2 out of 5 eggsThe D1 memory slot seems doesn't work

Pros: It's a solid MB in general for X99 and 8 memory slots.

Cons: I install a 4X16G DDR4 memory kit, but the PC doesn't post. The error code is B7 (or 67) which suggests the memory issue.
Then I tried to remove one memory, and I found it can post if I don't install memory in D1 regardless which 3 of 4memory are installed in A1/B1/C1. So it's not the memory issue. And if I install one in D1, and remove anyone in A1 or B1 or C1, it still doesn't post.
It'd be really a mess and time-wasting to return MB :(

3 out of 5 eggs4*16G DDR4 doesn't work on my MB

Pros: It's a solid MB, a good value for X99 w/ 8 memory slots.

Cons: But it doesn't post when I install my 8X16G DDR4 mem kit. The error code is B7. It seems there is something wrong with D1 slot, as I install any 3 of the kit in A1/B1/C1, the machine can post, and shows 48G ram, but as long as I install the forth in D1, it stopped with B7. Actually as long as I installed in D1, the machine won't post. Is there any configuration I need to change to enable Quad Channel?

4 out of 5 eggsX99 Work Station

Pros: Intel X99 is out and ASRock in true fashion, has produce yet another fine board. The ASRock X99 WS LGA 2011 v3 is the server grade option. It can be powered by Intel Core i7 and Xeon2011 V3 Processers (LGA 2011-3) So previous 2011 CPU will not work. It arrived in a handled box and great packing. SLI bridge and SATA cable and a basic I/O cover. With so many features I'm not going to list them all but first off the board is big. It's a EATX and is about 3/4 in wider than a full sized ATX board. It barely fits in my Corsair D550 case. The board is thick and straight with a Black PBC and baby blue heat sinks. With many heat pipes and great power control it's a Work Station dream machine. Very attractive and well laid out. I ran my test PC with a i7 5820K and 32 Gb of Gskill DDR4 2133 ram. The layout is busy but not crowded. 5 PCIe 3.0 x16, 1 PCIe 2.0 x16 and a M.2 slot take up half the board. That's 6 PCIe full size slots. 4-Way SLI/CrossFireX at x16/16/16/16. With the i7 5820 I have installed only provides 28 PCIe lanes and with no PLX chip it limits 4-way Crossfire lanes. Also the Ultra M.2 slot requires 3 lanes not just two so keep that in mind if you're going with this CPU and a M.2 drive.

Cons: The build quality is great. However the two four pin Molex power plugs for preliminary power if all four PCIe slots are occupied are in odd locations. One right in the middle of the board the other at a right angle at the bottom of the board. It would have been nice to see both at the bottom. No SATA express, No PLX chip so lanes are limited. It really should have a PLX chip.

Other Thoughts: Overall the board ran great. I only ran one GPU a GTX780 so my test were limited. All benchmarks were where they should be Fire Strike was 9250 and its passed Aida64 stability test The system felt snappy and video encoding was like butter. I was able to get a 24hr stable over clock with the i7 5820 @ 4.4Ghz 1.31v and that's with the DDR4 at 2133. At 4.5Ghz it would run but under load temps were above 76c and with a AIO water cooling I couldn't push it any further. The memory speed was a little temperamental but I was able to get the speed it was rated for. This is a nice board, very stable and basic work station features with no extra bells and whistles

5 out of 5 eggsFast and expensive

Pros: The ASRock X99 WS comes in a big box with a carrying handle. Inside you’ll find 3 SLI bridges and 4 black SATA cables. There is also a cable for the HDD Server, a small screw and a rather plain I/O shield. The shield is unadorned, unpadded aluminum like you get with a cheap motherboard and not at all befitting motherboard royalty like this. I know this is a workstation board and in a business setting a fancy shield would be out of place but how about providing another one for us home users?
The motherboard comes nestled in a foam holder, tie wrapped in for safety and placed in an anti-static bag. First impression is that it’s a bigger than normal board and done in a restful black and blue color scheme with muted gold capacitors and gray 90 degree SATA ports… lots of them. Your first impression is tasteful quality. The black PCB seems unusually thin for a motherboard this complex and seems perhaps a bit fragile. This seems particularly precarious when installing the board as I got a chorus of cracks and creaks that scared me I might have broken something. However the board seemed unaffected so it may have been simply my cautious nature.
I’m lucky I have good friends because this board requires a new processor and expensive memory. My good friends Mike, who is an early adopter and has more money than me, let me use his core i7 5930K processor and 16 gigs of Corsair DDR4 memory for my review. Of course he stayed to make sure I didn’t fry anything and helped me with getting the board up and running. Here’s a shout out to you, Mike. I owe you a big one.
I will mention here this board will also take a Xeon processor and EEC memory if you’re into the whole workstation thing but now you’re talking about truly stratospheric costs but I suppose it’s nice to know you can plop one in if you want to.
In addition to the processor and memory I used a SanDisk Extreme SSD and my trusty Gigabyte 4 Gig memory nVidia 760 video card. The X99 WS board will take 4 videocards easily but I’ve only got the one so if you[re looking for reviews of 4 way SLI then you’re reading the wrong review. Everything installed fine and Windows loaded without a problem. I did have some problems with the drivers disk in that it was particularly finicky and the machine didn’t want to reboot after the driver installation on several of the drivers. I had this some problem on an AsRock X97 Fatality board so I guess it’s just how it is with them. The system runs perfectly now that I have the drivers installed so I’m not going to spend a lot of time grousing.
The BIOS is standard AsRock fare and the same as the X97 Fatality board except it’s blue instead of red. The BIOS is actually a delight to use and has more options then I’ll be able to explore in a lifetime. I tried using the XMP for my Corsair memory and it froze up the computer. I tried several times and no luck so I updated the BIOS and it worked this time.
The system was fast and I mean fast. It seeme

