3 out of 5 eggsFun with Driver Conflicts (sarcasm)

Pros: - Cheap
- Average Mobo
- Plenty of USB ports and HDMI

Cons: - Driver CD automated install on Windows 7 will install incompatible drivers
- Difficult to get compatible drivers for all devices in Windows 7
- Must disable legacy USB support in UEFI to get OS stable when running Windows 7

Other Thoughts: This is a basic motherboard with decent features. I had a lot of trouble getting drivers installed without causing conflicts, and I finally figured out that the legacy / third-party USB support enabled by default in UEFI can cause random freezing in Windows 7. I initially used the auto-install, but this installed an incompatible video driver that would cause crashes and freezing. Even a third-party Intel video driver scrubber couldn't get rid of it.

Overall it's not bad once you get driver conflicts sorted out. Just avoid the auto-install on the driver CD on Windows 7. Ultimately, I reinstalled the OS after my initial build, and the I installed only the NIC driver from the CD - then downloaded the rest from the site to ensure I had the latest and most compatible.

If you buy this and want to install Windows 7 on it:

1. Disable legacy and third party USB support in UEFI
2. Install OS
3. Install NIC driver ONLY from CD
4. Download the rest of the missing drivers from ASRock's website

3 out of 5 eggsGood but lacking

Pros: Solid build. Good connectors. Haven't had any issues with USB 3.0 which can be a nightmare on some boards.

Cons: Does not have PCI Express 3.0 but supports latest Intel Haswell architecture. This is very tricky and in a quick debate on price with another board I ended up with this board without catching that. While gaming @1080p the difference is probably very minor but if you are going to get a high end GPU and game at very high resolutions that will cost you FPS for sure due to bandwidth limitations. Unacceptable for Intel not to require PCI Express 3.0 on this chipset.

Other Thoughts: The software is pretty weak. I used A-Tuning but its just another software process that doesn't need to run when you can control everything in the BIOS. A lot more boards in this price range have more features.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

Thank you for your purchase and review.
Due to Intel H81 chipset limitation, PCI Express only available at 2.0.

4 out of 5 eggsSo far so good!

Pros: Your average motherboard at a very reasonable price.

-Like the bios, lots of options for such a cheap board.
-Love all the case fan jacks on the board.
-2x USB3.0 for front panel is key!

Cons: Nothing major.

-Cannot get ram to run @ 1600, however it is not listed on their approved list so my fault for not checking. Otherwise working fine. (TLD38G1600HC9DC01)

I have emailed AsRock about the ram, I will update if they reply.

Other Thoughts: Due to my case configuration, the 3.5'' hard drive mounts directly over the main power plug, making it difficult to route the wiring, but this really isn't the fault of the motherboard per say.

Case - Rosewill LINE-M Micro-ATX
Processor - Intel Pentium G3220 Haswell
Memory - Team Vulcan 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600
Audio Card - ASUS Xonar DG

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsGood board for reasonable price

Pros: Reasonable price, USB 3 support with header for front ports built into board. SATA 6 Support, nice software configurations and you can update the BIOS directly from the BIOS without having to boot into the OS, SPDIF support for digital surround on receivers without HDMI. Socket 1150 is new and will likely be around for a long time!

Cons: Only 4 SATA Ports - wish it had 6, No E-Sata Port - but didn't really expect it at this price point.

Other Thoughts: I put this together with 4 gb ram for and a G3220 for a low power HTPC. For a $60 board, this had so many good options available, I was surprised at how good a board it was for the money. Worked great with my RAM and had no issues on the install. The included software is good for overclocking and changing system settings. My home theater receiver on this build does not have HDMI and this board has an SPDIF for DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1 capability. I didn't see it on any other boards at this price point. It would have been nice to have 6 SATA ports, but with the extra PCI slots, you can always add them later.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Haswell Value

Pros: Quality can't be beat at this price point - everything works - yeah :)

Cons: PCI slots are not really necessary any more IMHO

Other Thoughts: Looking for the least costly way to move to USB 3 and SATA 6 lead me to this very attractive Micro ATX motherboard. Other bits are: 3.0GHz Pentium G3220 Haswell, 8GB G.SKILL (F3-14900CL9D-8GBSR), Crucial M4 128GB SSD, and GIGABYTE Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition (GV-R787OC-2GD)
