1 out of 5 eggsWell it's pretty.

Pros: Good features, Good price.

Cons: Job #1 is to function...Not happening. Appears to be a issue that gets a lot of talk in the forums, but as yet no solution. Sent a service ticket to ASROCK and they said I should talk to the vendor. So do they keep sending them out til I find one that works?

Other Thoughts: Getting A2 error code indicating sata/ide error. Using a new 512gb SSD, Asus DVD to load new wWin 8.1 Pro 64bit. 16gb ram and Intel I7-4790K. MB has latest Bios, swapped, sata cables, Sata power connectors, tried different ram, single stick. Trying to load with integrated graphics then will install card. Everything else has been tested and passed except MB & CPU.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Code "A2" should be screen display.
Please press F2 or Del to check if it’s changed to "Ab" (BIOS screen).
Remove discrete VGA card.
Test with onboard VGA.
Try with another monitor and cable if problem still persist.

1 out of 5 eggsDead after 6 weeks

Pros: No major issues at first. I selected this ASRock board because it was recommended by others and has nice features, so I gave it a shot with a new PC build last month.

Cons: Was working day after day for weeks. Yesterday, pressed power button and got nothing. Cleared CMOS, still dead. Swapped PSU from one of my other servers, still dead.

Motherboard is now outside of newegg's 30-day return policy, so I submitted a ticket with ASRock and am now waiting for their response. I'll update this post with results.

Other Thoughts: I'm looking forward to a good first experience with ASRock customer support.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

Sorry to hear that the mainboard has malfunctioned after 6 weeks which’s due to nature of electronic product, it can happen.
Please trouble shoot the mainboard whether the issue is resolved.
Remove the mainboard from chassis, place it on mainboard’s box.
Remove all components from mainboard.
Clear the CMOS.
Reseat the CPU and heatsink fan.
Plug the 24 + 8 or 4 pins ATX power.
Turn the power on (using onboard power button) to check if its get the power.
Populate the components one by one to test for screen POST if it gets the power

4 out of 5 eggsBest Board for your Money!

Pros: + Simple, elegant UEFI BIOS
+ DEBUG LED Extremely helpful
+ Back up BIOS A/B, life saver
+ Very easy, stable overclockable board
+ Runs very stable with Windows 8
+ Legendary build quality
+ Plenty of USB 3 ports and USB 2 compatible ports
+ Slick blue/black interface look

Cons: - Headphones / Mic quality not good = due to audio driver
- WAKE ON Feature unstable

Other Thoughts: What can I say more, that hasn't already been said about this fantastic motherboard? I cannot recommend this board enough! Seriously, if you have any inkling of doubt as to whether to get this board or not, do not waste another minute!

The Z97 EXTREME4 board is one of the best Z97 boards out there in the market right now. I decided to go with the Asrock one, because this board has been tested to provide a really nice solid overclock for any of the intel K processors. Without going into too much details, the capacitors on this board are of high quality and my overclock benefited greatly from this. If you are not in the market for an overclock, this board is a really good one regardless, in case you do plan to overclock in the future.

The included A-tuning overclocking software is a basic app. If you plan to overclock, do it manually.
I did try A-tuning out, and it worked out for the most part. The best part of the board was the most effective UEFI I have ever seen. The interface was fluid and easy to navigate, and every settings from XMP Profile to C states are configurable with a click of a button.

The only thing that takes away from this amazing motherboard is the gimmick of an "audio solution". The Purity Sound driver is average at best. I'm not an audiophile to say the least, but this board is not impressive in the audio department.

**To sum up: ASRock has found the sweet spot here. The price for the Z97 is really good for all of the features and qualities that it dishes out. Buy this motherboard for your new build and you won't regret it.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent Board

Pros: * Has a very nice BIOS setup
* Has 8 SATA ports
* Good build quality
* Very stable under Windows 7 x64
* Lots of fan headers
* Intel Gigabit Ethernet
* Lots of overclocking features.
* Lots of USB 3 ports.

Cons: * Terrible audio
* Bugs with ASRock's A-Tuning software caused me to uninstall it.
* I hate the right-angle SATA ports but everybody is doing it.
* The 2 SATA ports provided by the ASMedia chipset are slower than the Intel SATA ports.

