It's based on an AMD A88X (Bolton D4) chipset and supports an FM2+ 95W/FM2 100W processor. This motherboard is built to be stable and durable with premium gold caps, plus a robust 8+2 power phase design. Compute with confidence with the high-density glass-fabric PCB that resists humidity. Turbocharge the performance with unbeatable ease with X-Boost technology. Experience blistering data transfer with the native SATA III and USB 3.0 technology. The acclaimed ASRock XFast RAM, XFast LAN, and XFast USB are also included, for a fast, smooth experience in both local operation and on the Internet.

  • newegg Purity Sound: Bask in the Music Purity Sound is a combination of several hardware and software audio solutions and technologies that will satisfy even the pickiest audiophile. Including 7.1 CH HD audio with Realtek ALC1150 audio codec, a 115dB SNR DAC with Differential Amplifier, a TI 5532 Premium Headset Amplifier which supports up to 600ohm headphones, cap-less Direct Drive technology, an EMI shielding cover, PCB isolate shielding, and support for DTS Connect.
  • newegg HDMI-In: The Smart Way to Connect Your Devices Tired of constantly switching devices to connect to your one and only monitor? From now on, just connect the monitor to your motherboard, and connect your secondary device (such as a PS3 or Xbox) to the motherboard’s HDMI-In port. With HDMI-In, users may conveniently toggle between the computer’s screen and the secondary device’s screen with a hotkey, or even use their secondary device without powering on the computer.
  • newegg Premium Gold Caps This motherboard uses Premium Gold Caps that are 100% made in Japan. These solid capacitors are sleek, high-gloss caps with a premium gold coating that represents its long-lasting durability and ultra-stable performance.
  • newegg 8+2 Power Phase Design with Digi Power Designed with a 8+2 Power Phase design, this motherboard features sturdy components and completely smooth power delivery to the CPU. Hence, this motherboard offers unmatched overclocking capabilities with the best system stability, plus enhanced performance with the lowest temperature for advanced gamers and extreme overclockers. It also discards traditional analog power and uses a next-generation digital PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation) design. This provides CPU Vcore voltage more efficiently and smoothly, so that the stability and lifespan of the motherboard is greatly enhanced.
  • newegg High-Density Glass-Fabric PCB What you’ve never understood about your computer is that it is scared to death of water: H2O, humidity, or whatever you’d like to call it. And even though you do not see the water, there actually may be lots of excessive moisture in the air killing your motherboard silently and slowly. No, your motherboard doesn’t melt when in contact with water like the Wicked Witch of the West, but it dies of short circuiting. Luckily, ASRock has a new High-Density Glass-Fabric PCB design that reduces the gaps between the PCB layers to protect the motherboard against electrical shorts caused by humidity.
  • newegg X-Boost Brilliantly designed for smart overclocking, ASRock X-Boost Technology is able to unleash the hidden power of your CPUs. Simply press “X” when turning on the PC, X-Boost will automatically overclock the relative components to get a performance boost of up to 15.77%! With the smart X-Boost, overclocking CPU can become a nearly one-button process.

4 out of 5 eggsNice Features

Pros: - Supports 4 displays
- HDMI input
- Easy to use BIOS
- Plethora of ports and slots

Cons: - Not many fan headers
- PCI extra power input is in an awkward position
- Brown PCB doesn't look as good as black would

Other Thoughts: This motherboard has a large selection of ports and slots. It can support 4 display outputs, and an HDMI input at the same time. I doubt the HDMI input will ever be used, but hey, it's there. It has a good selection of PCI slots to support all your add-in card needs. The BIOS is good looking and easy to use, but not the most intuitive for navigation. There are three things I wish I could change about this board though. Firstly, I would like a few more fan headers. You can never have enough fans. Two, I would relocate the PCI power jack to the bottom of the board rather than having it impossible to prettily route a cable to in the middle of the board. And third, I would change the brown PCB out for a black one to complete the sleek look of the board.

Overall, this is a good board in this price range. I would have no problems putting this in another computer.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Board Needs Better RAID Documentation

Pros: 8 SATA ports with RAID. No issues once configured. See other thoughts below.

Cons: I had a problem where the RAID utility would only see the first four SATA ports. I opened up a ticket with ASRock and was told I needed to replace the board. I did and still had the same problem. I then received the correct response here on Newegg and a second email from support also with the correct info. While the first bad response cost me a lot of time, shipping an item back, purchasing another, running out to get thermal paste, etc. I am still giving the board 5 stars because the board wasn't at fault and is working fine. See other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: From ASRock in order to see all 8 SATA ports in the RAID Utility:
Please disable SATA IDE Combined Mode in BIOS, Advanced, Storage Configuration, SATA IDE Combined Mode [Disable\, save and exit.

This makes the last 4 SATA ports show up in the RAID utility. This info should also be with the RAID utility documentation.

I have all pairs in RAID 1: 2-SSDs 120GB, 2-2TB drives, 2-1TB drives and 1-LG DVD

1 out of 5 eggsInconsistant Peec Of S

Pros: slick capacitors.

Cons: just stops posting out of blue.

error code 32
(supposed to be cpu or memory)

worst thing Ive come across in a long time
this thing makes me look bad.
i have built alot of computers.90% of my new creations work first boot no problems for a long time.
8-9% might require some tweak. this is the one percent-er . bad taste from this board when it should have rocked.

