1 out of 5 eggsUpdate to DOA board

Pros: Absolutely zero

Cons: Do not purchase this board unless you want an endless headache. I have built about 50 pc's in the last 5 years and never gone through anything like this.

I purchased one for a build I was doing for a customer. It arrived and on my test bench would not boot. At first I thought this was due to the significant warp in the board. Even the I/O shield would not line up correctly. I went through every troubleshooting step I could find and it was a no go. Being on a tight deadline I purchased a replacement with next day air and planned on reselling the first after it was RMA'ed. Another 2-3 hours of troubleshooting and come to realize it will also not boot. Keep in mind im $1500 in the hole for these boards at this point. With a replacement only return policy.

This motherboard only supports 16Gb memory modules on the latest 1.5 bios. INCLUDING the ones on the QVL. I happened to have a 16Gb stick of samsung server memory and a low end xeon that was on the QVL. It would not boot

I contacted asrock via phone 3 weeks ago and was assured I would have bios chips in my hand by then end of the week..... Still holding my breath. 2 more attempted contacts to asrock have failed in any response so far expect the generic we have received your support request.

I will have to purchase an 8Gb stick of ddr4 just to be able to resell these boards as used. Thanks asrock.

Other Thoughts: I have rma'ed boards in the past with both msi and asus. Both have gone well and eventually got good reviews from me. This experience has really been the worst from any manufacturer I have had.

I ended up going with an x99 deluxe. Came with the latest bios out of the box instead of the launch bios like asrock keeps shipping with, 5 versions out of date.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
The mainboard supports 16GB ECC memory with E5 Xeon. Especially on QVL list.
However, we do glad to send the updated BIOS chip if its having compatible issue with memory.

5 out of 5 eggsThe perfect RAID motherboard

Pros: Able to set 7 x RAID 1 arrays. Still 4 ports left of Intel chipset for other drives. Stable and practical, easy to set up. Motherboard is a work-horse when paired with 5960X. Easily brought 16GB CL15 Dominators (MD16GX4M4B3200C15) to 3200 MHz, and cpu to 4.2GHZ by changing the multiplier. Perfectly stable for work! Simple BIOS interface, easy to work with. Also, Asrock makes the best boards for WOL, unlike others.

Cons: LSI 3008 controller cannot be disabled on bios to skip POST, unlike the X79 Extreme 11 board. Annoying, but tolerable. 3008 controller is only capable of raid 0,1, 10, but for me RAID 1 is all I need.

Other Thoughts: I upgraded from the Asrock X79 Extreme 11 to this one, though the X79 has the same 3008 controller. I have a small medical billing business, and run my database, engine, and all shared drives from this PC. Due to separate environments, I have to run many raid arrays to accommodate separate environments to my clients. This board is just a beautiful combination of the X99 chipset and the LSI 3008 controller. I'm forever hooked to the Extreme boards!

1 out of 5 eggsUnbelievable!

Pros: None

Cons: Everything

Other Thoughts: I can't believe it. ASRock responded to my last review about the X99 Extreme11 by directing me to a cable that is rated to handle only 6 Gb/s bandwidth like that solves the problem.

The X99 Extreme11 is advertized as having a LSI SAS 3008 SCSI controller on board which is supposed to allow for 12 Gb/s bandwidth but the seven-pin SATA connector will only allow 6 Gb/s. The whole reason they are charging over 600.00 dollars for the MOBO is because of the LSI SAS 3008 SCSI controller on board which is obviously completely useless because of the seven-pin SATA connectors limited bandwidth.

There are NO SAS-3 cables on the market that have a SFF-8482 connector on one end and a seven-pin SATA connector on the other end that supports 12 GB/s bandwidth. It doesn’t exist.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Ashton,

We do the test HGST SAS3 SSD on X99 Extreme11 with SATA to SFF-8482 cable, and the read speed can reach around 1.013GB/s.
It meets SAS3 spec., please refer to the attached picture to check the benchmark result.

