ASRock’s new OC Formula mATX motherboards have the classic OC Formula Power Kits, Connector Kits and Cooling Kits. In addition, a collection of lifestyle based features called A-Style will be implemented on the OC Formula Series motherboards. These features include Purity Sound™, which is powered by Realtek’s ALC1150 audio codec and supports 115dB SNR DAC, and two TI® 5532 amplifiers, one a Differential Amplifier and the other one a Premium Headset Amplifier that supports up to 600 ohm headphones. And there’s also cap-less Direct Drive technology, EMI shielding cover, PCB isolate shielding and support for DTS Connect, HDMI-In for instant monitor swapping between the computer and secondary devices, and Home Cloud for remotely waking and controlling computers!

  • newegg XFast 555 Technology Exclusive ASRock XFast 555 technology — including XFast RAM, XFast LAN and XFast USB — optimizes your user experience with unprecedented fast response and low latency. XFast RAM creates a virtual disk from the system memory to boost the performance. For Photoshop, it can even perform five times faster than before. ASRock XFast LAN is a smart productivity tool to help you manage your internet applications, simplify your digital life, and accomplish more. XFast USB technology boosts up the USB transfer to a new level, enabling more data to be transferred in less time.
  • newegg ASRock OMG (Online Management Guard) Fast, Easy and Free – ASRock OMG technology lets you establish an Internet curfew, or restrict Internet access at specified times. Administrators are able to schedule the starting and ending hours of Internet access granted to other users. Normally, ISPs (Internet Service Providers) will charge for such an Internet curfew service. The service controls “all” the PCs connected at home through network remotely, but all the PCs in that network will be restricted to access the Internet at pre-setup times. However, ASRock OMG is a free tool for controlling the online access of each single PC. Parents can easily prevent their kids from going online at inappropriate times, while enjoying their own unrestricted access.
  • newegg Purity Sound Purity Sound is a combination of several hardware and software audio technologies that will satisfy even the pickiest audiophile. It includes 7.1 CH HD audio with Realtek ALC1150 audio codec, 115dB SNR DAC with Differential Amplifier, TI 5532 Premium Headset Amplifier (which supports up to 600 ohm headphones), cap-less Direct Drive technology, EMI shielding cover, PCB isolate shielding, and support for DTS Connect. Unlike traditional onboard audio solutions that use single-sided output and capacitors, Purity Sound uses a differential codec for differential output. The signals go through a TI NE5532 differential amplifier with Direct Drive technology, thus providing Purity Sound!
  • newegg HDMI-In Tired of constantly switching devices to connect to your one monitor? From now on just connect the monitor to your motherboard, and connect your secondary device to the motherboard's HDMI-In port. With HDMI-In, users may conveniently toggle between the computer's screen and the secondary device's screen with a hotkey, or even use their secondary device without powering on the computer.
  • newegg Waterproof by Conformal Coating Conductive liquids — such as water — pretty much destroy all kinds of electronics on contact. That's why ASRock has implemented a special layer of Conformal Coating on their motherboards. It makes the motherboards invulnerable to conductive liquids, corrosion and dust. Users won't have to worry about spilling liquid nitrogen, liquid helium, or even clam chowder on their motherboards while overclocking.
  • newegg Home Cloud Connect with your home or office PC from anywhere in the world using Home Cloud. You will be able to power your PC, turn it off, and take control of it remotely with another smartphone, tablet or computer.

5 out of 5 eggsPRO Motherboard!

Pros: -Built from quality parts
-Amazing on-board sound with PCB separation ALC1150
-Hi-Density Power Connector
-15u gold within the sockets and slots (boosts performance)
-8-Layer PCB with copper
-Fast, no non-sense BIOS, POST, mATX form factor
-10/10 hands down great audio
-Overall excellent mobo, you get what you pay for and some.

Cons: -Doesn't come with the parts to setup the on-board wifi, you have to get those yourself, which could be hard to find antennas to fit the mobo slots, would have to research
-Price, a bit steep but you really get what you pay for so can't complain too much
-It will make your wife or girlfriend jealous and hate you/leave you.

Other Thoughts: At first when I was looking to upgrade my rig with a new mobo/cpu etc, I looked at other brands like ASUS, which don't get me wrong make quality boards, but this ASRock board has such greater quality... especially if you want to invest on great on-board sound that will last. My last mobo was an ASUS and the on-board sound died after about a week, this motherboard probably won't have that problem, it has such protection for the sound components. Also, this is my first ASRock product and I'm happy with it. Don't let other reviews stray you from buying this motherboard, it is really nice, and usually people do things wrong which result in their problems. Me personally I won't overclock unless I have to, but it's great to know I got a sturdy mobo in case I do want to OC.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat, except when it wasnt'

Pros: All hardware that was recognized, was recognized immediately. Bios easy to navigate. Excellent setup and navigation. Good arrangement of slots and sockets, labels on all jumpers, etc. make setup easy if you read the manual - which is detailed and excellent. Had all the parts needed for full install and setup.