Other Thoughts: 1 x G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000) Desktop Memory Model F3-17000CL9Q-

1 x Seagate Hybrid Drive ST1000DX001 1TB MLC/8GB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s NCQ 3.5" Desktop SSHD

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Motherboard

Pros: Great features, UEFI BIOS USB3 ports rear and front. This motherboard was for my friends computer which I assembled. I experienced no difficulty in installing the motherboard. I booted up first time and have no issues so far. I like dual BIOS and LED display. All components appear to be good quality. This is the my fourth AsRock motherboard and so far have no problem with any one of them.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have a spacious mid tower ATX case therefore had no issue with rear facing SATA ports however in a tight installation this could be a problem, in such case top facing SATA port will be easier to handle.

2 out of 5 eggsSATA Hot Swap Does Not Work

Pros: Have not had enough experience to find pros.

Cons: Hot swap for SATA drives is specifically called out on the spec sheets for this motherboard. It does not work in Windows 8.1. The drives show as standard drives and will not hot swap. I contacted tech support and they were no help in their first response and would not respond to follow up emails. At this point the motherboard is of little use due to the lack of hot swap ability.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Hot Swap and Hot Plug functions are different.
Hot swap works under RAID1, RAID5 (mirror) configuration and Hot Plug works for data drives (non OS drive) with AHCI mode without turn off the system power.
If you have any technical issues please contact us at http://www.ASRock.com/support/tsd.asp. We will assist you shortly.

5 out of 5 eggsGood value, great price

Pros: - 7 SATA ports
- Paired with the AMD A10-5800K Trinity with integrated Radeon HD 7660D, HDMI audio & video is flawless and no-fuss
- BIOS is amazing! Lots of features and finally looks like something from this century (doesn't look like the BIOS from my 1990's computer anymore)

Cons: - This is a FULL SIZED board, not micro-ATX (design decision, not really a con)
- Could not run G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 at 2133 stable (probably not motherboards fault)

Other Thoughts: Full featured board. I love the fact that it has so many USB and SATA ports! I could finally get rid of those add-in cards! Love the BIOS -- very, very flexible and great for overclockers. It powered right up, no problems at all. I immediately went into the BIOS and performed a update -- it connected to the internet and downloaded the update!! No OS necessary! The easiest BIOS update ever!

Paired this motherboard with AMD A10-5800K Trinity 3.8GHz (4.2GHz Turbo) Socket FM2 100W Desktop APU (CPU + GPU) with DirectX 11 Graphic AMD Radeon HD 7660D. HDMI audio & video works flawlessly.

Could not run G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 at 2133 stable, Latest BIOS, latest Win 7, 64-bit with all updates. XMP settings detected and used. Win 7 would boot and run for several minutes, but as soon as Firefox (high RAM use) is opened, the computer crashes -- hard. The motherboard auto detects the RAM as 1600, not 2133. Running at 1600, it is completely stable. This motherboard is listed as compatible with this RAM according to G.SKILL.
Again, I believe the RAM is at fault, not the motherboard.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Features at A great Price

Pros: -8+2 Power Phase and All Digital
-High Definition Audio, Same as other Brand's execution at a great price
-includes Crossfire molex power
-onboard power and reset button (has Cons Too)

Cons: -Plasticky Sound
-Very Flexible might be susceptible to warping
-Small Heatsink for Massive VRM Phases
-On Board Power and Reset Button made of Cheap Materials, Not much of a Design and Should be Placed on the Upper Right Side of The Board

Other Thoughts: -Price to performance is Great. I just Hope Asrock made a little Mile more on their design concept and Heatsink Size

1 out of 5 eggsAsRock Extreme 6+ A88x

Pros: Great On-board Audio
Very good overclocking ability
Easy BIOS update (flash)
Nice software package

Cons: 2600Mhz OC Ram is not an option in the BIOS
Max Ram Setting is 2400Mhz
2400Mhz throws errors
AsRock Tech support told me only 2400 RAM is listed as supported, yet the board is advertised specs at 2600(OC)

Other Thoughts: As another reviewer stated his RAM was unstable with this MoBo. Mine runs perfect @ 2133, but will not go higher on this board.
I'm using Corsair Vengeance 2666 memory and AsRock informed me that only 2400 is supported... yet the specs clearly state 2600 is an option
In the BIOS enabling XMP to 2666 defaults to the boards MAX setting of 2400. You cannot set the RAM to 2600 manually or using XMP so 2600 is not even in the BIOS options... using the newest BIOS and the original one installed.

I did not have this issue on 2 other motherboards by another company. The RAM works without errors at 2400 and higher.

AMD A10-7850K
AsRock Extreme 6+
Corsair Vengeance 2666 (8Gb)
Crucial M500 240Gb SSD
Corsair HX750 PSU

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please download and update the latest BIOS at below link.
http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/FM2A88X%20Extreme6+/?cat=Download&os=BIOS
Load the XMP setting at BIOS, OC Tweaker, DRAM Timing Configuration to try.
However, according to memory controller in CPU, it supports 1866 or 2133 depends on adopted CPU.
