1 out of 5 eggs2 RMAs in a Row

Pros: It fit everything great. Had all the ports I wanted and allowed great cable management.

Cons: I got one that didn't work and when I RMA'd it, I got a second that didn't work. It's definitely not my power supply (tested it with a volt meter and on my friend's computer). I wasted a lot of time dealing with this and wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please trouble shoot the mainboard whether the issue is resolved.

• Unplug the ATX power, remove all components from mainboard.
• Remove the mainboard from chassis, place it on mainboard’s box.
• Clear the CMOS.
• Reseat the CPU and heatsink fan.
• Plug the 24 + 8 or 4 pins ATX power.
• Connect the chassis power switch to mainboard, and try again.
• Populate the components one by one to test for screen POST if it gets the power.

3 out of 5 eggsH97M Pro4 will not read Force SeriesSSD

Pros: The motherboard has four memory slots, 1x PCIe 3.0, 1x PCI 2.0, six SATA 6Gb/s connectors, PS2 support, has both VGA/DVI-D video, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 and 7.1 audio. Also has connections for 5 fans, all in a Micro ATX form factor.

Cons: Does not support older SandForce Series SSD

Other Thoughts: I had recently submitted a review stating that my SSD was not functioning properly and I was going to RMA the board, which I did. As it turns out, the replacement motherboard (ASRock B85M-DGS) experienced the same issue. Since this upgrade consisted of only the MB and CPU, I assumed the MB to be at fault.

It turns out that the SSD itself ,although not technically 'defective', is not supported by this motherboard series. I discovered this after I went out and purchased a new Sandisk SSD Plus drive and had no further issues.

After everything was running smoothly, I noticed that ASRock Support chimed in with their comment, basically supporting what I had just discovered on my own. They were spot on with the root case. I only wish this was in the specifications that SandForce drivers were not supported.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

Thank you for purchase and review.
This issue is related to the compatibility issue between Intel 8/9 series chipset and SandForce old controller.
Please test with another newer SSD drive or HDD.

2 out of 5 eggsNo more overclocking

Pros: Works

Cons: I was going to give this 5 stars but as of this weeks update they have removed CPU overclocking from the UEFI. that was one of the reasons i chose this motherboard and the more expensive K series processor

5 out of 5 eggsBest Value

Pros: Truly the best value
Firmware (bios)
Very attractive
LGA 1150
DDR3 1600
sata 6
usb 3
pcie 3
5 fan headers (cpu fan + 4)

Cons: H97, not Z97

Other Thoughts: I have spent thousands of dollars with newegg over the past decade on 8 builds or so, and this is the first time I've ever felt compelled to write a review. I always utilize reviews before I make purchases, and lately I've been feeling guilty about never giving back. So here goes...

I tend to lean on the same brands that I know and trust over the years - cooler master cases, gigabyte boards, intel cpus, g.skill ram, and crucial/samsung ssds. I recently built myself a computer using the gigabyte ga-z97m-ds3h board and I got exactly what I expected - a reliable product at a competitive price (around $90). Shortly thereafter, I built my sister a new computer with a particular interest in minimizing cost. This board was at the very top of the list when I filtered all boards with the attributes listed above (in pros) by lowest price. I was a bit uneasy with the idea of trusting ASRock, as I'd never used one of their boards. I decided to try it and not only was I thoroughly impressed with the features and functionality offered by this board, but deep down I was tempted to gut my own computer and replace my gigabyte board with this. Here are the most important points imo...

1. This board accommodates connecting up to 4 case fans via the mini power connector that they use. My gigabyte board only powers 1 case fan. I had never placed any importance in this feature until accidentally stumbling upon this board with its plethora of fan headers. Only through this experience did I realize what an enormous inconvenience it is to have to attach a mini-power-to-old-school-power adapter to the end of case fans, only to then have to resort to plugging in the hideous, old school power cables to the modular psu. This instantly became a prerequisite for a mobo moving foward; I will never buy another mobo that can't support at least 3 case fans to simplify the entire build and cable management.

