It's armed with an AMD 990FX chip and 8 + 2 Power Phase with Digi Power, capable of accommodating up to an eight-core CPU with up to 220W TDP (AMD FX 9590 and 9370). The newly introduced M.2 socket offers you the option to integrate the ultra-compact Next Generation Form Factor (NGFF) SSD. The Full Spike Protection safeguards sensitive components against surges, lightning, and ESD. Enjoy better, audiophile-class sound with the Purity Sound 2 solution. Build a gaming monster with three PCIe 2.0 x16 slots with AMD 3-Way CrossFireX/NVIDIA Quad SLI support. The acclaimed ASRock XFast RAM and XFast LAN are also included for a fast, smooth experience in both local operations and on the Internet.

  • newegg 8 + 2 Power Phase Design with Digi Power Designed with a 8 + 2 Power Phase Design, this motherboard features sturdy components for a completely smooth power delivery to the CPU. Plus, it offers unmatched overclocking capabilities and enhanced performance with the lowest temperature for advanced gamers. This motherboard uses a next-generation digital PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation) design, which provides the CPU Vcore voltage more efficiently and smoothly, so that the stability and lifespan of the motherboard is greatly enhanced. This ASRock motherboard supports AMD FX 9590 and 9370 CPUs, which deliver up to eight cores of unlocked performance, massive overclocking headroom, and a thermal design power of 220W.
  • newegg M.2 Socket (PCIe Gen2 x2 and SATA3) The onboard M.2 socket is a new interface for connecting Next Generation Form Factor (NGFF) solid state drives or other devices. ASRock supports M.2 SATA3 6Gb/s modules and M.2 PCI Express modules up to Gen2 x2 10Gb/s, which is two times faster than other M.2 Gen2 x1 solutions that are limited to 5Gb/s.
  • newegg Purity Sound 2 Purity Sound 2 includes 7.1 CH HD audio with Realtek ALC1150 audio codec, 115dB SNR DAC with Differential Amplifier, TI NE5532 Premium Headset Amplifier, cap less Direct Drive technology, EMI shielding cover, PCB isolate shielding, and DTS Connect. As Nichicon audio capacitors are what every audiophile has been longing for on a PC, ASRock has applied these high-quality capacitors for Purity Sound 2.
  • newegg Full Spike Protection Some sensitive digital components on the motherboard are vulnerable to power surges; excessive current may cause your system to malfunction immediately. ASRock Full Spike Protection includes Surge Protection, Lightning Protection, and ESD Protection to prevent your motherboard’s components from being damaged by these unexpected voltage spikes.
  • newegg Nichicon 12K Platinum Caps Supreme 12K platinum capacitors with lifespans of at least 12,000 hours. Compared to other counterparts on high-end motherboards that have lifespans of merely 10,000 hours, ASRock has applied Nichicon 12K Platinum Caps that offer 20% longer lifespans to provide more stability and reliability.
  • newegg 15µ Gold Contact in DIMM and VGA PCIe Slot Unlike other motherboards come with only 3-4µ gold contacts, this motherboard is coated with a 15µ gold contact in the DRAM slots and PCIe x16 slot, providing better anti-oxidation protection than usual.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor M.2 Support

Pros: -Standard hardware, includes what you'd expect in a mid-to-high end mobo

Cons: The M.2 socket is not what you might think if you haven't done your homework. It uses PCIe g2.0 x2, meaning two lanes of 2nd gen PCIe. You might buy a hyperx predator from kingston and expect 1400 MB/s read (4 lanes), but in reality this motherboard will limit it to about 700 MB/s (this number is still highly optimistic, i've only seen about 500-600 MB/s in benchmark)

Other Thoughts: If you're building a top end computer, don't buy this board. Obviously it's not about transferring large files, you're concerned about fast boots and application load times.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board...

Pros: Love the features: It's supports of the FX-9590 & 9370 Cpu's, M.2, The on board sound, Purity Sound 2 are all the main things I need. Its also a piece of beauty to look at.

Cons: With the M.2 ( I use the 500Gb Samsung EVO) you have just 6 SATA lane to use. At that you have just five (5) Sata to work with and I found that troubling as I normally have a ODD drive (LG) and have installed the dual bay mobile rack for both 2.5" and 3.25" SATA srives. That uses 3 Sata lanes right there. I use two 2Tb drives for mulitmedia files (Music and Movies) and that's all the Sata's used up. It works but still wish I had 8 Sata's like the old Ausu Crosshair V Formula-Z board

Other Thoughts: Wish the Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z R.2 board would have M.2 and some other updates (UDB 3.1) but that's some wishful thinking on my part.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks like a charm

Pros: So i have been running this board all day every day for around 10 months straight and no issues at all. It over clocks fine and have a decently workable UEFI bios. I just bought a FX 9590 and will update how well it handles it after it arrives. I got to use the M.2 drive for a little while but it was only a Sata 3 and not a x2 so it dose work but I cannot tell you how well it could if you bought a better m.2 drive.

Cons: One of the X's on the Heart spreader was just slightly peeled up on a corner and cut me one good, but what the fun of building a computer if it doesn't draw blood?