1 out of 5 eggsYOU CAN'T MAKE THIS S*&T UP

Pros: NONE

Cons: SAS-3

Other Thoughts: The ASRock X99 Extreme11 advertizes itself as a MOBO that has 8 SAS-3 ports on it. However the SAS-3 ports are the same form factor as a seven-pin SATA connector. In the MOBO manual it states "For connecting SAS HDDs, please contact SAS data cable dealers" because ASRock does not include the SAS-3 cables necessary. So I contacted all the SAS-3 cable manufactures in the USA and they all said they have never heard of a SAS-3 cable that had a SFF-8482 connector on one end and a seven-pin SATA connector on the other end that supports 12 GB/s. So I e-mailed ASRock support and asked them if they knew where I could get a SAS-3 cable like this and they never responded. So I did a Google search to see if anyone was having the same problem and I found one other person that was.

At first I was extremely angry but after a few days I found this whole incident to be hilarious. I mean, can you imagine a company doing something like this. LOL!!!!!!!!!

I would never buy anything from ASRock ever again and I don't recommend anybody buying anything from them either. I will stick with and recommend to others more reputable brands like ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI etc.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Ashton,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible board, Terrible Customer Service

Pros: Fast when it was booted

Cons: - Took 10-15 attempts to make it through the bootloader every reboot/start.
- Fast Boot / Ultra Fast boot just doesn't work.

Other Thoughts: Took a chance with ASRock, wish I hadn't.

After nothing but problems with this board, I contacted their tech support, who had me try one thing. After that failed, they then told me I had "a compatible problem" and I should return the board for a refund.

I won't be buying an ASRock again, nor would I recommend it.

I returned it and bought an ASUS.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
We will be more than happy to help to resolve the issue that you having on mainbaord.
However, the Ultra Fast boot required UEFI Windows installation.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board

Pros: No hiccups, stuck the following in it and flipped it on:

64GB - G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 Series (8 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2400 (PC4-19200)

Intel Core i7-5960X Haswell-E 8-Core 3.0GHz

NVIDIA GTX 980 GIGABYTE GV-N980G1 GAMING-4GD 4GB

1TB SAMSUNG 850 Pro SSD

NZXT Kraken X61 water cooler

CORSAIR AX1500i CP-9020057-NA 1500W

LIAN LI PC-A79B Full Tower

Running Windows 7

No configuration and no messing around. Nice documentation (paper manual). With a board like this you need a schematic of everything that is detailed enough to make sense of. It has both a schematic and separate listing with descriptions of every port/connector. No head scratching

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: If you want to bottlenecks and to never have to worry about internal storage again, this is the board for you...and the case and power supply as well.

3 out of 5 eggsYou will have to decide what you want it for before you buy.

Pros: More than a year on it's predecessor. Lots of features. More than any other motherboard on the market supports. To clarify previous comments, this board supports both i7 and Xeon processors. The memory you can install depends on which CPU you select. The i7 will allow 64GB of memory. The Xeon will support 128GB of ECC un-buffered memory/RDIMM.

Cons: Read the manual before you buy the board. Using one function disables other functions on the board. The Pcie x16 across 4 slots is due to two Plex chips which quadruples the Pcie lanes (each one doubles). The LSI chip does the same thing with the Sata ports. It is similar to Plex in that it doubles the supporting lanes to the Sata ports giving you more Sata ports. All of these enhancements give you something but at a cost. You will notice just a touch of lag on a x16/x16/x16/x16 sli or CF array. The same can be said for the 8 extra Sata ports. They will not give you the same speeds that the chipset ports will. You can't keep doubling without cost to performance. The final point that I want to make is for all you quad video card enthusiasts. If you populate the last x16 Pcie slot you will have an issue with the ports underneath the video card. You will need to purchase a Pcie riser or forget using the USB2 headers and even the front port audio header. They stand too tall with something plugged in and your card will not seat properly in the slot. Any Start, Reset, even the Dr Debug display will be completely hidden and inaccessible unless you remove the last video card every time. Every board that I have found that supports x16/x16/x16/x16 has the same issue. Your H100i or power supply's usb header is unusable because it stands off the last video card not allowing it to completely seat. Read the manual / download it before you buy and mount the hardware you intend on using in their proper places to see what you lose. This board cannot support everything on it at once. Watch for the ram specs. If you go for 3000 MHs don't expect to achieve it with 64GB all lanes full.

