3 out of 5 eggsGreat board wih some wierd quirks

Pros: This board is packed with great options and I have been using ASRrock for the last three builds. This is my second ITX board. I am running the AMD A10-7850K Kaveri in a
Cooler Master Elite 130 - Mini-ITX Computer Case. Recognized memory properly everything setup quite easy but there were and are some strange things happing with this build .

Cons: Ok now on to the strange things I'm talking about. First off the Manuel is lacking for info and that seems to be the case with all ASRock motherboards. Raid was a bit weird to figure out but not terrible. I couldn't get windows 7 to load at first even with the raid thumb drive in and loaded with drivers. Windows 8 loaded up fine but I don't want windows 8 on this build. So I started over with win 7 and it went the second time. Next is the driver disk.
I hate fighting with ASRock over the Chrome install on the driver disk. I hate Chrome and I know there is a way around this but I paid for the board and I don't expect to have to have some marketing scheme crammed down my throat. Almost as bad as going to a movie theater. But I digress. Upon running install all option it just sits there nothing showing that anything is loading I had to click on the X in the corner to get a prompt asking If I really want to shut app down while its running. The next weird thing was I cant boot up my computer with the Driver disk in the DVD rom. If I do it prompts me to install a floppy disk with SATA drivers or something to that effect. Select Y or N. Either selection says to reboot and then the same loop. So when it restarts to continue the driver install I have to pull the disk between every reboot. Its weird that I haven't seen this problem with anyone else on this review board. So I assume I just have some strange setting off or something. Tried Bios default still same thing.

Other Thoughts: The only reason tor Two stars off is for the problems stated above and the Google Chrome sales pitch. Other than that I still love the way the board runs.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize that you having difficulty with boot option.
To avoid ASRock Driver disc boot, please set boot option #1 for Windows HDD/SSD drive, ODD drvie for second boot option, since Windows installation disc needs to boot for first time installation only.
Press F11 repeatedly to bring boot menu, once system is started, select desire drive to boot.

If you have any technical support inquiry, please contact us at We will assist you shortly.

Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsLike a charm

Pros: Full featured.
Colored coded IO plate.
Built in wireless with external antennae.
Solid packaging.

Cons: Chassis fan header under back of PCI slot.
Audio header at back of board.

Other Thoughts: I used in SILVERSTONE Milo series ML05B and front audio connection barely looped around board to audio header that was in back corner of the board. The chassis fan header is between the PCI slot and the back of the board. I didn't use PCI slot or chassis fan, but could be close fit.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

Pros: Tons for feature crammed onto an mini itx form factor. UEFI is super easy and packed with all kinds of goodies.

Cons: Had to reset the CMOS at first initial start up. Front panel connectors are impossible to read and the instruction booklet diagram is super tiny. I had to download the PDF and zoom in to read it.

Other Thoughts: At first boot it did nothing. I didn't panic (that's the key). Reset the CMOS and it turned on. Then i figured out I had 2 connectors hooked up inncorectly for the front panel. Fixed that and everything was great. Awesome value for the money.

5 out of 5 eggsNice board

Pros: Worked out of the box with an A10 7850K
Came mounted in foam that allowed for easy component testing prior to installing it into case
No issues installing Corsair memory with large heat sinks
Chassis connectors all properly labled (no need to reference manual)

Cons: No complaints. If you need to build a SFF PC with AMD APU, this is the jaun piece for you.

4 out of 5 eggsOne real flaw.

Pros: I love the layout and the size of this board but even though it comes with a wireless card and bluetooth, it's nice that the card is installed on a msata/mpcie board and removable.

Cons: With all the bells and whistles that this board has, it's really disappointing that the esata socket doesn't support an esata multiplier for hooking up a raid/jbod box.

Since this is the main reason I had bought this board, I'm debating whether to return it or keep it.

Other Thoughts: With the Asrock web site, the product description here, and the manual all clamoring about built in raid support, the fact that the esata port doesn't support multiple drives is a little misleading.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Clean

Pros: Board came very well packaged. Nothing flashy about this board except it's size to power ratio. I am very please, would be nice if it came with adapters for the 20 pin ATX power plug so I could manage wires more easily.

Cons: Board did not come with the fastening nuts to secure the WiFi cables to the included I/O plate. bummed

5 out of 5 eggsGreat motherboard!

Pros: This motherboard has everything I could want in an extremely small form factor. This is the second time I have ordered this same motherboard, and the first one is still performing satisfactorily as my main desktop.

This second motherboard I ordered because I wanted a media center, and it seemed like a logical choice, given its track record. For those interested in the details, I am running XBMC with the Pandora add-on, on Slackware Linux. I am playing the music via HDMI audio, and it works quite well.

Cons: If there is any downside to this motherboard, it is the fact that the connecting wires to the integrated bluetooth/wifi module is so hard to attach, but that may be just a consequence of how it is designed. I do not think taking an egg off is warranted in this case.

Other Thoughts: For those wanting to have full functionality for basic tasks like a media center to a full-fledged desktop computer in a small form factor, you really can't go wrong with this motherboard. I am really pleased that I came across this superbly engineered little motherboard.Kudos to ASRock/ASUS for an excellent price/features ratio!

5 out of 5 eggsASRock FMA88X-ITX

Pros: Well thought out design. Everything seems to work correctly. This being my first build in over 4 years so it's nice to have WiFi and bluetooth onboard.

Cons: Not a real con to knock off a star. I bought a motherboard not a driver DVD, but really ASRock, the DVD was unreadable in three >3< different DVD drives, one drive I ordered the same day as the motherboard. The only thing that could be read were the utilities so I had to download the drivers from the slow as (expletive) ASRock web site, only to find the allin1 drivers were Catalyst 8 AMD drivers.
Over TWO hours to download drivers!

Other Thoughts: If you get no video from first boot you don't have the RAM seated correctly, even though it looks like its in it's not.

Use the ASRock A-Tuning program to read temperatures, not a downloaded monitor program so you don't freakout and spend $50+ on a aftermarket CPU cooler that probably isn't needed. Right now A-Tuning is showing 93F and HWmonitor is showing 139F.

ASRock, find someone else to duplicate you driver DVDs.

3 out of 5 eggsDidn't come with Wifi Module

Pros: I really like the size and power in this little board. Has just about everything onboard that you would want.

Cons: DID NOT COME WITH WIFI MODULE!! really upset about this!!
Also dost recognize my memory at 2133 . Reads it as 1333. I am however able to clock it up. So just a minor annoiance

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent performance / features

Pros: Recognized F3-2400C11D-8GXM GSkill using xmp profile runs 2400 no problems, using Kaveri 7850K, running at 4.00 GHz. Samsung Evo 120, boots up in 12 seconds after bios screen, I use latest AMD drivers. Asrock turbo 3.0 usb.

So many options, most users must stick with auto settings or you could damage things. Stick with standard OC like 10 15 % etc.

AsRock has a better layout and more SATA options then the Gigabyte 88x, both good mobo, Asrock has better layout for SFF,, nice feature: HDMI in,

Cons: mini-itx boards dont seem to have display port yet.....

Other Thoughts: After reading these posts, I think most DIYs are just not able to figure out how to install these components. Start with basics, dont change any voltages, review memory comments, if you use Intel, then get the memory Intel people like, if you use AMD, then use that memory. simple procedure, check before purchasing