Cons: No real cons although theX99 WS board was borderline flaky. The driver’s disk install freezing up and the XMP giving me problems and not being able to use the OC Tweaker are small things but leave a bad taste in your mouth when you consider the price of this board. All things considered it’s not a lot to gripe about and will probably be fixed with future BIOS updates. I don’t particularly care for the uninspired software and think this board deserves more but that’s a personal preference so I won’t ding ASRock for that. Really hate the plain jane I/O shield but I understand why they did it I suppose.

Other Thoughts: First off let me say this is way too much board for me. I use my computers a lot but when I look at what I do with them I’m not really a power user. I don’t encode video all day or render elaborate Adobe Premier videos or even rip CDs. I’m afraid my needs are much more prosaic. I spend a lot of time on the Internet although I have never once used Facebook or Twitter. I download a lot of stuff over BitTorrent and I play single player First Person Shooter games. My main machine uses a Haswell Core i5 processor and no video card. I have what I think is a first class gaming machine that uses a Z-97 motherboard and a Core i7 processor and an nVidia 760. It plays all my games easily at 2560 X 1440. I’m not a frame fanatic and usually don’t even check to see what FPS I’m getting. I say this because this X99 board is like buying a Ferrari after driving a Chevy. This is the big leagues.
Sometimes you have to stand back and look at what you do with your system and what you really need as opposed to what you want. X99 involves a minimum outlay of about a grand just for the motherboard, processor and memory. It makes a wickedly fast system and gives you bragging rights over most of your friends. Let me tell you this is a cutting edge system but at the end of the day I just don’t need it. My computing needs are really very pedestrian. I use Microsoft Word and Excel and I surf the Internet (Probably too much if I’m honest). I do a lot of Bittorrent downloading and I burn the occasional Blu-ray or DVD. I have a vanilla Haswell i5 in my production machine and even though I sprang for a Maximus VII motherboard I don’t overclock. I don’t even have a video card in the system. My gaming system is more robust with an ASUS Z97-Pro and a core i7 but I make due with a nVidia 760 video card. It’s not the fastest thing out there but it’s fast enough for me. This X99 system I’m writing this on is a beast that’s meant to chew through video editing or designing nuclear reactors. It’s too much system for most people.
Bottom line this is a good board and that goodness makes the few niggles I have not so significant. The board is big and gaudy and expensive but darn I suppose if you need this kind of power it’s worth it. I’ve had to give back the processor and memory but already I’m thinking about selling my second gaming system to purchase my own Haswell-E processor and DDR4 memory to put into the ASRTock X99-WS motherboard.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid board packed with features

Pros: A solid high-quality board on Intel's latest X99 Chipset, with 8 DDR4 memory slots supporting up to 64GB or 128GB of RAM.

This board is packed with hardware, with 6 PCI Express slots (supporting 4-way CrossFireX/SLI), 10 6Gb/s SATA ports, Dual LAN, M.2 x4 support, and every connector you can think of. ASRock piled everything into this board.

It would be an excellent choice for someone who needs the best, in either a workstation paired with a good 8 or 14 core Xeon processor, or for a high-end gaming computer with a new Haswell-E i7.

Cons: This is a new chipset, and as such some people are experiencing instability problems with certain kinds of DDR4 RAM. Make sure the first thing you do when you get your new motherboard is to go and update the BIOS to ensure the best chance of having a stable build.

Other Thoughts: Note that this motherboard is in the newer LGA 2011-v3 socket, which is not backwards compatible with LGA 2011 processors! It also supports DDR4, which is similarly not backwards compatible with DDR3. So if you're coming from an older platform you'll need a new processor and new RAM for this board.

