1 out of 5 eggsWorks when it works

Pros: -Worked well in the 2 months when I had it
-provides most of the connections and frills that one wants in a miniatx board

Cons: -stopped working after 2 months

Other Thoughts: For the two months I had this motherboard it was working great. Then after that it just completely died on me. After following the typical process of elimination (no beeps or POST beeps, removal of RAM, one RAM in the slot, removal of gpu's etc list goes on) I determined that the motherboard was dead. Contacted Newegg about the issue, and as we know after the 30 day period they have a very hands off approach so they directed me to Asrock support. I am currently in the process of RMA'ing the motherboard which is under warranty. I will update this review once this issue further progresses, but I am not optimistic I have heard horror stories about the Asrock RMA process.

1 out of 5 eggsFirst order from newegg and motherboard broken

Pros: None arrived broken

Cons: Mobo arrived with broken and bent cpu pins

Other Thoughts: I believe this is more on asrocks lack of quality control than newegg will be returning and grabbing a different mobo

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. ASRock mainboards are fully tested to assure the quality.
The CPU socket has been covered with protection CAP to avoid damage the pins.

5 out of 5 eggsSuper

Pros: UEFI BIOS is very spiffy and super easy to navigate. Great fan control because the percentages can be easily set and really do the job. Secure boot setup is a breeze. All Win 10 drivers were onsite for download the morning Win 10 launched. Wow $30 rebate! Feels like stealing it -such a nice board! Large for a Miro ATX, which I very much like. Runs Win 10 Pro perfectly.

Cons: LOL

Other Thoughts: More for you money by far than other brands. I've tried all brands. Need support You dial the number, get a real person and she connects you to support.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: A nice state of the art mATX board that replaced an HP/Asus media center PC/MB circa 2006.
Six SATA ports very useful for expandability
3 PCIe 16x slots very nice
supports SLI and Crossfire - the reason I got this board for future gaming upgrade.

Cons: The right-angle SATA sockets are awakward. Every cable has to do a U-turn to get to my devices.
Win7 install did not find the Killer ethernet port. Had to dnld and install the May 2015 driver from the ASRock website - worked after the installation.
I didn't think either of these issues were enough to deduct an egg.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for some backward compatability with PCI boards or IDE devices - this board does not have it. At least an IDE port would be nice. If t his is important to you, a better fit would be the asrock 97m pro4, but you will lose the SLI/crossfire capability.
I opted for the 'future'....the system seems to scream with no hickups.
The new build fired up immediately: I5 3.3GHz cpu, 16gb corsair vengance memory, XFX 650W PS. Win8 dropped in w/o a hitch, Virtual Box is hosting Win7 and Ubuntu - all running smoothly.
System is lightly loaded-no PCIe boards....plan for future SLI graphics card.
Hope I don't experience the infant mortality of either the MB or PS as others have reported....fingers crossed.

3 out of 5 eggs1st board DOA

Pros: Well starting off the board looks beautiful and has all the ports and everything I need. It feels well built and everything worked properly albeit after I got my replacement

Cons: My first board I got was DOA. Was very depressing for me, but Newegg's RMA was fast as soon as ups got it to them.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Good power phases for OC? check.
SLI Possible? check.
4 ram slots? check.
more rear IO Ports than you really need? naturally.
Shiny? totally.
Waterproof? ehh, let's not tempt fate here.

Cons: Really tight for larger cards if you want to run a SLI-setup.

No system speaker (really? I have to add on a speaker?)

This is the big one - worked perfectly for about 5 months, then, randomly and without warning one day, would refuse to POST. After rummaging around and finding/attaching a speaker, I was greeted with the delightful 2-beep parity error code.
Out of desperation, I ended up updating the BIOS to the most recent version, which somehow fixed the issue. Not sure what went south, but, in all the MBs I've owned, I've never had one get fussy with its BIOS out of the blue like that.

5 out of 5 eggsMighty Mite

Pros: Strong board, built well, 8+2 phases on a micro platform. I can tell it likes my 4790K. I was going for the full-size version (Z97 OC Formula) with all gimmicks, bells and whistles but the smaller Z97M is good enough for me and way less expensive.

Cons: When the board overclocks itself, it tends to over-volt. 1.26v@4.3Gb is a little high voltage-wise. Heat is a factor especially on a 4790K and I want to be as efficient as possible. Best bet is to overclock it manually.

Other Thoughts: Extremely fast shipping, I ordered the board Thursday morning and received it Friday afternoon. It was free shipping so I thought it was on the "slow-boat", 4 to 7 day shipping plan. Nice surprise when I received the board a little over 24-hours after I ordered it.

4 out of 5 eggsYup Yup

Pros: Price

UEFI

Looks

8+2 Power phase

M2

Overclocking

Cons: Stop

Other Thoughts: I love the Asrock UEFI, so I stick with them. Over clocked my i7 4790K to 4.8ghz .... I backed it off a little until the paste cures etc. Gold looks nice, plus has M2. It's gotta be the best motherboard out there for under $150.

5 out of 5 eggsASRock Z97M OC Formula

Pros: Booted up on first try, no problems whatsoever. Instantly recognized the M.2 as the boot drive, I could install Windows 8.1 to it without having to use a thumb drive or adjust anything in the UEFI. When I put in my ram, it automatically used the XMP profile for it, again, no adjustments needed. Overall, very happy with this board. Haven't tried overclocking the processor yet, but I'm sure this board will handle it just like it handled everything else.

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: This is a spartan board, as far as extra features. If you're not comfortable messing with jumper settings to clear the cmos, or doing your own diagnostics if something goes wrong (no beep codes or led warnings on this board) then this may not be the board for you.