Other Thoughts: This was my first ASRock board as I have always used Gigabyte or Asus in the past but the price was good for the features offered so I thought I would give it a try. I had read some bad reviews about the board being thin with rough solder joints but I didn't experience any of that with this board. The solder joints seemed neat and clean and the board very robust overall. I also didn't notice any flexing during installation like some review sites had mentioned. The board installed easily and booted right up the first try even though the bios version didn't directly support the Intel Core i7 4790K I had installed. No for the cons... The onboard audio is total garbage! I was very surprised by this after reading about all the upgraded components for the audio section! I'm not exactly an audiophile but I am picky about how my music sounds and the audio on this motherboard is offensive to my ears. I just can't listen to anything through it. Adjusting the EQ makes it even worse causing drop outs and shifts in the volume. My last system had an Asus Xoner DS card which I enjoyed very much but because this motherboard doesn't have any PCI slots I couldn't use it for this build. I had to purchase an Asus Xoner U7 to replace the onboard audio. If you just want beeps and dings you will be fine but if you are somewhat more serious about quality sound then plan on picking up a sound card for your build. Now the second con is the ASRock A-Tuning utility... It is a really cool utility that shows temps, fan speeds, voltages, let's you overclock, and even has a picture of the motherboard where you can click on ports and slots and get detailed info about what's plugged in there. The issue is that when you lock your computer or log in remotely via RDP it causes a 12% constant CPU usage! It is well documented if you google it. Sadly the only way to resolve this is to completely uninstall the A-Tuning utility altogether. I really hope ASRock fixes this as it is needed for controlling the HDSaver port and really is a cool utility. The 2 SATA ports provided by the ASMedia chipset are much slower than the Intel SATA ports so make sure you use the Intel ports for the OS install. I found this out the hard way! I knocked off 2 eggs for these issues but I still think the board is good overall. The last gripe is for the right angle SATA ports. I hate these things. I know they are supposed to make the cabling more tidy and I think they do but man are they a pain for someone with big hands. I didn't knock any eggs off for this though as I knew what I was getting into and most board makers are doing it now.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat board

Pros: This is the setup review. Had zero problems, board had UEFI 1.30 already. There are so many options you need to spend some time looking at all the neat stuff added.
Memory was not on the QVL, I never do the setup correctly, I put all four sticks in and all was recognized no problems.

Cons: The LED reset and power don't stay on, but they don't on any of the Asrock boards I have. I had a 400.00 case that had a bad power button and got lazy to replace it, so was using the board PB, so if it happened again it would be nice if it was always lit. Not a big deal when most people will never use it unless they run into same problem.

Other Thoughts: This isn't a negative, but to me it is. I wish Asrock would keep up better on the beta drivers, UEFI ROM, Sata Drivers. I know they can't place the newest ones in the regular DL, because problems would make people flip out, but they should keep the beta section up to date and keep the newest firmware for UEFI in that section.

The board comes with 13.0.0.2075 OROM in BIOS / EFI mode, and same for Sata Driver when running pure UEFI for RAID.

So I had to inject the 13.2.0.2134 newest Sata Driver in the UEFI.

**Remember with this board, if you modify the BIOS / UEFI you must remove the header or you will get a flash fail because of security.

To people who don't know about pure UEFI when running RAID, unless you install in UEFI and have a GPU with a VBIOS to boot in Ultra fast, you are only in EFI. When booting pure UEFI and running a RAID array, the Intel OROM is not used, the UEFI uses Sata Driver. You only use the Intel OPTION ROM to make the RAID set or if not running pure UEFI, which is in the CSMCORE / PCI ROM in BIOS / UEFI which is the Intel Option ROM .

2 out of 5 eggsDied after a week

Pros: The board has beautiful design and good specs for the money (3 PCIE 3.0)

Cons: It simply died after a week, the debug LED does not even turn on. I had to buy a new PSU to test since I suspected my old PSU was the problem, but it was the board eventually.

Other Thoughts: I've just submitted a ticket to their support, hopefully I will get back from them soon, otherwise it is the first and the last board I would ever buy from Asrock.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Instructions were great. Work well with my system. Great price for what you get.

Cons: A lot of extra software and add ons that I don't use. I can't use all 4 of the memory slots with the Hyper 212 evo.

Other Thoughts: Great for a first time builder.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Overall a very strong bang-for-the-buck entry.

Cons: No eSata connection! How did I miss that? Thin PCB forced me to support my Cryorig X1 Ultimate and Sapphire Vapor-x 290 just to be safe.

Other Thoughts: Should have went with the Extreme6 or better......

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer
