4 out of 5 eggsReliablity

Pros: Very reliable and flexible for use. I own a repair store and have kept this board (and the previous model) on stock for the last 4 years. Since it is both AM2 and AM3 and DDR2/3. It has become the repair board for most AMD store bought PC's easy to set up windows from XP/Vista to windows 7, no issues no problems. For this reason I give it 4 eggs.

Cons: With that said it is a good thing it is not expensive since the ability to RMA a bad board is not possible. I have one board I bought from here went to use it and it was DOA. Since It sat on my self for longer than 30 days I could not return through Newegg. ASRock does not RMA they require you go through the vendor but since no vendors warranty/return after 30 days ASRock boards have basically only a 30 day warranty. I now check each board first when I get it so that it does not happen again before it goes on the shelf. The DOA board I use for show and tell and CPU that I had to straighten pins on since that's all I can do with it . I still stock and sell the board since 1 DOA in 4 years is good, but I will not order high end ASRock boards since that is too large of a monetary loss if DOA or goes bad since I give my customers a warranty on every thing I sell and repair.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

Thank you for purchase and review.
For the RMA, please check the product warranty under Newegg return policy and manufacturer Warranty.
However, Newegg has 30 days return policy, if past the 30 days, contact us (ASRock) for replacement and we will be more than happy to assist you.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate on my old review

Pros: I was of course expecting the board to work out of the box, but then again, the quality of boards at this price are sketchy at most.
Anyways, the ACTUAL reason why the board was dead, was surprisingly because of the old AMD dual core CPU I pulled from a different system. I failed to think that one of the mosfets went boom and the power supply on that system turned into a bomb, so eventually I bought an FX-6300 and the board works perfectly. Paired with an EVGA GT630 card for the time until I can afford a better card.

Cons: Overclocking. But who would honestly buy a $60 board to overclock? If you do, and don't efficiently adjust your settings, more than likely the board won't be too happy with you, and be extremely hot.

Fan headers. The only connector capable of speed control, is the CPU connector because it's a 4-pin PWM. All of the others, as far as I know, don't easily have any speed controlling capabilities, so I had to rig up an external fan controller for the 2-3 other fans that were in the case at the time.

Other Thoughts: I decided to do this review since I looked back on my rather... frustrated review, and listening to peers of mine saying that ASRock isn't that bad of a brand, I decided to shed some light on the situation. But, since this is a lower end board for the more severely budgeted builders, it can be used to hold the user off until they can afford a better board.
I like this board.

4 out of 5 eggsgreat motherboard

Pros: Easy installation
I/O shield was easy to install
All conectors for fans and other things are labled on the motherboard
Came with a manual for all the pins and their connections
Works as intended

Cons: I really wish the board manufacturer would throw in some thermal paste along with it.

Had to buy some seperately, so if you're replacing a motherboard, make sure you have some thermal paste handy, because when the CPU cooler comes off, you got to re-apply thermal paste.

Other Thoughts: i bought this to replace an AM2 motherboard for an old AMD Cpu that was in a pre-built acer from 2006.

It worked flawlessly, replacement was no problem, installation a simple drop-in and connect.

It gave me some troubble on the first boot up, but after clearing the BIOS via onboard pins, it started right up!

They shipped the thing with FedEx, i prefer Canada Post over FedEx any day of the week.
I can pick up items from Canada Post in my small town, but to pick up a FedEx item, i have to make an hour and a half 50 km trip into the nearest bigger citty.

5 out of 5 eggsLet me use older and newer parts.

Pros: Had an old dual core AMD Chip (AM2) and DDR2 memory that I wanted to use. Also had some EIDE optical drives that still were good. This board let me used all my old parts and still make a good rig. Even had a 3.5 in floppy hooked to it for a while that let me recover some data. Using a SATA SSD and it all works together. I have an ASUS video card in this as well and use it for HDMI for a HTPC.

Cons: Made for 95 watt chip max.

Other Thoughts: I am glad I found this board that will serve current needs while using older parts that otherwise may have never have gotten used.

2 out of 5 eggs960GC-GS FX

Pros: It works, low price, good compatibility for older parts laying around.

Cons: Doesn't seem to like my new FX6300 six core AM3+ processor. Flashed bios to latest version, reinstalled Win7, installed latest mobo and video drivers and still cant get frame rates back to where they were.

Other Thoughts: The motherboard worked great when it had 89w Phenom II x2 555 callisto AM3. My processor upgrade turned into a downgrade lol. This mobo seems like a good choice for older parts like AM2 with DDR2 or AM3 with DDR2 / DDR3. Probably not a good choice for the new AM3+ processors. Spend an extra 10, 20 or 30 more bucks for a better board if your going to use the socket AM3+ FX processors.

1 out of 5 eggs2 DOA

Pros: Can't think of any

Cons: Wasted time and money on two of these. They post but fail to install Windows. 0x0000007b errors on both boards. Tried with various CPU's and different RAM in 2 different cases.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

Thank you for your purchase and review. Sorry to hear both mainboard having problem with Windows installation.
However, mainboard supports Windows XP/Vista/7/8 out of the box.
Please try with another known good ODD and Windows installation media if CPU and memory are good.

1 out of 5 eggsASROCK 960GC-GSFX

Pros: Neat layout. Installed quickly with no problems.

Cons: Motherboard died after loading OS. Thought it was something besides the motherboard. Replaced the Power Supply with two new ones. No luck. Tried two other NEW processors no post. Unplugged everything from the motherboard except power and CPU no post. Took out RAM no beep codes. Board is DOA

Other Thoughts: Trying to get it replaced but there are no other boards in stock. Bummed.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please trouble shoot the mainboard whether the issue is resolved.
Unplug the ATX power, remove all components from mainboard.
Clear the CMOS.
Reseat the CPU and heatsink fan.
Test with single memory module.
Plug the 24 + 4 pins ATX power back.
Turn on the power to check if its post.

4 out of 5 eggsWow.

Pros: Acting better then expected. Supporting both DDR2 and DDR3 has let me upgrade bit by bit which is a huge bonus for being tight on cash.

Cons: Some what limited upper end memory cap.

Other Thoughts: Best used as a desktop/work station board.
