Pros: My friend helped me build my PC and he suggested this to me. When working, no complaints.

Cons: My computer started randomly crashing. I thought it was the graphic card but we tested it on another system and it worked perfectly. So now we think it's the motherboard. My monitor will flash random colors while playing games or online. After a reset, my computer no longer turned on, only the fans on the graphics card came on.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

5 out of 5 eggsRight features at right price.

Pros: h97 chipset is great when paired with a non K cpu. I put a 4460 in this and it is plenty fast. Worked out of the box and booted up with perfect default bios settings. Board layout works for simple single card build. M-atx is going to be tight, but this one felt roomy despite the large heatsinks.

Cons: board is a bit flimsy, bends easy. Once in place it is fine. Documentation is lacking unless you go online.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat basic gamer MB no Server Drivers

Pros: Haven't built my own machine for some time, but had to for this project. Board is really solid for the money and lost of features. Everything works as advertised, just make sure you don't assume something is advertised that isn't.....

Cons: Found out that these consumer boards are all now being crippled to not run Microsoft Server OS's. Should have known but found out the hard way.... You cannot install 2008R2 while using the built in intel RAID. FYI

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board

Pros: Easily configured allowing custom fan speed control and graphics output to Intel integrated graphics and a radeon graphics card. Instruction manual almost clearly defines where and how to connect everything for setup.

Cons: Instruction manual does not map where all of the connectors are (I spent some time trying to find the audio connection)

5 out of 5 eggsImpressed

Pros: Good quality components for the price and H97 chipset, good layout of the components on the board. The vrm and chipset heatsinks remain cool to the touch even under load from gaming or working with any adobe programs. mATX form factor is perfect for a medium sized pc for those that want compact computing but don't want to pay a premium price for an iAtx board. Boot up time is quite fast even without an SSD.

Cons: My only gripe about it is the built in audio isn't the best, however I knew it before purchasing b/c it is solvable for me as I already own an X-Fi sound card that I will be putting in. Don't get me wrong the audio is adequate and clear if you are a casual gamer or just use headphones, but if you want a boomier/in your gut/rattle your brain audio experience I suggest getting a DAC or sound card.

Other Thoughts: My first ASRock board and it has impressed me thus far, worked perfectly right outa the box and boots fast to the OS. Will definitely look at ASRock mobo's in the future when I build another PC.

4 out of 5 eggsOverall a good board

Pros: reliable board before I upgrade bios.

Cons: After I upgraded thee bios version to 1.50, I can no longer shutdown the computer normally. Once I click shutdown from start screen, it will shutdown, and immediate reboot itself within several second. I thought, ok, how about to putting in the computer into sleep. Same thing, the computer sleeps for couple seconds, and immediately wakes itself up.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

Thank you for purchase and review.
The BIOS 1.50 should not has this issue.
Please clear the CMOS.
Load the BIOS default to check if its resolved.

1 out of 5 eggsStuck in pre-BIOS boot loop

Pros: Nothing that I've been able to experience, yet.

Cons: I received the board in what appeared to be good physical condition. However, since piecing the build together, every attempt to boot the system results in the machine powering on for several (roughly 30) seconds before powering down briefly, then repeating. Nothing is displayed on my screen and there is no system speaker through which I can diagnose beep codes.

This sequence occurs regardless of any components that are attached to the motherboard, in any combination. I have another system with which I have been able to verify that the other hardware components are not at fault.

It seems as though I simply have a bad board.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsFirst one RMA'd, second was great.

Pros: The BIOS on this board is excellent for power users. Easy overclocking (Or even underclocking, if that's your thing).

Cons: The first one I received had a malfunctioning BIOS chip. Having it RMA'd was extremely easy, and the replacement I got worked flawlessly.

5 out of 5 eggsLove This Board!

Pros: This mobo is a great all purpose board. It doesn't a lot of extra frills I don't need, and don't want to pay for - but it does have the features I need:
DDR3 1600/1333/1066
6 x SATA 6Gb/s
Intel NIC
Supports Intel's integrated graphics on new i3/5/7 chips with HDMI out
Built in USB3

And it doesn't have a bunch of extra PCIe 3 lots for multiple graphics cards, which I have never felt the need for, even on my gaming computer or other flares that cost extra, but I don't use.

I have installed this board and the Pro3 previous generation of it in 6 or 7 computers I own between my business and home and another 3-4 computers I have helped friends and family assemble. Oldest Pro4 board I have, I purchased 11/29/2013 and is in my Sign graphic design computer with an i7 and 16gigs for ram. Also acts as the secondary back for our graphic design server. This computer is on 24x7 and used hard M-F for 8-12hrs per day, in a very dusty environment. Still going strong.. (knock on wood...)

Cons: Only con I can think of is I don't like how the SATA ports are horizontal. They get a bit to close to the HDD holder on some cases, but at the same time this lets them clear some monster graphics cards, so maybe its not a con after all.

Other Thoughts: This has become my go to mobo when I need to build a or revamp a computer. Unless a friend or family member requests something special, I only to minimal shopping for the board before I usually end up on this one.
(I do have biostar boards in my Point of sale computers, because I needed even lower specs than usual and was trying to keep the cost rock bottom, and Newegg had some on sale.)

I have ran Gigabyte, Asus, MSI, Asrock, Biostar boards in computers I have built. I have had good luck with all brands, and the companies seem to all make good boards. But Asrock repeatedly hits the perfect balance with this board between price and specs I care about, without having extra features I will never use, and don't want to pay for.
