XXL Aluminum Alloy Heatsink Design

The extra large aluminum alloy heatsinks take away heat dramatically. As the MOSFETs and chipsets areas are well covered by these heatsinks to protect them from overheating, CPU and chipsets can perform with lower temperature, and your motherboard and system will be more stable and reliable.

ASRock ASRock

Premium Alloy Choke

The new generation alloy chokes effectively increase up to 90% saturation current and feature a highly magnetic and heat resistant design, making the motherboard more efficient, stable and reliable.

ASRock

ASRock

Dual-Stack MOSFET for CPU Power

Dual-Stack MOSFET (DSM) is another innovative MOSFETs design by ASRock. The silicon die area is increased by stacking two dies into one MOSFET. The larger the die area, the lower Rds(on). Compared to traditional discrete MOSFET, DSM with larger die area provides extreme lower Rds(on) 1.2mΩ, so the power supply for the CPU Vcore is more efficient.

ASRock

ASRock

NexFET MOSFET for Memory Power

The next generation NexFET MOSFETs control the power supply to DRAM slots more efficiently. They provide lower RDS(on) 2.9mΩ, delivering higher efficiency and lower temperature.

ASRock

ASRock

NexFET MOSFETs in memory areas use a special design for protecting them from electrostatic discharge and offer up to 7.5 times the ESD protection levels compared to traditional MOSFETs.
*Human Body Mode.

ASRock

12K Platinum Caps

Supreme 12K platinum capacitors with lifespans of at least 12,000 hours. Compared to other counterparts on high-end motherboards that merely have lifespans of around 10,000 hours, these platinum capacitors have 20% longer lifespans and provide more stability and reliability.

*Tested under industry standard 105 degree Celsius ambient temperature.

ASRock

Sapphire Black PCB

ASRock does not overlook any details, even those tiny ones. With pure black PCB appearance, the new Sapphire Black PCB represents rock-solid quality and gives the motherboard a more mysterious touch.

Ultra M.2 (PCIe Gen3 x4)
The World's Fastest M.2 Socket - PCIe Gen3 x4

The onboard M.2 socket is a new interface for connecting Next Generation Form Factor (NGFF) SSDs or other devices. ASRock is the first in the world to implement PCIe Gen3 x4 M.2 socket on motherboards. The ultimate Ultra M.2 interface pushes the speed up to 32Gbps which is 6X faster compared to other M.2 Gen2 x1 solutions that are limited to 5Gbps.

5 out of 5 eggsexcellent board

Pros: Easy setup, many options that blows away other motherboards that cost twice as much. I had the z68 extreme 4 that lasted at least 3 years. I expect this board will do the same. Easy to get to the bio page and change your settings. My cpu is set too max frequency and neither the cpu nor the board is overheated...but then again, I have 4 fans running while I replaced the stock intel fan. Converting video to DVD takes less than 15 minutes and yes...I have an I7 chip. The XFast Lan really works. Before this board, my best download speed (utorrent) was around 3.5M/s. Now is between 6.5 to 7+M/s.

Cons: none, love this board

5 out of 5 eggsoutstanding mb, im sure...

Pros: according to tomshardware.com this is an outstanding motherboard. i wouldnt know because despite paying extra money on top of the extra money i spent to get it shipped quickly, its still hanging out in a warehouse.

Cons: newegg shipping is a joke. i spent the money for 3 day shipping and the extra fee for expediting the order, but i still have to wait 6 days for it to arrive from 2 states away.

Other Thoughts: id rather drive the 30 miles to a competitors electronic store that im not allowed to name. ill spend 1/4 as much on gas as shipping and have it that day.

4 out of 5 eggsSo close

Pros: This is my best mobo to date

Cons: I only wish both disk controllers could do RAID. Only the 6 sata controller does RAID, the 4 will be stand alone. And if you do esata then there are addition limitations you will need to understand. I wanted my SSD OS drives to by RAIDed on the smaller controller and my HD data drives to be on the big controller. If this is what you want to do then get more extreme.

Other Thoughts: OK, I still have my SDD OS drives RAIDed with my HD data drives using the big controller - I can do this until I need to expand past 4 data drives. This leaves the small no-raid controller for my sata optical and esata.

4 out of 5 eggsExceeds Expectations

Pros: Performs well; Add-ins work better then ever; Startup was clean and complete 1st time out (see below); Service was response and precise.

