General information

XXL Aluminum Alloy Heatsink Design

The extra large aluminum alloy heatsinks take away heat dramatically. As the MOSFETs and chipsets areas are well covered by these heatsinks to protect them from overheating, MOSFET and chipsets can perform with lower temperature, and your motherboard and system will be more stable and reliable.

General information

Premium Alloy Choke

The new generation alloy chokes effectively increase up to 90% saturation current and feature a highly magnetic and heat resistant design, making the motherboard more efficient, stable and reliable.

General information

Dual-Stack MOSFET for CPU Power

Dual-Stack MOSFET (DSM) is another innovative MOSFETs design by ASRock. The silicon die area is increased by stacking two dies into one MOSFET. The larger the die area, the lower Rds(on). Compared to traditional discrete MOSFET, DSM with larger die area provides extreme lower Rds(on) 1.2 mO, so the power supply for the CPU Vcore is more efficient. NexFET MOSFETs in memory areas use a special design for protecting them from electrostatic discharge and offer up to 7.5 times the ESD protection levels compared to traditional MOSFETs. (Human Body Mode.)

General information

NexFET MOSFET for Memory Power

The next generation NexFET MOSFETs control the power supply to DRAM slots more efficiently. They provide lower RDS(on) 2.9 mO, delivering higher efficiency and lower temperature.

General information

Nichicon 12K Platinum Caps

Supreme 12K platinum capacitors with lifespans of at least 12,000 hours. Compared to other counterparts on high-end motherboards that merely have lifespans of around 10,000 hours, ASRock applied Nichicon 12K Platinum Caps that offer 20% longer lifespans and provide more stability and reliability. (* Tested under industry standard 105 degree Celsius ambient temperature.)

General information

Sapphire Black PCB

Pure black PCB appearance. The new Sapphire Black PCB represents rock-solid quality and gives the motherboard a more mysterious touch.

General information

M.2 Socket (PCIe Gen2 x2 & SATA3)

The onboard M.2 socket is a new interface for connecting Next Generation Form Factor (NGFF) solid state drives or other devices. ASRock supports M.2 SATA3 6Gb/s modules and M.2 PCI Express modules up to Gen2 x2 10Gb/s, which is 2X faster compared to other M.2 Gen2 x1 solutions that are limited to 5Gb/s.

General information

SATA Express Connector

The SATA Express* interface provides PCIe Gen2 x2 (10Gb/s) data transfer speed. This motherboard offers the latest SATA Express connector to enthusiasts to enjoy the ultimate performance. (* Support to be announced.)

General information

Purity Sound 2

Purity Sound 2 includes 7.1 CH HD audio with Realtek ALC1150 audio codec, 115dB SNR DAC with Differential Amplifier, TI® NE5532 Premium Headset Amplifier, cap less Direct Drive technology, EMI shielding cover, PCB isolate shielding and DTS Connect. As Nichicon audio capacitors are what every audiophile has been longing for on a PC, ASRock applied these high quality capacitors for Purity Sound™ 2.

General information

15µ Gold Contact in DIMM & VGA PCIe Slot (PCIE2)

Unlike other motherboards come with only 3-4µ gold contact, this motherboard is coated with 15µ gold contact in the DRAM slots and PCIe x16 slot, thus providing better anti-oxidation protection than usual.

General information

Four Graphics Outputs

Never run out of graphics outputs! In case you have to connect four different types of monitors all at once, this motherboard supports all four kinds of graphics D-Sub, DVI-D, HDMI and DispalyPort.

General information

HDD Saver Technology

There's a dedicated 4-pin HDD Saver Connector placed near the SATA ports. By connecting it to the HDDs, you can shut down or turn on the HDDs via software when needed. HDD Saver Technology secures more privacy, saves more energy, and extends HDD life.

General information

Digi Power

Unlike traditional motherboards that use analog power, this motherboard uses a next generation digital PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation) design, which provides CPU Vcore voltage more efficiently and smoothly, so that the stability and lifespan of the motherboard is greatly enhanced.

