5 out of 5 eggsASRock is Rock solid!

Pros: I read a lot of reviews before picking up this motherboard and was primary looking for a decent motherboard that looked pretty nice for a new gaming build.

Upon doing some research and directing myself off my usual choice of Gigabyte, I decided to go with the ASRock Fatal1ty motherboard.
Reviews that I read basically stated it was a solid motherboard that wasn't too fancy with bells and whistles but was solid where it mattered, stability and reliability.
I can't say they were wrong. Upon putting my rig together, everything booted up without a hitch.

I went in to the very slick UEFI to double check everything looked good and began to promptly install a fresh copy of Windows 7(I know, not moving to 8-10 just yet).
Upon being greeted to desktop, I immediately installed the drivers provided on the disc as the ethernet port would not work until the driver was installed. That took care of it and I was online in moments.
The motherboard's very slick color scheme looks beautiful in my see thru window on my NZXT case and I've gotten compliments so far.

This paired up with a EVGA 970 GTX SSC, PC17000 G.Skill Ripsaws, Intel i7 4790, and Samsung 240 SSD for booting, and it runs blazing fast.
I actually enabled the Fast bootup and I counted 8 seconds from the point it goes between flashing past the mobo logo to desktop.

I have some Western Digit HDDs as storage units on the side and they picked up and ran flawlessly.
Overall a great motherboard with exception sound quality and a fast ethernet connection paired with whatever bandwidth your suppose to be getting.

I'd also like to give a mention to the packaging. ASRock goes beyond a typical anti-static bag and actually wraps the motherboard along the entire edging with foam padding to protect it from shock in transits. This was a very nice welcome and I hope other mobos do the same in the future.

Can't say enough good things considering I was a Gigabyte fan a long time. Now only time will tell whether or not I will be a future ASRock customer in my future.

Cons: Zero cons so far. I honestly want to dig into my head to think of anything just to report it but there really is none there...

Other Thoughts: If your on the fence of trying ASRock, I'd say give it a go. They are a no funny business, serious board company that gives you exactly what you need without beating around the bush. Plug in play was never made easier.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Does everything I need it to except wake on lan (see below). Posted first time, even with memory not explicitly on the compatability list.

Cons: Though the on-board NIC hardware supports Wake On Lan (WOL), the linux driver for the chip does not. (See bug 61651 at bugzilla dot kernel dot org).

Another minor issue: The firmware options for what to do on power is lost then restored are to either power on or power off. My old board had a third option which was to restore to the last state.

5 out of 5 eggsBetter than you think

Pros: Its colors. the Realtek ALC1150 audio card sounds crisp. Lan Killer App to boost your connectivity. Other apps to give you a discount on other products. No problems with it. The interface is beautiful and very easy in bios. It read all my drives. 1 SSD 120gb 1 SSD 250gb 1 sata II ssd 1 HDD 1TB.
It has a sense of durability and .. Z97 is for overclocking, paired with a Core I5 4690K devils canyon.. this thing will fly with the right cooler.
Nice little audio chipset and nice south bridge heatsink, its bigger than average of LGA 1150 boards.

Cons: x1 PCI Express 3.0 only 1st lane
x1 PCI Express 2.0 instead as 2nd lane

1 out of 5 eggsNot so fast my friend!

Pros: Price is good, the mobo looks good.

Cons: The board keep turning back on in 4 seconds every time I turn it off. I have cleared the CMOS, set the "Restore on Power Loss" to "Power Off", flashed the BIOS to v1.6. I think I have a bad board.

Other Thoughts: I wish this worked. I built this computer for a friend and I am not even able to deliver it because of the motherboard issues.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

1 out of 5 eggsTwo RAM slots not working!

Pros: Well designed

Cons: I tried to assemble the parts but got 4 beeps. Usually this is the case when a connection is wrong or RAM is defective and it took me one week to realize that nothing is wrong with RAM or anything else, but RAM Slots A_1 and A_2 are broken. Really disappointing!

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsSweet!

Pros: Ok, I know looks don't make something work well, but this thing looks sweet! I like the new trends for Mobo's to look stylish. Other than that, I have no complaints about this board. It does exactly what I need and the price was great for what it is!!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I would have ordered the blue version instead of red if I would have known my case fan lights were going to be blue. My solution is to get some new case fans! :)