Cons: Documentation could be more clear. I plugged in an "extra" cable and the diagnostic pointed to two wrong sources of the problem.

Other Thoughts: I am using this as a Media Center. Works flawlessly. I will buy a second to build another machine.

5 out of 5 eggsEverything worked fine

Pros: Everything set up and was detected perfectly fine on the first try. I used an i5 4690K at stock settings at the moment. Carried over my 3 old patriot RAM sticks from my old mobo (also ASRock) and added an additional stick by Team with same settings. New stick worked fine with the older ones but the auto timings weren't optimal. I manually set the RAM timings and everything's been fine.

Cons: Not a big deal. My fourth stick of RAM wasn't the same as the other 3 which might be why the auto timings weren't set to the optimal settings. I changed it in bios and everything's been fine. Haven't OC'd anything yet but stock settings are running without any problems.

Other Thoughts: i5 4690K
Samsung EVO 500gb SSD,
2X MSI GTX 670 Twin Frozr
ASUS Xonar STX Sound Card
Old DVD burner (Forgot the details)

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic!

Pros: - Very easy to setup.
- DVD drivers solved all USB 3.0 issues that were listed from previous reviews.
- The A-tuning software by ASRock was also easy to use to overclock my 4790k (to 4.5 GHz with 38 C idle/60 under load) using a Corsair H60. I have not attempted to manually overclock yet (due to the hot temperatures in my house and don't really need the extra speed for what I'm doing atm)

Cons: Maybe some regular USB 2.0 on the rear panel would be nice.

Other Thoughts: I highly recommend!

1 out of 5 eggsNot user friendly nor fully functional

Pros: features and easy bios

Cons: faulty fan controller, no boot from bios, one usb 2.0 type A port, mini-pcie not fully working w/wireless ac, wrong sata placement, breakable heatsinks, outdated sata controller, no Q-connector, no easy RAM overclocking above XMP, faulty RAM OC settings, lack fan connectors, faulty boot recovery, lack boot support, useless manual, faulty pcie slots, useless dehumidifier, useless and faulty A-tuning, not future-proof, still uses Molex, faulty bios driver install using flash memory and the list goes on and on

Other Thoughts: overall this is not a good mobo although barely functional. no one should be buying this since this is essentially going to be phased out

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
The Fan control required 4 pins connector (especially on CPU fan) and can be set at UEFI BIOS, H/W Monitor or A-Tuning utility.
For more information, please visit user manual link under page 117 at " ftp://66.226.78.21/manual/Z97%20Extreme6.pdf ".

5 out of 5 eggsvery happy

Pros: lots of data ports. the z97 chip set is nice

Cons: I'm gonna write this here, it might have been something I was doing wrong, I'm not sure. I have an ssd plugged in to install an operating system. after installing windows 7 and all the drivers every time I restarted the computer it would have start up issues. I switched witch sata port the sad was plugged into and its been fine since. maybe it won't boot from certain sata ports? still a great motherboard

2 out of 5 eggsMy Experience

Pros: The listed features are great.

Cons: Here is where the problem lies. I put together my build 2 weeks ago, but when I tried to load the software, the system would not talk with the monitor. I have a video card with my build, so I moved the video card to a different PCIe slot. That would not work either. So, then I took out the video card completely and plugged the monitor directly to the MoBo. Still, there was no interaction between the monitor and the MoBo.

I set up the new build beside my existing computer and just switched the monitor from the back of one to the back of the other, so it is not the monitor either. The only conclusion is that it has to be the MoBo. That is the only common denominator.

The system would power up, but there was no way to monitor it, since the MoBo would not work with the display. The display is HDCP compatible, so there is no issue there. I purchased it new 3 years ago from Newegg with an 1156 MoBo and an Intel i5 CPU.

Other Thoughts: I like the features that this board provides, but have been unable to get it working with a monitor. I work overseas, on a Naval Base. So, it is also difficult for me to send or receive items through the U.S. Postal Service. It is possible, but takes quite a bit of time to receive packages.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please trouble shoot the mainboard whether the issue is resolved.
Remove the mainboard from chassis, place it on mainboard’s box.
Clear the CMOS.
Reseat the CPU and heatsink fan.
Test with single memory module.
Test with onboard VGA.
Plug the 24 + 8 or 4 pins ATX power.
Turn the power on (using onboard power button) to check if its post.
If you have any technical support inquiry, please contact us at http://www.ASRock.com/support/tsd.asp. We will assist you shortly.

Thank you