Other Thoughts: You can overclock but because you have so much running it will inherently be more unstable not allowing you to get the highest scores possible. This board says you can have your cake and eat it... I'm telling you that you won't receive the full cake. Manuals are made for a reason and the internet has a lot of testing and scoring sites. For the most part the board is good but if you are an extreme overclocker... You will be somewhat disappointed to not quite get what everyone else achieves. Close but no cigar unless you disable some of the perks while testing. You cannot run a 16 drive Raid 0 array. The most you can get are 6 drives in one array. The SAS/ Sata ports might but for a speed premium.

1 out of 5 eggsextremely disappointed

Pros: the potential features

Cons: like many here i planned to use the asrock x99 extreme 11 as the backbone of a massive complex pc. i purchased the best and most advanced components any pc could take. 2: r9 295x2 sapphire graphics cards; a samsung 941 m.2 ultra drive; intel 5960x cpu; evga 1600 psu. i planned to overclock all this with a massive custom dual water cooling loop. this motherboard cant take it. the problem is probably bios related. Asrock has only one version of the bios from the release date in october of 2014. the 5960x constantly throttles. i cannot get the 5960x to run at stock speed. each time i setup any speed above default.( runs cpu at 1200mhz:this is unacceptable) the system boots into windows 7 64bit and throttles the cpu. the only overclock that somewhat works is the bios 4.2 mhz preset. but it throttles the cpu. when you shut down the system and reboot the system doesnt reload and crashes. all i can do is reset the bios to get the system to reboot. i have reseated every component. i reseated the cpu. no good. i reseated the gpu's and moved them around to different slots, no good. i reseated the ram and moved the ram to different slots and different comfigurations. no good.
in the bios any adjustments of any kind dont work. i have tried enabling and disabling all and any settings that could be used to adjust a cpu or gpus to no avail. this is not my first rodeo. this is my 5th custom build over the last 5 years. i know what i am doing. from building a qx9770 system, i7-950 system, i7 2600k system, xeon x3680 system i have never had this problem. , i feel Asrock has ripped my heart out and sold me a bill of goods. i am so disappointed with this purchase. the conclusion i have reached is i invested $xxx(YOU KNOW THE PRICE) dollars for nothing. A dead brick.

Other Thoughts: all i can say is "DONT BUY THIS JUNK"
i have already purchased another motherboard from newegg. another manufacturer and purchased a 1 year warranty..
BUYER BEWARE!!!!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please download and update the BIOS at link below and try following setting.
1. Disable “Intel Speed Step Technology”

5 out of 5 eggsSimply Amazing

Pros: Board is amazing.
Great support for Memory.
Lots of hard drive expandability
2 M.2 slots
Works out of the box without needing BIOS updates, etc...

Cons: Limited OC support (not a con for me, as I don't OC)

Other Thoughts: This is the best board out there with the X99 chipset.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well in Quad crossfire build

Pros: Four PCI-E X16 slots
Ridiculous disk capacity
socket 2011v3

Cons: -Bios layout not ideal for overclocking. Vcore is not in the voltage menu.
-Board pwr HDD light and Reset jumpers need to be moved for quad GPU configurations. I had to bend the pins at a 45 degree angle to clear the last VGA card.

Other Thoughts: I've got a pretty unusual build.
5960x OC @ 4.5GHz water cooled
2x 7970 DCII OC 1200 MHz water cooled
2x R9 280x OC 1200 MHz water cooled
16GB Gskill DDR4 Ram @ 3000MHz
I went to this board from an Asrock X79 extreme11 for the DDR4 ram and 2011v3 socket because my game rig was cpu bottlenecked. This was just the ticket. After wrestling with the bios to actually find Vcore settings I was able to get my system stable at 4500 Mhz with 3000 Mhz ram and all VGA cards cranked to 1200MHz. The water cooling required for this kind of thing is a little extreme however so its not for the faint of heart. I use it for 5760x1080 eyefinity gaming on 40 inch displays and media creation.
