5 out of 5 eggsPentium K OC Board

Pros: I've been looking for a board like this since last year when I bought a Pentium G3258, then realized a decent board and CPU cooler would quickly make this build more expensive than the "Budget Overclocker's Dream System" I envisioned at first. After much research I realized that H97 boards usually have overclocking potential, even though they're not supposed to (per Intel's artificial marketing segment rules). This board seemed a cut above the others, due to the 8-pin CPU power connector and the massive VRM heatsink. I'm not disappointed either, this is a solid, stable board with decent features and good driver support. Easily achieved a one-click 4.4 GHz using the "Non-Z OC" buttons. It set my vcore over 1.4v, which sounds dangerous, but temps were only in the 70's during AIDA64 stress test. This board can supply the necessary power without crashing. Amazing...Asrock is at the top of their game lately, they are my new brand to watch.

Cons: The only thing I didn't like was the lack of adaptive mode for the vcore settings, so when overclocked, the vcore stays at the same high level even when the multiplier drops to 8 during system idle. Also keeps idle temps high. The Z97 boards offer better control of such factors.

Other Thoughts: Well, I guess I did finally manage to build my "Budget Overclocker's Dream System" without breaking the bank. About $500 spent, plus I threw in my old GTX 660 Ti, so now it's a "Budget Overclocker's Gaming System", and a lot of fun for the money spent. The H55 120mm radiator is really overkill, but was a steal at $55, and i was no longer using it to cool the 660 Ti, so it was just gathering dust, as was the old 128GB 840 Pro which finally found a good home...

1 out of 5 eggsTurns on by itself

Pros: Great board and great price.

Cons: Computer will turn on by itself. Only way to keep it shut down is to pull the power plug or pull ethernet cable. It sounds like an issue with Wake on Lan however even when it is turned off in BIOS the computer will still turn on. If ASRock can help me fix this it would be a 5 star review but this is an issue I cannot deal with for too much longer. There are several threads on the internet of other users having this exact same issue with no resolution so it may be a defect with the board.

Other Thoughts: If ASRock can help me solve this issue I will adjust the review.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

5 out of 5 eggsNice and compact uATX MB

Pros: This MB is nice and compact yet delivers all essential features. Easy to fit into a micro ATX case. Good price too.

Cons: None discovered.

Other Thoughts: Using an i3 4150 CPU, I built this for my daughter to play her games. Installing Win 7 on an SSD produced a system that is surprisingly fast. And, it draws only 25-30 watts in the process.

3 out of 5 eggs2/3 Perfect

Pros: Ridiculously fast boot, excellent menus with overclocking features. Great functions, low cost.

Cons: Bought three of them for three identical builds. First two worked perfectly, but the third has issues with the FANtastic fan controls. I can't say why, but the third build just won't lower its fan speed at lower temperatures like the other two. Emailed back and forth with ASRock about the issue 3 times, never getting a direct answer. Would otherwise give them 5 eggs.

Other Thoughts: The space between the RAM and the processor are tight when going with heatsinked RAM and a large size CPU cooler. Specifically, GSkill Ripjaws X (16Gb) with Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please turn the power off, clear the CMOS.
Load the BIOS default.
Test with another cooling fan.

4 out of 5 eggsNice board without useless features

Pros: - Great with my new i5 Haswell-Refresh (Work out of the box)
- No background noise like my previous MB
- Nice SATA port orientation
- Support Crossfire X

Cons: - AsRock UEFI GUI is not as user-friendly as some other like Gigabyte or ASUS
- Mail-In Rebate is a joke
- Only one SATA cable
- Some problems with Intel driver for the NIC on Winows 7 and 8

Other Thoughts: Great board for the price!

4 out of 5 eggsMOBO Review for ASRock H97M

Pros: This motherboard was easy to install (except CPU, see cons) and easy to set up. The ASRock Mobo Interface was EASY to use and access and frankly, made this thing almost idiot proof.

Cons: The processor gave me a hard time closing and it turns out the plastic case on the outside of the MOBO was on a little too tight. I took it off instead of letting it pop off like they say in the manual and it went on easy but it made me worry about the MOBO breaking for a bit. Really not entirely worth an egg being deducted but 5 says "perfect" and it wasn't quite "perfect." If I could give 4 and 1/2 eggs, I would.

5 out of 5 eggsAsrock H97M Pro4

Pros: My first Asrock board and I am impressed. It's stable, packed with features, and fast.

Cons: The only con (not really a con) is the power fan header is located at the very top of the board next to the cpu fan headers. In some situations you will need a fan with a long cable or an extender.

Other Thoughts: I got this mb for a client who spent most of her budget on a 27" ips Ultra Sharp Monitor. This board was inexpensive and had the features she needed. It runs the monitor at 2560 x 1440 using hdmi and Intel HD 4600 on chip graphics. Saved some money not needing a dedicated gpu. The install went clean and cabling was tidy. The software that came with the board seems stable and somewhat useful.