2. At the very best price for a mobo that supports all the latest technology formats, there's only one reason not to buy this board - you can't overclock (not Z97). That being said, overclocking isn't what it used to be. I used to overclock because you could save money on a cheaper processor and effectively make it a better model. Now you have to pay more for an unlocked cpu and then you're obligated to overclock it just to get your money's worth. I understand it from a marketing perspective, but I don't subscribe to it as a means to accomplish value anymore.

3. Last thing that absolutely has to be mentioned is the firmware. The bios is clean, responsive, user friendly, and the internet update of bios is outstanding. I had never updated a bios in my life because I've never had an issue that mandated it and I leave well-enough alone. However, the internet update made it seamless and immediate, so it was literally too easy not to do it.

I would highly recommend this board to anyone shopping for an LGA1150 board. ASRock is an encore away from dethroning gigabyte as

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Six SATA Connections, Four RAM slots, plenty of connections for chassis fans.

Cons: Motherboard DOA. I suppose that the motherboard has LEDs that should light up when power is applied, but I saw nothing.

Other Thoughts: Unfortunately, 30 days has passed from the time of purchase to the time I was able to install the motherboard, so not able to do an RMA through Newegg. Hope that ASRock Customer Support can help with a replacement.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Unfortunately, mainboard does not has LED but chassis comes with those LED light.
However, the power on can be checked with CPU fan or chassis fans.

• Connect the chassis power switch to mainboard.
• Turn on the power to check if the CPU fan spins.
• Populate the parts one by one to test for posting.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty Good

Pros: Good features, worked perfectly for me
It's a good starting and mid motherboard, I use mine in a gaming build and have not had a single problem with it

Cons: (other Thoughts)

Other Thoughts: I don't think it supports SLI, only crossfire, as it only mentions crossfire support in the description, My mistake for missing this as I would have went with a Amd Card rather than Geforce, I can't really list it as a con because It was my own fault for not reading though all of it, If the seller could let me know for sure on this matter though, would be greatly appreciated

1 out of 5 eggsWill not boot from SSD

Pros: Had all the I/O needed for upgrading to Windows 10.

Cons: Fails to recognize the SSD and will not boot consistently. When it does boot, it will fail on the next power cycle.

Other Thoughts: Mechanically, the Installation went fine, this was computer 5 of 5 that I'm doing a hardware upgrade on prior to loading Windows 10.

I have two other ASRock motherboards and they all upgraded without a hitch. I opted to get an H97 instead of the Z97 for this build, and now wish I had not.

I'm going to RMA this and get something better. I thought I found my MB of choice in ASRock, but maybe I"m mistaken. Too bad too, since the others are working just fine.

Please try with another known good new SSD drive, due to some old SSD drives used old SandForce controller.

5 out of 5 eggsGood motherboard for my needs

Pros: Looks durable.
Good price.
Recognized ssd, processor frequency and memory frequency automatically.
Boots fast.
That was the fist PC assembled by me for the last 5 years and I was impressed by HI-Res graphics in BIOS)

Cons: This motherboard has 2 video cards support but the second slot is placed too close to PSU unit in my mini-tower case so its impossible to install 2 "fat" 2 slot video cards in small case. Probably I paid for the feature that I will not use.

5 out of 5 eggsH97M PRO4

Pros: Asrock is In My Experience (since 1985) is one of the BEST Motherboard Manufacturers available to end users. I have been using them since Shortly after them entering the market in the Early 2000's...Aside from them basically relying on Google Translate in the early days for Support, they were un-surpassed. Both theyre quality, functionality, and Support of the motherboards they sell is unparalelled. Since I have only ever purchases motherboards from them I cannot speak on other products.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: buy this board.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfection

Pros: This is my 5th or 6th ASRock mobo, and I've loved every one of 'em. They've all worked perfectly for me and have been super reliable. I gave this one a G3258 3.2GHz CPU and didn't even bother trying to overclock, since it's more than fast enough for my wife's light-duty PC.

Cons: Whenever I see disparaging comments about mobos in these reviews, I ask myself how much the reviewers really know about proper installation and setup. There are lots of ways to foul up a fresh motherboard - jamming the 24-pin power connector into place without holding the board underneath, where there's no support, is just one tiny example out of many. Based on my experience, if you show proper respect for their delicate circuitry, ASRock motherboards will serve you very well.
