4 out of 5 eggsASRock C216 WS

Pros: Everything works like it is supposed to.

Cons: For a server board I found it kind of odd that ASRock didn't provide Linux drivers. They are all available just took some time to hunt some of them down.

3 out of 5 eggsNo TPM

Pros: Nice C216 MB

Cons: Website lists TPM header but there isn't one on the MB, I had to return mine

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Unfortunately, C216 WS does not come with TPM header but C226 WS as well.
To compare, please visit mainboard C216 WS specification link " WS "

As always, we appreciate your purchase. Honest and constructive reviews are welcome.

Thank you

4 out of 5 eggsRE: Good mobo, some issues UPDATE!!

Other Thoughts: The motherboard WORKS with UNBUFFERED memory, NOT with registered! I switched the two around in my other review! Sorry for the confusion!!

4 out of 5 eggsGood mobo, some issues

Pros: * Lots of SATA3
* Lots of PCI-E

Cons: * Memory compatibility

Other Thoughts: Got this motherboard to use for a media server with software RAID, so I can't speak to the built-in hardware RAID options. Onboard SATA (only using the SATA3) has been steady. If you're running this as a headless box with sporadic video needs, be aware that the only onboard video is HDMI, and that is only accessible if the CPU has graphics options (for current-gen Xeons, models ending in a 5, ex. E3-1235).

The memory has been a real issue. The Asrock product page has no supported memory list. I tried two different kinds of unbuffered ECC memory (1066 and 1600) - the system would fail to post, and gave a status code in the 50s. I contacted Asrock customer support by email to resolve the issue - they're awesome, the person I spoke with was prompt, frank and helpful almost to a fault. He told me he didn't have a C216 WS on hand to test with, which led me to believe that they may have had issues with this model and may be discontinuing it. He also said that the motherboard doesn't perform well/will rarely work with unbuffered memory, which is not mentioned anywhere in the literature that I've found. But because I like this motherboard I bought some buffered ECC memory, pooped it in, and she's been stable ever since.

4 out of 5 eggsVersatile motherboard

Pros: Supports Intel SRT SSD caching which is pretty great. Tons of SATA ports for lots of hard drives. The bios gives you a lot of control.

Cons: It would have been nice to have a on board vga / dvi port rather than just a HDMI ... but hey you have a plethora of pci ports you can plugin a card into so not a big deal. Check your CPU specs if your planning on running a ECC ram. Just because it's a Xeon doesn't mean it's supported.

Other Thoughts: On board raid allow for the 4 SATAII port to be RAIDed 0,1,5,10 for file storage. The SATA3 is real meant to be used as the OS RAID/ Intel SRT with a SSD i believe. You could probably RAID the 2 (raidable) SATA3 port and SATAII ports together but I'm not sure why you would want to unless you like really big partitions that run at SATAII speeds. I built this with a i5 3570k processor and non EEC ram with no issues. It's seems real set up to server as a home server for and entertainment system but can work well for other uses.

4 out of 5 eggsGood board, needs VGA

Pros: Good board, nice specs. Looks like they did a good job on it and it's running well as a firewall/router with OpenBSD.

Cons: No VGA? Admittedly, I should have noticed that before buying, but I had to take an egg off for it. All server boards have VGA on them. My KVM doesn't support HDMI so I had to get an adapter.
