1 out of 5 eggsNope. DOA. Well sorta DOA. See below.

Pros: Nope.

Cons: DOA. Mostly. Won't boot or POST with any config of the parts I have. Including a way overkill PSU and brand new RAM bough specifically for it. Tried with both RAM slots full. Tried with 1 slot full. Tried with no slots full. Will not even POST with VGA or HDMI connected. It starts up, reluctantly (spins over PSU fan, then dies, then comes on for good), then just sits there.

Also tried with an install of Linux on USB to see if it wanted to boot to OS before turning on display. Nope. Same behavior.

Other Thoughts: I'm RMA-ing because I really want it to work. I like the design and features. But if this happens again, that's it. I'm not the only one to experience this. Check the 1 and 2 egg reviews. Boards should at least be tested to POST and run a BIOS at the factory. Not sure how this happens unless ASRock's quality control is very lacking.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Joshua,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
If possible, please test with chassis speaker for trouble shooting.
Plug the chassis speaker to mainboard (location 11 on board's diagram), user manual link: http://66.226.78.22/downloadsite/Manual/Q1900-ITX.pdf
Remove all memory to test if it making 3 beep (indicates no memory installed).
If making 3 beeps, indicate mainboard is functioning.
Please test with mainboard reference memory on support list below.

5 out of 5 eggsRequires Linux Workaround

Pros: I've been using this board in a 24x7 server for 14 months. It was freezing every 1-2 weeks. A month ago, I finally got down to trying to fix that. If you run Linux, you will need add this to your kernel boot parameters: intel_idle.max_cstate=1
Source: bug 109051 on bugzilla.kernel.org .

Other parameters you might need: clocksource=acpi_pm tsc=reliable

Runs on 35W, when the 4 rotating rust drives are sleeping. I use it for developing medium sized projects in Eclipse, and this board can keep up. (My previous board, an Atom 3xx, could not keep up.)

It can even play 720p and 1080i video via MythTV frontend.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: If you need a low-power board, this is great.

4 out of 5 eggsabout 25-30 watts at system idle

Pros: Runs cool and has good video capabilities. Works great for basic computing.

Cons: I saw a lot of reviews stating that power consumption at system idle was around 10 -15 watts. For me, I got around 25-30 watts. So I was somewhat disappointed with the power consumption. Too be fair, I have a couple of 1 TB mechanical hard drives connected to the system. Running linux ubuntu as well.

5 out of 5 eggsNice motherboard

Pros: small form factor. pretty fast. boots in 8 seconds to windows 8.1 with an ssd. and 16 gigs of ram

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I bought this motherboard for a media center for running Kodi. It is awesome.it does not stutter or freeze. I have had zero problems with this mother board. I may buy a second.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid

Pros: SOLID SOLID SOLID. I have this in a torrent/NAS box I built and have it on 24/7. Not a single crash or error from this thing. I also run two VM's on this machine (Windows 7 and Ubuntu) to run some scripts, no sweat. I really like the fact that it's passively cooled so there is no CPU heat sink fan noise. If you're worried about running this thing 24/7, I did not really notice a change in my electricity bill. Maybe $1-2/month at most to run it all the time with a 4TB hard drive and case fan.

Cons: Really really small con but due to the Intel graphics chipset I cannot get full resolution on my Samsung 4K monitor when remoting into the machine through Windows 7. The width of the screen is fine but the height is clipped a little.

Other Thoughts: If you're thinking about buying this and can wait... probably wait until "Skylake" comes out. This motherboard/cpu was released sometime in 2013.

3 out of 5 eggsPrinted manual stinks

Pros: There is one

Cons: Who was the idiot who thought light grey ink in a tiny font would be a good idea? If you need to have a multi-language manual and a small font please use black ink.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

Thank you for purchase and review.
The user manual (pdf format) can be also download at link below and it can be increased the font for reading.

5 out of 5 eggsNice little board

Pros: Board worked great for what i needed, installed debian 8.0 on it every thing worked perfectly, got this for a samba server setup and it works just fine, Transfer speeds are alittle slow but i think that has to do with the laptop hdd i am using,

Cons: it hiccups some times, small freezes, might be sata controller related or the drive im using but i figure it might be worth mentioning, i plan to update bios to see if that fixes it

5 out of 5 eggsBest Deal for Mini-PC

Pros: Another great low-priced board from Asrock. Has most of the utilities and settings of their higher boards (but no overclocking). I did a UEFI install of Windows 8.1 and it can now be set to "ultra fast boot", which means 8 second boots and restarts. A UEFI install is easy on this board since all the hardware is compliant. With a cheap 120GB SSD and 8GB of RAM,I have a full-featured Windows 8.1 Desktop PC with a fairly snappy quad core, USB 3.0, 2 x SATA 6GB/s ports and 2 x SATA 3GB/s ports. Runs 24-96 audio and 1080p video seamlessly. Board and CPU never exceed 45c even under heavy load (with single 120mm fan in tiny case). 10 watt TDP, very low power consumption.

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: Built a sweet little Intel system for less than $300, using an old 19' monitor (free!).

4 out of 5 eggsCheap and fast enough

Pros: Has enough power for HTPC purposes. Low wattage. I'm using an old broadcom Crystal HD decoder to help reduce the CPU load when playing videos.

Cons: 1st board was broken. It had a permanent yellow tint to it. RMA'd and got a new one. I subtracted one star because of this but mostly because I had to pay for shipping. Basically I spent another $9 on this board because of poor quality. If return shipping was free, I'd keep this at a 5 star.
Actually I would also subtract another .25 stars if I could because there is only 1 internal 2.0 USB pin connection. It's not a deal breaker but a bit annoying when your case needs 2 USB connectors and your 5 year old atom board was able to accommodate them.

Other Thoughts: I'm using Windows 10 preview, 4gb of ram and an old 64gb SATA II SSD. It's surprisingly normal for normal use. Don't expect heavy gaming or video editing with this cpu but it's great for Video Watching /Internet/Office use.
