1 out of 5 eggsBig Disappointment

Pros: I got this board as Christmas gift, and being busy, waited until I had sometime to devote to a new build. I finally got around to the build and after making all the connections, when I powered it up...nothing. I removed all the peripherals and still nothing. Finally, I unplugged the 8pin ATX connector, powered it up and very briefly, the light came on, the fan came on and stopped. I pressed the power button again with the same results. The power supply was tested and is working fine. Bad board???????????

Cons: Everything, since it never worked.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please trouble shoot the mainboard whether the issue is resolved.
Remove the mainboard from chassis, place it on mainboard’s box
Clear the CMOS.
Reinstall the CPU and heatsink fan
Connect 24 pins + 8 or 4 pins ATX power
Connect chassis power switch to mainboard
Turn the power on to check fully power on.
Populate the components one by one if its get the power.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat board but died fast

Pros: Very inexpensive board for all the features, very simplified and easy to understand BIOS. The layout works well for cable management, and none of the SATA plugs are under where a graphics card would go (this has actually been a problem for me with other boards).

Cons: Memory channel A, slot 1 died suddenly on me after 8 months of working perfectly. I didn't overclock or mess with the memory in any way, the slot just went bad. ASRock quoted me 2 weeks to repair, with a week shipping to them and a week back. I was pretty much forced to buy a new board since I didn't want to wait a month before I could use my computer again.

Other Thoughts: I liked the board, the other reviews were decent, and the price was low enough that I decided to replace my defective board with the same thing. We'll see how long the new one lasts. If it ends up with the same problem I will go out of my way to make sure people don't buy ASRock products.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Kyle,

Sorry to hear that the mainboard's memory channel A has malfunctioned after 8 months which’s due to nature of electronic product, it can happen.
Hopefully, current mainboard works for you flawlessly.

3 out of 5 eggsBe Careful with Sata ll SSD

Pros: The board seems to operate everything great when it works. The Bios is easy to comprehend and well laid out. Easy to install and build.. I was thrown off by the cpu port though I imagine they are all probably done this way nowadays. It's been a few years since my last build.

Cons: Cons: I had and old G.Skill Pheonix Evo 115GB SSD lying around that I decided to use in this build. Unfortunately, the bios only decides to recognize it every once in a while. Which is troublesome since I've installed Win7 on it and use it as my boot device. I have AHCI set and I also found that setting up my SSD as an external (therefore dropping it back to Sata ll which is actually is) has helped a bit. It's recognized more often that way yet still not every time.

Other Thoughts: I really don't know if this is an issue with my SSD or the Mobo. I have to assume that the board not recognizing it's sata connections must be a board issue. It only happens 25% of the time now so it's not the end of the world I suppose. Everything else about this board is great!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
This issue is related to the compatibility between Intel 8 series chipset and SandForce older controller.
Please test SSD with newer controller to check if the symptom still occurs.

4 out of 5 eggs24-pin ATX connector problems

Pros: It's an attractive entry-level gaming board.

Cons: The 24-pin ATX connector's attachment striker is over-sized and does NOT allow for the proper connection of the following power supplies:
Thermaltake TP-500 - Corsair CX430 - Kentec 400w
The retaining latch does NOT correctly fit ANY power supply I tried. The Corsair worked ONLY after the latch broke off, so I'm lucky this is my personal computer and not a commission build! Incidentally, I had no such problem with the retaining clip for the 8-pin CPU power connector. Doesn't anybody check these things?
ASRock's tech support suggested wiggling the connector... they don't realize I have built SEVERAL computers, and I think they're condescending and a little naive.

Other Thoughts: This is probably a good board for the price.... but the 'high-efficiency' ATX connector is exasperating! I think that my 4-star rating is generous.
I suppose they sourced cheap connectors to keep the price of the board down.
The reviews I have read about Asus and Gigabyte boards suggests that they are no better.

4 out of 5 eggsLooks great and it works

Pros: This appears to be a good -looking entry-level gaming board., and a good deal when on sale.

