5 out of 5 eggsSolid little board after 8 Months

Pros: Solid board, no problems

Cons: None really, maybe the PCI-Express location could be a bit better is all.

Other Thoughts: These are electronics, ASRock and Asus have been my go to boards for some time, and rarely do I have any issues.

1 out of 5 eggsSame Memory Problem as others

Pros: None that I can think of

Cons: I had the same problem as others reviewing this MB
I had the message come up that said "The following Channel did not pass CPU memory Test. Please remove the memory then plug again Channel A." After changing to different slots and trying different memory modules, the board would not even boot up.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Clear the CMOS.
Reseat the CPU and heatsink fan
Test with single memory module on each slot one by one.
Populate the memory if all slots are working normally.
If you have any technical issues please contact us at http://www.ASRock.com/support/tsd.asp. We will assist you shortly.

Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsDecent Micro Mobo

Pros: I liked the design and layout of the motherboard. For the most part, easy to hook up.

Cons: Could have used 1 more USB 3.0 header in exchange for one of the USB 2.0 headers...not a big deal.

Other Thoughts: The graphics card I bought covers one of the PCI slots rendering the PCI slot unusable. Probably my fault for building a gaming computer with a Micro ATX form factor.

Some of the supporting documentation and software is written by someone who does not speak english as a first language. Again, not a big deal, but it does make you wonder just a bit about the quality.

Couldn't get the manufacturer's Intel Management Engine driver to install. (Running Win7 64) Doesn't seem to matter.

4 out of 5 eggsGood basic board

Pros: It is functional and has a nice assortment of ports

Cons: It could be an audio driver bug, but it is impossible to get sound to output from the back and the front headphone port simultaneously. Still, I only need one or the other, so it isn't a problem for me, but it could be for others.

2 out of 5 eggsRe: "Half of memory slots not working"

Pros: N/A

Cons: I'm going to report what happened after I posted my last review "Half of memory slots not working".

I have tried everything as the so called "ASRock support" said, but obviously no luck. So I contacted their custom service by email and see what advices they can offer. I got the reply said that I may have a defective processor from Intel. (Are you sure?)

To confirm their reply, I brought the computer to a nearby computer repair store and let them have an inspection for me. And I was told that quite surely it's a defective mobo.

And now I just realize I'm not alone as Revolver Bunker has a defect mobo with the same problem as me. And there's even another DOA below that.

I brought an ASRock mobo 2 years ago on AMD platform and that was a DOA either. Returned that and got a Biostar, sweet.

Now...... Not again!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
ASRock mainboards are fully tested to assure that they're working before shipped. Unfortunately, due to nature of electronic product, it can happen.
As always, we appreciate your purchase and constructive reviews are welcome.

Thank you

2 out of 5 eggsNon-functional Channel A Memory

Pros: Power connectors, switch plugs and USB connectors are spaced well as to not cause crowding of cabling.

Cons: PCIe 3.0 slot is a bit close to the RAM slots. Larger video cards sit right below the RAM slots with only about 1mm-2mm clearance. No clearance when you have the RAM locks open.
Was getting the same error as another review. Both Channel A_1 and A_2 on the board would not read RAM slotted in. Channel B_1 and B_2 would read RAM without any issue. Board would report a memory error on BIOS boot with Channel A and ask to be reseated. Tried the options suggested by the company in the other review but that did not solve the memory issue at all. Updating firmware and reseating connectors did not resolve the issue. Issue appears to be that the Channel A slots can not read the RAM slotted in.

Other Thoughts: The rest of the board works but not being able to dual channel memory is a factor. RMA'd the board back for a replacement. Hoping the next one will work without issue.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please turn the power off, clear the CMOS.
Remove CPU to check mainboard's CPU contact pins are normal.
Reseat the CPU and cooler, if the pins are normal.
Reseat the single memory module on A1 slot firmly to check if its resolved.

1 out of 5 eggsDead on Arrival

Pros: None

Cons: Dead on arrival and due to receiving it as a gift for Christmas, too much time has passed to get a refund from Newegg. Asrock was similarly unhelpful and refused to replace it without a $50 dollar fee due to two bent pins on the board that were present when the box was opened and likely are the reason that the board is DOA. In short, a complete waste of money.

Other Thoughts: Intel B85 motherboards are great, just make sure to buy one from a company that isn't asrock.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. ASRock mainboards are fully tested to assure that they're working before shipped.
The CPU socket on the mainboard has been covered with protection CAP to avoid damage the pins during shipping.
In addition, the CPU socket pins on the mainboard are fragile and need to be handling with careful to avoid physical damage and affect the warranty.
If you have any technical issues or warranty questions please contact our Tech Support at http://www.ASRock.com/support/tsd.asp. We can assist you shortly.

5 out of 5 eggsBought two...actually three

Pros: Very easy board to install (but see con). Had just built a computer with a mini-itx so this board seemed huge. Have yet to put the board thru its paces having only just built the computer

Cons: On the down side, on one of the boards I used, the connector to the front USB ports broke including the pins. The cable from the case (cosair 350B) was a huge thing and the connect was relatively flimsy plastic so while installing, the cable must have been pulled and broke the connector. It was purely my fault and perhaps the cable from the case was too big, but no bad marks against the case.

2 out of 5 eggsHalf of memory slots not working

Pros: Have an i7 4770 on it.
UEFI BIOS is nice.
Multiple monitor output works with my GT640, 3 DVI output combined to power my 3 monitors.

Cons: I got this message if I plug memory into the 2 slots near the processor (thus A1 and A2).

The following Channel did not pass CPU memory Test. Please remove the memory then plug again Channel A.

Plugging in the rear 2 slots (B1, B2), it works correctly.

Have tried with 4 different memory and never got them working on the first 2 slots. Reseated the CPU. Adjusted the voltage. Swapped back and forth. I doubt it's a common problem on asrock mb?

Other Thoughts: Basically it's good, but... how about more working memory slot?

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please clear the CMOS.
Reseat the CPU and fan.
Download and update the latest BIOS at link http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/B85M%20Pro4/?cat=Download&os=BIOS

4 out of 5 eggsDoes the Job

Pros: Is ok, has all the necessary tech for my existing hardware! Front USB III header and 6 sata ports, pci-x 3, sata III.

A_1 and B_1 for dual channel. XMP is cool. Autoset mine to 1T settings @ 1600 that runs great.

Board has 5 or 6 fan headers. Two 4-pin ones.

Cons: Intel's Small Business Technology.... egg off for that. Wish I had known more about it before purchasing intel at all. The risk is large.

The amount of insecurity possible with this "technology" is frightening. And it can't be turned off..

Other Thoughts: Am not sure how linux will behave or if it'll even work due to Intel SBT....
