4 out of 5 eggsBuy it for the right reasons!

Pros: Very low energy consumption.
Better I/O options than previous Bay Trail boards.
Far superior to current ARM based desktop solutions.

Cons: Very weak single core performance.
One of the weakest x86 quad core CPU's available for a desktop.

Other Thoughts: I bought this exclusively because of the low power consumption. It appears to be similar in power consumption to some of the high end ARM based devices, in some case even lower. x86 processors have more operating systems and software available that installs and runs quickly. There are much better options for silent computing and small form factor, but if you demand low power consumption then this board is tough to beat at this price.

It wasn't very usable in Linux when it was first released, but once *buntu 15.10 came out and shortly after followed by Intel drivers, this thing became much more usable. It will occasionally hang when a single threaded process saturates the low speed processor. While not for gaming, it can play most of the low resource games I play without many issues, Including a few 3D games like Unturned. It works fine for me as an HTPC with Xubuntu 15.10

I'm waiting for *buntu 16.04 to drop and the next release of Intel drivers. The newer kernel and drivers should help both performance and power efficiency. You can't expect to slap a bunch of RAM into this thing and expect it to work like a typical desktop. I have 2 x 2GB RAM and never run out of RAM because I have realistic expectations. Expect to wait a few more generations before seeing a sub $100 embedded motherboard that can compete with 2nd Gen Intel Core processors. Current CPU performance is similar to a weak Core2Duo at ~1/10th the power consumption. Runs cool and silent with a Pico PSU.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat idea that fails

Pros: 6 watt CPU chip
near-MATX form factor
Fanless - silent
Enough ports
Good looking board

Cons: Slow - I have slower chips that run faster than this dog and exhibit none of the below behavior defects-
Drops video suddenly
Not up to running wireless dongles in front USB ports - wireless keyboard and mouse fall unresponsive and I have to plug in wired versions to get out of a mess. I write fiction (building computers has been my hobby since 1988), so this motherboard can derail my serenity for an hour or so by messing up flow.
SATA Express x 16 runs at x1 - why put it on the board as x16? Just build in three (or four) SATAXx1 ports
Board isn't full MATX size, so a screw hole or so have nothing in or beneath them

Other Thoughts: I run Ubuntu 64 Desktop on it, and the poor thing just seems overwhelmed by life in the real world of an everyday computer, as Ubuntu will run on any non-Mac machine that works. It boots in acceptable time with great video, and that's the high point of its day. I've pulled junk out of thrift shops, cleaned it up, and had it run better than decent on Ubuntu, better than this. I see no reason for this chip to run at 1.6 GHz in the steadily increasing low power market. 2 GHz is the minimum, I think. I'm going to try a N3700M, and if that doesn't work, I'm not buying any more Intel embedded solutions. I bought the poor thing, so I'll eat it and throw it away with the rest of the garbage that leaves my workspace.

4 out of 5 eggsIt rocks, just be prepared for a fight if you use Windows7

Pros: Cheap
Small
Pretty amazing graphics
Low Power
Quiet
Fast

I'm very impressed with this little board. I have a j1800 i was impressed with and it's garbage compared to this.

Cons: Windows 7 install is a little rougher than they say. I loaded the drivers onto a usb windows setup and it worked until Windows loaded up, then nothing, luckily I found an old ps2 mouse and used the on screen keyboard to get to where I could load the usb3 drivers again. I'd suggest installing off of a dvd and using ps2 mouse and keyboard. It'll save you a headache and frustration.

Other Thoughts: DO NOT USE THE SATA CABLES IT COMES WITH. They are junk, for some reason my hd would show up and my ssd was not recognized in the bios. Windows would see it but not the bios so I couldn't make my ssd the boot drive. I finally changed the cable and bam, ssd shows up and all is good.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat small efficient board

Pros: Ultra efficient. Small form factor. New 14nm intel chips. Braswell

Cons: Limited number of SATA ports. Would have purchased the Mini ITX version if it did not require laptop sized SO-DIMM memory modules , going with the slightly larger Micro-ATX module does provide you 2 normal sized RAM slots but at the cost of larger board in general

Other Thoughts: Works great as a PFSense Firewall. Added a Rosewill dual gigabit ethernet card and PFSense recognizes all 3 gigabit NICs with no problem. With 8GB DDR3 RAM loaded in, PFSense dashboard displays roughly 5-10% RAM use with average loads, maybe 1-5% CPU utilization with average loads + lots of plugins installed. Very efficient, quiet and cool

3 out of 5 eggsASRockN3150M

Pros: Low wattage.

Cons: Compared to my 3770k at stock clock running the same samsung 840 pro with windows 8.1 pro mce it is a complete dog. It cannot multitask at all. Windows MCE is laggy and if you try to do something else at the same time it is difficult. I will now just use it for a expensive security recorder. I hate to say it but my old P4 from 2004 is a bit easyer to work with granted it is running windows xp black edition. Windows 8.1 had trouble installing the lan driver and the driver cd that came with it was a bit confusing with the two check boxes to the left of each driver install. The automated driver install off of the cd failed even after I manually installed the lan driver first. The bios updater in bios failed several times and I had to do it using a thumb drive. Secure boot and the key management is a joke compared to my ageing gigabyte Z77x ud5h running the modded bios from tweektown.

Other Thoughts: The secure boot seems to fight me because of a video driver and the video has this annoying flash of green distortion during boot. The video looks blurry no matter what I do with the 1080p res compared to my gtx760 on the gigabyte.
On a different note Windows install did not work with 7 as they state.I WILL slipstream a new windows 7 ultimate with all the latest and greatest drivers to work with new hardware.
Windows 8 and above has become a nightmare for me to deal with.
Love ubuntu but need to learn proper operation of it yet. I did not try it on this.