Cons: Dead ethernet port - bios didn't even recognize it. Obvious QA issue - do they test all the motherboards before shipping? Apparently not.

Other Thoughts: I am using this board for an i5 Hasewell-based Linux server. The board came with everything I needed, was well packed, and recognized all 32GB RAM immediately (contrary to another reviewers experience, where s/he had to flash bios first). Ethernet port lit up, but bios did not recognize it and neither did my brand spanking new Debian install disk. I am not returning it - not worth the bother - so I'm spending the $ on a PCI Ethernet card.
Apparently this board is good for overclockers (tons of options in the bios) but I cannot speak to that as I am building for energy efficiency and data processing, not pushing pixels in an FPS. :)
Would be five stars but for screwing up something as simple as an Ethernet port with poor QA.

3 out of 5 eggsSolid Board - Bad Luck

Pros: - Great Construction
- Solid Board
- Awesome Overclockability
- Beautiful Yellow/Gold color

Cons: I first received my board and plugged in all 4 ram sticks to boot to bios for the first time. I first received a Dr. Debug error for SATA devices. My only SATA device was my 256 Samsung Evo Pro 256g SSD, so I unplugged it. Next I received a RAM error, so I removed all 4 sticks of my HyperX and placed only one stick, testing each slot as I went. It only worked in A2 on first post. Once I got past the RAM error I received an Error 99 (PCI/PCI-E device). However I had nothing plugged in. Onboard video would not work. I cleared cmos, I did everything I could think of. I then found a spare graphics card I had laying around and popped that sucker in. Voila. It posted, no errors. WHAT? So while I was in I flashed the BIOS to the latest version, set up boot priorities, etc., etc. I had contacted AsRock support on Day 1 and they finally got back to me today saying if Onboard video doesn't work, it's a bad board. So, I removed the graphics card and tested onboard again since I had the chance to flash the bios. Well, still not working. Seemed like a solid board, just bad luck on the first go-around. Hopefully Newegg will RMA me a new board and I can come back and update this with me being as happy as I can be.

Other Thoughts: Solid board, just bad experience so far. Will give another star if my next board received actually works properly.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsHMDI Out not working?

Pros: Form Factor -- uATX

Cons: Weird HDMI in
Only 1 display port and 1 HDMI out

1 HDMI out does not seem to be working

Other Thoughts: 1st one was DOA (thanks newegg for fast replacement)

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsGreat board, very satisfied.

Pros: * Tons of functionality
* Excellent suite of features for a mATX board
* Looks great
* Well designed placement of connectors
* Amazing BIOS (Really, it's just wonderful)
* Extremely easy to tune overclocking
* Phenomenal sound quality
* Excellent I/O features
* Switchable BIOS feature is nifty

Cons: Memory slots: For whatever reason, this board was designed with DDR slots that only have one locking tab. One side pushes in, the other has the conventional tab lock. This was mildy frustrating. Installing memory modules feels awkward, and I feared damaging the motherboard in the process

PWM fans connections: This motherboard has about an equal number of 3- and 4-pin fan connectors. I'd have really enjoyed it if all fan connections had PWM pins, With such excellent fan control software, why not enable PWM across the board?

Other Thoughts: I'm absolutely infatuated with this motherboard. It's the nicest I've ever used. I was debating between this board and the Asus Maximus Gene, and have no regrets whatsoever.

With only a few small annoyances, I enjoy this board a great deal. ASRocks on-the-fly Windows-based overclocking software works very well indeed, and it's great to be able to apply different OC curves while monitoring performance and temperature in real-time.

Note regarding failure to POST: This is a revised review. I had left a review stating that this board failed to POST with memory installed in banks A1 and A2. After booting to BIOS with one stick of memory installed and flashing to the newest BIOS (you can do this from BIOS via USB media, very easy and straightforward) everything worked fine.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

Thank you for your purchase and review. The single memory clips/locks are designed to be one side and the other sides would be locked once memory are installed.
However, its special designs to avoid conflict with larger discrete VGA card.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat price on a great motherboard!

Pros: - SLI and Crossfire capable
- x4 PCI-E slot is open for an x16 card in support of Crossfire setups and better airflow
- Easy OC'ing of Haswell Chips
- 4 slots for RAM
- mSATA and mini-PCIE slots
- Plenty of USB ports, headers, even a port on the mobo itself
- Great UEFI support and easy BIOS setup
- Supplied with thermal paste for those OC projects

Cons: - Gimmicky HDMI switching... if you use a discrete card, this is worthless
- Not all fan headers 4 pin
- Windows software can be... tricky at times
- Wireless antenna not included however there are knockouts provided on the I/O Shield

Other Thoughts: I threw this mobo in a BitFenix Prodigy M with a 4770k and 16GB of Corsair Dominator Platinum at 2133.

