website. I have some older G.SKILL 1600 DDR3 RAM which causes this motherboard to throw a fit and not boot.

ASRock's website is so slow for downloading drivers. Make sure you download them in advance of getting this motherboard in or you're going to have an assembled PC and be waiting for hours for all your necessary drivers to finish downloading. I've never gotten download speeds higher than 50 KB/sec from ASRock.

That HDMI input built into this motherboard is quite useless. It only passes through HDMI from it into the motherboard's built-in HDMI output port so it only works if you are using the Intel integrated GPU on Haswells. I don't know why you would buy a motherboard like this and not have a discrete GPU.

The PCI-e 3.0 ports run at x8/x8 instead of x16/x16 when two GPUs are installed. However when full PCI-e 3.0 x16/x16 bandwidth becomes necessary for GPUs to take advantage of their full power this motherboard will likely be long obsolete.

None of these complaints are sufficient enough for me to deduct and egg from my rating because I still feel this motherboard offers far more functionality than you will find in any other Z87 motherboard at this price. I was looking at $300 Z87 motherboards from ASRock's competitors and their features were still mediocre in comparison to what this board does.

4 out of 5 eggsFollow Up Review

Pros: My system has been running stable for 3 months. I am running the i7 4770k @4.4Ghz using 1.2V and temps max at 80C using Prime95! I am using a Noctua NH-D14 cooler. I think I can push my CPU higher but I don't want to kill it.

Cons: The only downside is that the Game Blaster driver is very unstable. Hey ASRock, can you please PRESSURE Creative to make better drivers and software! Realtek makes more stable drivers than them and we are paying premium to get their sound chips! The SB control panel keeps on crashing when I change settings! I don't know why Creative can't ever get their drivers and software right!

5 out of 5 eggsSo far, it's a great motherboard!

Pros: This motherboard has been very solid so far. It comes packed full of features, has an excellent UEFI BIOS. I have not had an audio issues so far with Windows 8.1 x64. The audio sounds great and works great. So far it has been everything I expected and I am very happy with the purchase.

Cons: The only Con I have so far is that when I tried to update the BIOS through the network option in the BIOS it would just hang during the update process. I used a flash drive and the built in utility instead and this worked without issue.

Other Thoughts: I have not messed with the OC potential of this board yet.

1 out of 5 eggsSound Chip Not Found!

Pros: I tested 9 of the 10 SATA ports very briefly and they seem to work.

I tested the USB 2.0 and 3.0 port header that links to the front of my Fractal Design Define R4 case and they seem to work ok.

The Core i5 Haswell CPU that my caregiver installed for me seems to work ok and my system idles around 44 watts once all my mechanical drives turn off. Though at one point it went down to 33 watts... donno how that happened because I disabled all the sleep states in the bios.

The Dr. Debug LED BIOS error readout is very nice and friendly! When my caregiver plugged in the ram stick a bit wrong it very helpfully made it clear what the problem was.

At least one of the Ethernet ports seems to work. I'm sorry but the cons stressed me out so much I got really sick and just layed in bed for a few days so I never got around to testing the other Ethernet port, sorry.

Cons: The official driver from the official site says it can't find any compatible audio devices!

This just completely ruins my whole computer. I bought $2000.00 of parts from NewEgg and now my computer is worthless because it makes no sound.

My 7.1 surround sound does not work because the sound chip does nothing. My caregiver says "Yer soundchip is broken dude."

My HDMI Audio Out does not work because the sound chip appears to not exist.

My optical audio out jack with my brand new optical audio cable does not work because the superduper fancy Creative sound chip is not detected.

I can't watch movies on this puter because there is no audio at all. :(

I can't listen to music on this machine. A computer without music is a computer with no soul. An empty void. Its dead, Jim.

I can't write code on this computer because all my code plays soundfx and muzax, which I can't hear because the creative sound chip on the motherboard is somehow not detected by the driver.

Other Thoughts: This could maybe be used as a NAS by someone. But I simply don't need a NAS right at this exact moment. I was aiming for such a thing maybe next year. Right now I need sound.

I am sorry to have to write this negative review now. I wanted to wait for a few months and see if I could haxx0rize it into working. But my 30 day return Iron Egg policy (or whatever it is called, I have never returned anything in my whole entire life) is about to expire so I am feeling desparate and under time pressure.

I am severely disabled. So when I got all my new puter parts before xmas they all just sat here doing nothing while I waited and waited and waited for someone to come over and put it all together for me.

Well they came and started to put things together but immediately stopped because I had bought the wrong power supply. It said ATX Gold powersupply so I had quickly thrown it in the cart not thinking about the form factor.

Ok so I had to very carefully pick out a new powersupply in super sloooooooow motion because of my idiot disability. I got the ULTIMATE powersupply of all time, the Seasonic 400 Watt Fanless 80+ Platinum. Then I had to wait and wait and wait and wait for someone to come and put it all together.

Ok so after a 14 hour session of unbuilding the old puter and building up the new one we got W7 installed and the internet more or less working but then the sound chip thing stopped us dead.

In my opinion as a coder I think there is a bug in the BIOS such that when we disabled something in the bios it secretly turned off the sound chip. Like maybe disabling all those C states, or maybe it was caused by undervolting the RAM to 1.35v or whatever.

That would explain why there are other reviews of ppl saying "my sound chip didn't work at all but then it just magically started working and I donno how that happened."

So if someone could please please please tell me the secret trick to getting it working I would be very very very grateful and can update this review.

I simply don't have my hardcore debugging skillz anymore due to my illness. I need a helping hand. Thanx a Terabyte.