Cons: The 24-pin ATX connector and the PS/2 keyboard connector

Other Thoughts: I would rather have cheaply-sourced connectors than cheaply-sourced chipsets. Time will tell if this is a great board for the money. If you want dual-cards and overclocking, you want to spend more.

1 out of 5 eggsCorsair power supply incompatible?!

Pros: Looks great!

Cons: 24-pin connector doesn't fit a Corsair CX430 power supply, and it's extra-wide catch BROKE the clip on my power supply's connector. ASRock tech support apparently thinks I'm twelve years old... they're useless.
I suppose Corsair is some 'off-brand' so it shouldn't fit?!

Other Thoughts: I no have an expensive pile of parts sitting on my desk with no power.
I am disappoint...

Manufacturer Response:

Dear zyrgle,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
The ATX power connector on mainboard meets or exceed industry standard.
Please check the PSU connector has fully installed to mainboard.
Check both maibnaord and PSU connector socket (24 counts) are straight.

4 out of 5 eggs3 Monitors Selling Point but Also a Negative

Pros: Three Monitors. Quality motherboard and no problems getting items hooked up or working. Documentation is good.

Cons: To run three monitors one has to split it out between, HDMI, DVI and VGA - DSub. I erroneously (when purchasing it) believed that the 2 HDMI ports could be used. Frankly the second HDMI port (not the one next to the DVI port but the farther one is a HDMI *in* port) is simply a point of confusion.

That port (the HDMI in) I believe is why others have erroneously said that HDMI doesn't work on this motherboard; because they plug in a monitor expecting HDMI out when it is (unbeknownst) to them a HDMI in port.

IMHO HDMI in is a waste of a port. I would rather they create a motherboard with three HDMI out ports and not even have HDMI out nor VGA.

Other Thoughts: Had one monitor, a new dell off of the HDMI out and it would stop working when the monitor would go to sleep. I could hear the motherboard 'ding' that it lost a connection and almost immediately `ding` that it found a connection. After it finally went to sleep, 7 out of ten times the motherboard would never recognize the monitor and I would have to cycle on/off/restart/start to get it to `re`-recognize the monitor. Finally I put in a different Dell monitor. I am unsure if it is the motherboard or the monitor (or both) which caused the problem.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

Thank you for your purchase and review.

1 out of 5 eggspoor workmanship

Pros: Good looking board??

Cons: HDMI never worked, no matter the settings,
SAT0 never worked with any drive or peripheral
SATA4 was hit or miss, would drop
Other SATA started to drop from time to time
USB's would be inoperable until Windows started, would change the settings in UEFI and they would work for a while and then revert back. This was an issue because of the issues mentioned above.Windowns would not load or boot to a screnn the USB keyboard would work on "i.e. configuration chaged (dropped SATA) and Windows would attempt to start in "Safe" or other mode, but without the use of the keyboard I could not choose...so stuck in the cycle...frustrating to say the least...all to save a few bucks from an ASUS...well now time to shoot this one and go back to ASUS.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
For the HDMI, please check the cable is plugged to HDMI out port, refers to user manual under page 12 " ftp://66.226.78.21/manual/Fatal1ty%20H87%20Performance.pdf " .
Check the monitor has set to HDMI output.
For the SATA, please plug and unplug the cable several times to assure better contact with the SATA port.
Test with another known good SATA cable and drive if problem still persist.
Download and update the latest BIOS at link " http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Fatal1ty%20H87%20Performance/?cat=Download&os=BIOS " .
As always, we appreciate your purchase. Honest and constructive reviews are welcome.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board

Pros: This is a great board. No problems with setup, bios are great. Not for you overclocking guru's but I bought this as a setup for a machine for my wife. Nice colors, solid build. This is a great bang for your buck motherboard.

Cons: Not impressed with the audio as they advertise but it is whats expected from motherboard audio.

Other Thoughts: Still deserves 5 eggs.