General information

High Density Glass Fabric PCB

What you’ve never understood about your computer is that it is scared to death of water, H2O, humidity or whatever you’d like to name it. And even though you do not see the water, actually there may be lots of excessive moist in the air killing your motherboard silently and slowly. No, your motherboard doesn’t melt when in contact with water like the wicked witch of the west, but it dies of short circuit. Luckily, ASRock has a new High Density Glass Fabric PCB design that reduces the gaps between the PCB layers to protect the motherboard against electrical shorts caused by humidity.

In a world where time is money, why waste precious time everyday typing usernames to log in to Windows? Why should we even bother memorizing those foot long passwords? Nobody has time for that! Just plug in the USB Key and let your computer log in to windows automatically!

General information

ASRock App Charger

Simply installing the App Charger driver, it makes your iPhone charge up to 40% faster than before. ASRock App Charger supports continuous charging when your PC enters Standby mode (S1), Suspend to RAM (S3), hibernation mode (S4) or power off (S5). The App Charger technology has been fully applied on ASRock Full series motherboards.

General information

Dehumidifier

Dampness kills most electronics, so it's a better idea to keep your personal computer dry. Now users may prevent motherboard damages due to dampness by enabling Dehumidifier. When it is enabled, the computer will power on automatically to dehumidify the system after entering S4/S5 state.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat motherboard, never had an issue, has all the features I could ever need.

Pros: - 3 PCi 3.0 slots, not that I could ever use them all, maybe for future expansion?
- Great UEFI interface for easy overclocks, well laid out.
- Supports m.2 for future expand ability
- Never had an issue or crash.

Cons: - Not sure why they still include molex pin or VGA output on the motherboard, wasted space and costs.

Other Thoughts: Comes with a hdd saver cable that allows you to easily "disconnect" a hard drive from the system to hide the drive. I have no use it for it but just pointing that out. Great motherboard, I have owned a few asrocks boards, H97 itx, z97 itx, z97 extreme4 and built two computers for friends with z97 fatalty, and z170 extreme6 boards. Never had an issue or complaint. Asrock boards tend to come with a lot of features and they have stepped up their game in the past couple years. Their PCB use to be extremely thin, very few voltage regulators, and cheap capacitors but that has changed. They provide a lot of value in their boards now compared to competitors in my opinion.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid this board

Pros: When it works, it works just fine.

Cons: As many others have noted, and as can be found with a quick google search, if you unplug your computer then your computer won't start backup again unless you leave it plugged in for a little while; 15 minutes or so (if you are lucky). This is due to a defective component on the motherboard that gets extremely hot once this issue comes to the forefront. This extreme heat has me worried that it will eventually cause a fire.

There is another issue that I haven't read about anywhere else. That issue being that my computer, when turned off, will now turn itself back on; shortly after being powered down. Even after updating bios and checking all of my settings, it just turns itself back on every now and then (repeatedly).

The longer I own this motherboard the more I get worried. Save yourself the stress and avoid this board.

1 out of 5 eggsSave Your Money

Pros: -None

Cons: -Worked for about 2 weeks until one day, it stopped reading my RAM
-Motherboard feels really low in quality

Other Thoughts: I ended up purchasing new RAM thinking that perhaps my RAM was the issue (which was a mistake). New RAM came in and nothing, still wouldn't boot. Tested the RAM and all the RAM was working properly (Yes they were compatible). Emailed ASRock's support, still no reply.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Andrew,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please trouble shoot the mainboard whether the issue is resolved.
• Turn the power off, clear the CMOS.
• Reseat the CPU and heatsink fan.
• Reseat and test with single memory module on each slot one by one.

