3 out of 5 eggsUSB Stop working

Pros: Great price

Cons: USB was working initially, but stop working after installing USB driver from the disc included. Already contacted ASRock for tech support and waiting on their response.

Other Thoughts: 3 eggs for now until I got this resolved.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please install fresh Windows again.
Download and install USB 3.0 drivers at link below.
If Windows 8/8.1/10, it does not required the USB drivers.

5 out of 5 eggsMake sure you know the specs!

Pros: Grabbed this with a $20 rebate, making it a very affordable mITX board. It has everything I need and nothing I don't, which I find ideal, but if you have plans to expand your rig or need a lot of internal expansion, this is not the board for you.

Cons: 2 internal SATA hubs, 2 fan hubs (one for CPU fan), no USB3 internal hub. In my case, I only ever plan on having two SATA drives, I got a cheap cable splitter to get motherboard controlled power to my case fans, and I got a cheap USB3 to USB2 adapter so I can get USB2 on my front panel (if you really need the transfer speed, just use the I/O USB3).

Other Thoughts: If you spend some time thinking about your build and checking all of the specs on this board, it can work out great!

4 out of 5 eggsNot Compatible with Hyper 212 EVO

Pros: Inexpensive
Overclocks without needing more expensive Z97 chipset

Cons: Not compatible with the popular Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO HSF. There are some transistors that are placed too close to one of the mounting holes that would get crushed by the backplate.

Other Thoughts: The main draw of this board for me was the overclocking potential. But incompatibility with the popular 212 EVO really reduces that potential.

1 out of 5 eggsWake-on-LAN for Ubuntu Broken

Pros: Good price, reliable, seems like a nice BIOS.

Cons: Wake-on-LAN broken with Ubuntu 14.04 or later.

Other Thoughts: Although the board is Wake-on-LAN capable, as of release 14.04 of Ubuntu the Wake-on-LAN functionality was removed from the drivers supporting the Qualcomm Atheros ethernet drivers needed by this board. And although it's not the fault of ASROCK, I would recommend anyone intending to use this board with Ubuntu AND wanting Wake-on-LAN functionality look for another board that does not use a Qualcomm Aetheros LAN. My understanding of the scope of the problem is limited: I do not know if it affects all Aetheros LANs or only the AR8171, and I also do not know if it affects other LINUX distributions. Other than this, I've had no problems with the board. I owe thanks to ASROCK tech support for correctly identifying the cause of my troubles. But in my case this feature is critical and may force me to replace these boards. (I own three of them.)

Newegg does not allow an explicit link, but if you google "Bug 61651 - [regression] Wake-on-LAN broken in alx (AR8161)" you can find more information.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Unfortunately, mainboard does not provide/support Linux OS drivers, the drivers and function are based on chipset developer.

However, this model supports following OS, Microsoft® Windows® 8.1 32-bit / 8.1 64-bit / 8 32-bit / 8 64-bit / 7 32-bit / 7 64-bit.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little board

Pros: USB 3, eSATA, ITX, Price

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Have purchased about 15 of these over the last 5 months for small office computers. Using 4GB of RAM, Celeron G1850's, and 120GB SSD's running Windows 7. So far no DOA's or failures. Solid little boards for the price.

3 out of 5 eggs1 out of 3 DOA

Pros: Bought 3 boards 1 out of the 3 was DOA. Had to get a RMA from new egg. Don't know if I am buying another.

Cons: Reliability. I don't understand why manufactures don't do a post assembly inspection test. Why because it cost them money to do this so this is what happens. Instead they pull every 100 board made to check.

3 out of 5 eggsKinda weird way of saving costs...

Pros: It is a surprisingly cheap, high quality motherboard
Click bios (my first)
~95% black (will match anything)

Cons: I think it was a weird way to save money, but they did not attach a USB 3.0 header onto the motherboard. the place to solder one on is physically on the board, but the header was not attached to save ~$0.10
There are also spots for 2 more SATA connectors, but have not been attached either, for marginal savings. (~$0.10)

Other Thoughts: I wish it had more options for SATA, and I wish it had USB 3.0
the fact that they did not include these in order to save $0.20 is annoying

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

Thank you for purchase and review.
Due to Intel H81 chipset limitation, it supports 2 x USB 3.0 ports and its already come with mainboard at rear I/O panel.
However, the front USB 3.0 is reserved for other chipset model (H87) mainboard.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid MB

Pros: Everything is as advertised. I had no issues getting everything installed and running.

Cons: None that I've noticed

Other Thoughts: I've been having some issues getting WOL to work correctly. I have not rule out user error, but it could be an issue. Hopefully it's just something confusing in the bios.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat budget board

Pros: Price. Great easy to use bios. Enough features for any standard build.

Cons: This board is set up with an i3 4160 cpu, 4gb muskin ram, evga gtx 750 , western digital 1tb blue hdd, evga 500w psu and a Xigmatek Eris itx case. All told makes for a nice small form factor budget build for gaming and home use. Im running Win8.1 pro with classic shell and all software installed without a hitch. I did not use the included driver cd but opted for getting all the necessary drivers from Asrocks website. Its been running great since first post. I plan on getting another for an htpc build.

5 out of 5 eggsVery good motherboard

Pros: I appreciated the UEFI interface as it makes configuration very easy. The feature I liked most was the ability to shut off the case lights (hdd and power).

This was my first mini-itx build and I am impressed with how a full featured PC can be built on such a small platform.

Cons: None.
