5 out of 5 eggsAwesome low power mobo

Pros: This thing has great low power consumption. I used a bench DC power supply with a PicoPSU-120 to measure. At Linux idle with a single 8-chip DIMM, GigE up, 1920x1200 DVI up, and a HDD in power-down mode, this thing consumed 6.3W.

I tried a couple while true; busy loops and the power consumption was 8.9W.

Blanking the display and bringing down Ethernet gave me an idle of 5.2W.

I like how it has 3 PCIe slots.

Cons: Obviously performance is much slower than a real Haswell or such. But with a ceiling of ~9W I really like the performance I get for a router or media center or such.

Other Thoughts: Most ATX power supplies will have significantly more at-wall power consumption than my measurement. Even some 80+Gold units were double according to killawatt.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible boards

Pros: Low price price

Cons: Horrible board!!! This boards could not properly play youtube videos at 720p it skips and freezes I went to Vudu for testing at it crashed. The cpu runs peeks at 100% even when I turn off services in the background. The included cpu heat sink is just plain trash. I thought about adding a video card but quickly change my mid. Do not but this thrash is not worth your time and money.

Other Thoughts: Never again will buy all in one boards

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please load the BIOS default.
Install fresh Windows and mainboard's drivers to try (required backup DATA before installing Windows).
In some cases, not enough memory will affect the performance due to using HDD’s space for virtual memory.
If you have any technical support inquiry, please contact us at http://www.ASRock.com/Support/tsd.asp. We will assist you shortly.

Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsInexpensive Ubuntu media center build

Pros: Simply works great. I love the ability to fine tune the fan speeds in the UEFI settings utility.

Cons: None whatsoever.

Other Thoughts: I built this using Ubuntu 14.04.1 (flashback w/metacity UI) since it's supported until April 2019 with no HWE EOL hassle as will be encountered with 14.04.2. No driver issues whatsoever. I just used 1 4GB stick of G.SKILL F3-1333C9S-4GIS which is more than enough for the intended purpose.

4 out of 5 eggsServes the purpose

Pros: Pretty responsive for a cheap all-in-one MB

Cons: Limited SATA ports, linux graphics drivers.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this to build a cheap Debian box. Overall, the motherboard performs pretty well, with no delay performing normal computing tasks. The onboard graphics worked to a point- I could load X in Debian, but would get blank TTYs. I ended up buying an NVIDIA GT 610 card. I suspect driver support will improve over time. Everything else worked fine.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well for simple tasks

Pros: Simple, cheap, quite. Dont expect to do accelerated graphics or much anything beyond web/video/word processing. Many of the embedded solutions have 204 SO-DIMM slots which is a deal breaker for me. Our computer lab has several 240 pin sticks laying around and worked well. I would recommend spending the extra 10$ on the Q1900M however, it is the quad core variant of this board.

Cons: None if you understand what this board is for

Other Thoughts: Depends on what you expect to do with your build. If you understand this isnt an i7 with bleeding edge performance than youll be happy with this board but I would still recommend the quad core version (Q1900M)

5 out of 5 eggsStable and reliable

Pros: I have been using this in my home NAS. I threw 2GB of RAM in it, and it is simply amazing. No stability problems, and for what it is doing it is amazingly fast.

I also like that it has full sized RAM slots, many embedded solutions dont include that feature.

Cons: The CPU heatsink gets hot if it does not have good airflow. Not a problem in my case, but it is something to keep in mind.

Other Thoughts: I would definitely buy this product again

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: HDMI+DVI+VGA. Has 1 PCI Express 2.0 x16 if you want to upgrade video and 2 PCI Express 2.0 x1 if you need to add SATA or audio cards. Fired up out of the box. I also purchased a G.SKILL AEGIS 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Desktop Memory Model F3-1333C9S-4GIS with this board. Works flawless. This board has more features and cost less than other boards with same CPU. I'm getting a second one for a Media Center for my TV.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I was worried about been fan-less but it doesn't even get warm. Awesome buy for budget PC.