I was able to achieve an OC of 4.4ghz with a Corsair H90 cooler. This mobo made it very easy to change the major settings from within Windows and the minor ones inside the BIOS.

I like the fact it came with 2 dedicated slots for a wireless card and a mSATA card. My primary SSD is attached to the mobo itself and there are less wires and cables running through my case. There are also no USB dongles hanging off my case with the "integrated" wifi.

Overall it's a great motherboard, however if I were to change a few things, I would put a x16 slot on the end and give the consumer an option to space their cards for better airflow if they want. Include wireless antennas. And get rid of HDMI switching... who uses integrated graphics anyway?

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Motherboard

Pros: What can I say? The OC profiles are AMAZING. Easy one click overclocking, the UEFI BIOS is very easy to use. The board looks amazing! The black and gold color scheme looks so good, with my Corsair RM650 psu they match perfectly. The HDMI passthrough is great for my Xbox 360 when I want to play with some friends.

Cons: Don't really have any cons, but if any, the psu cables are very hard to take out, but not sure if that is mobo or psu cables.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board

Pros: This was one of the most full featured motherboards at the time I purchased it in the matx form factor. I ended up choosing matx over itx for higher ram capacities and additional pci-express slots.

Usb header on the motherboard is nice to keep a livecd to boot into if needed.

Has both mini pci-e and mini pci-e/msata

The onboard audio despite being realtek is quite good and the built in headphone amplifier is a nice feature. (NOTE: headphone amplifier is on front panel audio header only) Also sounds great with my Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro 250ohm's, Best onboard audio I've used yet.

Apparently, although I haven't tested it yet, one of the hdmi ports can be set in the bios to be used as an input.

The Intel I217V LAN works perfect but with windows will not work prior to installing the driver.

I have no need for overclocking so I went with the Intel Xeon E3-1245v3 for VT-d and ecc support. This motherboard however does not support ecc, but that is to be expected.

RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2x8gb) 2400mhz ddr3
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus, Idles @26-30C, Max:51C

Cons: The bios are pretty straight forward but the background graphics can make text a bit hard to read at times.

Other Thoughts: So far I have had absolutely no issues with this motherboard and would highly recommend it.

The Drivers on ASRocks site for both the Realtek ALC1150 Audio and the Intel I217V LAN are not the latest version available. I had a few issues with the older LAN driver, but nothing to prevent it from working.

So far I used this system with Windows 8 & 8.1 (I don't recommend 8.1), and Gentoo running kernel 3.12.4 with root on ZFS with no issues with either operating systems.

5 out of 5 eggsBest matx z87 on the market

Pros: Board construction(8 layer pcb, copper layered, high gold content in cpu/pci slots)very high quality true digital X phase design.
Top notch on board sound(Sound card NOT required).
High quality caps, chokes etc (CHL8328 PWM chip w/NEXFET mosfets)
Tons of USB 3.0 and Sata 3 ports
HDMI IN port
Plenty of fan headers
Great software

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Thinking about an Asus ROG board, but don't want to pay the price? Seriously consider this board. IMO this Matx board is the best z87 micro ATX board currently on the market. Fantastic on board sound rivaling high quality dedicated sound cards, in many ways besting them including a very low noise floor. Audiophiles with a high quality set of headphones will really be impressed with the clarity and punch of this audio solution. Tons of fan headers and I/O ports, the quality and quantity of items packed onto this board is impressive overall. Make sure you update the BIOS when received and be rewarded with a fantastic foundation for your performance rig.

2 out of 5 eggsDied in a month

Pros: Worked well for a while, I'm sure not all of them fail.

Cons: I contacted ASRock about an LED that remained on and they never responded. Also the board stopped powering on after about a month. First it had trouble powering on and I had to use the internal power button, the next day I could just not get it to power on at all.

Other Thoughts: I have been pretty unsatisfied with ASRock's customer service because of them not responding to me the first time. I have since contacted them about this but am still awaiting a response. Also believe me when I say that I have tried everything to turn this motherboard on: different PSU, disconnecting everything, switching BIOS's, removing the CMOS battery, using different memory, but it won't even start turning the fans.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
For the power on issue, please also check chassis power switch is working normally.
Trouble shoot the mainboard if its resolved;
Unplug the ATX power.
Remove the mainboard from chassis, place the mainboard on mainboard’s box
Remove all components.
Clear the CMOS
Reseat the CPU and heatsink fan as well
Plug the 24 pins + 8 or 4 pins ATX power
Turn the power on (using onboard power button).
Populate the components one by one if its get the power.