3 out of 5 eggsSolid hardware, but OC'ing problems derail it

Pros: Solid build, plenty of connections (though it could use more than 2 USB 2.0 headers), board is well laid out, BIOS is nice and user friendly, it's a pretty blue color. :)

Cons: Like another reviewer said, overclocking the memory or CPU results in system-freezing instability. There have been two BIOS updates so far and there has been 'improvement' if you count being able to POST and freeze up in Windows rather than just not POST at all. I've seen others complaining about this issue, it's obviously not an isolated incident.

My rig:

Asrock x99 Extreme6 MB
Intel Haswell-E 5930K CPU
G Skill Ripjaw 4 PC4-21300 2666hz DDR4 RAM (4x4GB)
Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler
Plextor M5Pro Xtreme 512GB SSD
Mushkin Enhanced Chronos 480GB SSD
2xWD Black 1TB HDD
WD Black 4 TB HDD
2xEVGA GTX 980 SC GPU in SLI
Soundblaster ZxR sound card
EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 P2 Power Supply

Other Thoughts: I'm super disappointed that the Extreme 6 has not come through for me, I had an Asrock Extreme 4 with a 3770K and it was brilliant. I have tried overclocking the CPU with only one stick of RAM, one GPU and no soundcard, same result. I have faith that Asrock will fix this eventually, but for now I can't comfortably recommend it to someone looking to move up to x99.

3 out of 5 eggsGood But Unstable for RAM XMP profiles or OC

Pros: Great board and with all of the endurance features of a server / enterprise class piece of hardware... that is the reason I bought it

Cons: Unstable when trying to use the ram's XMP memory profile. I have 16GB corsair 2800Mhz, which is XMP profile 1. When I use this profile, I can post and get into windows but if I put a load on the system, it will hang, bsod etc.

If I try to overclock my CPU at ALL, I get the same, hangs, BSOD etc

I think I'm going to get another board because I want something stable, even if I don't overclock my CPU I want to be able to use my RAM at its 2800Mhz setting.

ASRock support did provide me a beta bios, version 1.33, which resolved an issue that OC'd the CPU to 4.4Ghz when selecting XMP1, but the system is still too unstable for me.

ASRock support is trying, but I am almost out of my RMA period so going to swap for something else.

Other Thoughts: This is in:
Core I7-5930
Corsair hydro 105 closed loop cooler.(keeps my LOAD temps at 45c)
16GB - Corsair Vengeance LPX CMK16GX4M4A2800C16
GTX 780
ASRock x99 WS
corsair carbide 540

5 out of 5 eggsSo much expansion!

Pros: Up to 64GB DDR4 RAM? I think YES. (Also up to 128GB DDR4 Server RAM) This motherboard is the video editor's dream.
Also up to 4-Way SLI with this beast. Try hooking up 4 Titans to this and let me know how much overkill you can get. Beautiful design. EXTREMELY durable. Many power ports. Everything you could need and more.

Cons: The BIOS update CD I seemed to be having issues with. One driver did not like my configuration and kept freezing my computer. Managed to figure it out. There could be a better interface and temperature monitor for all of the parts.

Other Thoughts: I have no regrets with this motherboard. It is VERY durable just like it says. I forgot to unclip my GPU and when I pulled it out with way too much force, I heard a snap and I thought I snapped something off of it when it turned out to be just the GPU slot clip just unclipping. The BIOS is very smooth and easy to get around in. I just don't really like the software on the computer that it comes with. If you're deciding on an ASRock Motherboard, go with this one. Like I said: It is everything you could want and more!

5 out of 5 eggsA little pricey but a nice step forward

Pros: This my first hardware purchase capable of running DDR4 and the new 2011 Broadwell Intel chip, Intel Core i7-5930K Haswell-E 6-Core 3.5GHz. Nice low power usage for the chip size a mem usage. I ran 64GB of 2133MHz and 32GB of 2400MHz, both sets were very stable when set to their given Profile. ASRock, also has the easy bios updating that can download the latest update from the mothership, thorugh the bios, without external media.

Cons: There seems to be some stability issue between the memory and overclocking the CPU, even using preset OC setting through the bios. When the cpu is bumped up at all; the memory becomes unstable. As in locks the machine up. I can blame the motherboard, mem, or cpu, specifically, but it is disappointing the memory stability is an issue with a simple 1% cpu speed increase. I'm running Scientific Linux 6.5, so stability maybe better in Windows.

Other Thoughts: I apologize for not being very specific about my methods of benchmarking, but this new hardware preforms better, at default, than any overclocked, fast DDR3, second gen Haswell i7-4970K system I've ever gotten to stable settings. If you've been saving your pennies, this motherboard and the new Intel processors are a great upgrade.