1 out of 5 eggsDefective Piece of Garbage

Pros: -None

Cons: -Defective piece of garbage, as per title. This mobo had a widespread defect that was discovered after I bought it. They'll still distributing the piece of garbage to this day. Mobo doesn't power on for minutes to hours after being disconnected/reconnected to power source. ASrock knows about this and still distributes. You can find evidence of it all over the internet, with masses having this problem. I, of course, didn't realize it was a widespread problem until after the warranty was up. I thought I was doing something wrong the few times I had my PC removed from power. Don't buy this piece of junk, and don't buy ASrock. Ever.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsIt doesn't get much worse than this.

Pros: -Design
-Looks
-3 3.0 PCI-E Slots
-Nice layout, very easy to work with and install.
-Fine BIOS
-Good price
-Good chipset

Cons: Even though I just gave out a lot of pro's, this board is very, very un-reliable.
The board for me, died in 9 days.
9
Days.
I wake up one morning, get in me desk, try to boot the PC up, and I don't get a signal.
So not only did the thing die, but it died on a sunday morning, 9 days after it was running pretty well.
Some of the drivers put my PC in a BIOS loop because the drivers were from 10 years ago.
The thing is unreliable. Stay away from this board like the plague.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

Thank you for purchase and review.
Please provide detail about mainboard's drivers that 10 years ago and BIOS loop.
If using Windows (Microsoft) the default drivers form Windows could be related, but not mainboard's drivers.

5 out of 5 eggsASRock Z97 Extreme4 LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Great MoBo, no complaints. Packaged VERY well, I have been using Asrock Motherboards since they were Really fresh to the retail scene, and they used Google Translate to communicate with customers, and I will say from experience, that they have REALLY made it a long way. They had good products back then too, but theyre communication, support, and PAckaging Has REALLY improved leaps and bounds. This board has everything anyone could ask for in a "Z" type MoBo. I bought it cuz i need SLI capability.

Cons: I Wish they would adjust the DiMM slot color Finally. Asrock's Blue/Black Scheme has changed here and there, but those Darn RAM slots have bee nthat exact shade of Blue for a Very long time. They need to darken it to either match the Chipset Heatsinks, or switch it to straight black.

Other Thoughts: Stop already with the Bloatware on your driver discs. noone wants "media expresso" , or Norton Security Virus

4 out of 5 eggsFirst Build

Pros: -Easy installation and setup
-Great BIOS
-Color scheme looks fantastic

Cons: -None so far

Other Thoughts: I used this board for my first build and it was a piece of cake to setup. I only had one issue and it may be an issue with the case more so than the board itself.

There's a plastic guide around the USB 3.0 connection on the motherboard. I connected the plug from my case easily, but I had to unplug it when I cleaned up my cable routing. When I unplugged the cable it pulled the plastic guide off the motherboard exposing the pins for the USB 3.0 connection. Fortunately, I was able to remove the guide from the plug and put it back on the motherboard without bending or breaking any pins. After finishing routing my cables and plugging the USB cable from the case back in, everything still works. Just something to be careful of.

5 out of 5 eggs<3

Pros: Best mother board I've had the pleasure of overclocking on my i7 is stable at 4.7 on air at 1.296v been stable for months now

Cons: My cpu cooler covers my heat syncs on the mobo?

Other Thoughts: for haswell this is the mother board I will always recommend for overclocking I've had success on other boards but this things v-droop protection and 12phases make it so easy to achieve stable overclocks on its unreal and I'm only using a corsair cx750m so its not like my psu was designed for overclocking

Cons: Not even a week after I installed it. it was giving me problems. it says onboard video but even if you plug in any video output it still won't display on your monitor. if you connect you video card it still won't read the display from that ether.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsUsed for my first PC build

Pros: After reading a lot of negative reviews i must say i was worried, but after 2 weeks it has worked flawlessly.

Cons: i hooked up the hdmi cable to it and my monitor and it did not work, so i had to use my GPU HDMI port.

Other Thoughts: i guess they fixed the assembly process that was causing issues for a lot of people.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Noah,

Thank you for purchase and review.
For the onboard Video (HDMI), please Enable iGPU multi monitor setting in BIOS, Advanced, Chipset Configuration, IGPU Multi-Monitor [Enable], save and exit.