Other Thoughts: Guys this is just the Killer 990FX board, and you can prove it by peeling off the black electric tape over the killer name just under the PCIE slot. But it is made with slightly better parts and it comes in blue if you need a build theme done. Also the killer Ethernet Nic on the board does go up to 11! (1-Gigabit speeds). Sound off board was pretty nice as well and lots of I/O on the back and USB 3.0 support. Sadly i had some trouble with getting my 1866 ram speeds locked in some times, but that could be my CPU (FX 8150).

2 out of 5 eggsPoor Layout + Randomly Turns On

Pros: This is one of only a handful of motherboards to support 220W processors.

Cons: The SATA ports are an awful horizontal configuration on a corner making them very inaccessible without taking the motherboard out. The layout does not work well with my case and powersupply as the RAM is literally having to have cables running over it. The EFI firmware did not help me with promised driver configuration on Windows (I had to boot Linux). My biggest gripe is that despite disabling ALL wake settings in the firmware, it still boots whenever it feels like.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Nathan,

Thank you for purchase and review.
For the drivers, they can also be download at link below or can be using DVD driver disc that come with mainboard.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Board, Until it isn't.

Pros: Allows for overclocking controls, contains great features, M.2 was a nice addition.

Cons: Ethernet port failed within 8 months. USB 3.0 acts up at times for me.

Other Thoughts: As this board runs my Plex server along with a bunch of other things the loss of the ethernet port was annoying to say the least. Instead of trying to warranty this in any way I just bout an Intel PCI-E gigabit card to replace that functionality.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Brandon,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please trouble shoot the mainboard below steps to see if its resolved.
• Clear the CMOS.
• Load the BIOS setting default.
• Check the LAN port’s LED lights are on once plugged the network cable (unplug and plug),
• Check the router and /or modem causing the issue.
• Test with another LAN cable.
• Download and install latest LAN driver at link: http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/990FX%20Extreme6/?cat=Download

3 out of 5 eggsHot North Bridge

Pros: uefi

M.2

Cons: Northbridge is just ridiculously hot. You must have decent airflow or a nice 140mm side mounted fan to keep this fire hazard cooled.

Other Thoughts: I like Asrock I always have but this board needs a better heat sink or active cooling, no way you should be generating that kind of heat just booting into windows. I added 2 120 mm fans to the side panel and now the heat sink is just real warm. Now with good cooling my 8350 is purring at 4800 no problems.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Steven,

Thank you for purchase and review.
Due to power design, AMD platform generates more heat (FX 8350 @ 125w).
Please allow better air circulation inside the chassis including NB and VRM area.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks like a charm

Pros: Not really much to say here, works perfectly as it should. Won't run hot if you have ample cooling for it.

Cons: Once in awhile when booting into the BIOS for some reason it does not recognize the mouse or keyboard (Mine light up and when it fails to recognize them they do not light up), never been able to figure out why. Upon resetting though it fixes itself, so it's not a huge deal to me anyway. Just thought I'd put it here.

Other Thoughts: There is mysterious tape or something covering what appears to be the word "Killer" on the keyboard down near the PCI slots. I know Asrock makes a keyboard with that name. Just seemed weird to see this.

4 out of 5 eggsASRock's 990FX Extreme6 AM3+ Motherboard

Pros: It's not broken, and works like a dream, other than the con stated below, which I see as a minor irritant.

Cons: This problem is a bit on enigma to me. One of fans can't be affected from the motherboard's BIOS screen, and can't be affected by SpeedFan. I'm not sure if this is problem with the ports (prongs) on the Mobo or if it is a problem with the fan itself. I've tried plugging it into both PWR Fan 1 and CHA Fan 1. There's a pro and a con to this. It keeps my case's innards around 30 degrees celsius, but the fan is as loud as, if not louder than my laptop. Whether the mobo or the fan is the problem I don't know, but I am led to believe it is the mobo, as I have a fan of the same model and brand that works just fine in another port, and it should be the mobo that limits the power supplied to the fans through the prongs. I wouldn't have a problem with this if I didn't have a roommate coming in less than a month, and I didn't need to leave it on all night to keep a server online.

1 out of 5 eggsStarting to go bad

Pros: Handles 240Watt CPU
Looks nice

Cons: Only 4 Sata ports
Asrock has terrible customer support, can't seem to find a number all you can do is submit a form and they tell you to contact the retailer even though I bought it 8 months ago from Newegg.

PC started locking up ever 15 minutes if I was reading or writing on anyone of my hard drives, started swapping out drives, problems persists but can run in prime95 for hours and I don't freeze/crash/lock up.

Updated my Bios, crashed during that now I can't post. Sitting around for the manufacturer to tell me to contact Newegg again, real stellar support.

Other Thoughts: The blue accents really ties the PC together.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: color

Cons: rma can be better.

Other Thoughts: have asrock 990fx extreme6 with 9590 . cpu jumps from 4,7 to 1.3 to 4.4 4.5 5.0 mhz. it not the cpu .I have 8350 it does the same thing .I put the 9590 in my asrock performance fatality it work fine.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear rollandthedrifter,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please allow better air circulation inside the chassis and VRM are to avoid overheat.
Once system is overheated the CPU throttling (dropping multiplier) will occur to avoid damage the processor chip.
If using FX series with 125w and 220w CPU, please install a CPU cooler with a top-down blowing design.
For more information about CPU with 125W/220W, please visit link below.
