High Density Glass Fabric PCB

What you've never understood about your computer is that it is scared to death of water, H2O, humidity or whatever you'd like to name it. And even though you do not see the water, actually there may be lots of excessive moist in the air killing your motherboard silently and slowly. No, your motherboard doesn't melt when in contact with water like the wicked witch of the west, but it dies of short circuit. Luckily, ASRock has a new High Density Glass Fabric PCB design that reduces the gaps between the PCB layers to protect the motherboard against electrical shorts caused by humidity.

5 out of 5 eggsAnyone giving this a bad review does not know what they're talking about!

Pros: -Supports a wide variety of new and upcoming features like *Ultra* M.2. (32Gb/s) and USB 3.1 with 10 GB/s speeds as well as DDR4!
-Is one of the only Z170 boards that is primarily black with copper accenting. I find the board to be one of if not the best looking.
-The Debug LED and Power/Reset button red leds turn off after the system finishes loading the BIOS settings. It's not a big deal but when trying to color match a computer it can be an issue if it's on all the time like previous ASUS boards I've had. Love that it automatically turns off.
-BIOS navigation is a dream! Very quick response times for changing settings as well as rebooting.
-DUAL BIOS is a great feature especially if you ever get a corrupt BIOS. You can easily change the jumper over to activate the 2nd BIOS and fix the BIOS and get back up and running.
-XMP 2.0 profile works with the click of a button. My 3000MHZ ram was running at 3000MHZ after I choose the profile.
-8x SATA 3.0 Gb/s ports and 2x SATA express ports. More than enough for 90% of users.
-Has a thunderbolt header.
-ASRocks servers are fast to download latest drivers and took only about 30 minutes to get everything up to date.
-The price! I can't praise the price of this board enough... For $180 you're getting so many features that some $200+ dollar boards don't have! I actually got mine on sale for $145 from Newegg so I'm beyond thrilled to say the least!
-Out of the box I selected the 4.8GHZ overclock preset and booted right into windows and was able to stress test it and it was stable! Very impressed with this board right now.

Cons: -Placement of the Debug LED isn't ideal. I wish they would have put it below the Power and reset button. If you have a GPU in the 2nd PCI-e slot it will most likely block the Debug LED. Not a big deal.

Other Thoughts: Well first off people reviewing this motherboard have no clue what they're talking about. All of the 1 out of 5 egg reviews state the motherboard was DOA which means it was not working right out of the box. How can you give a product a review when you didn't even get to use it??? These people are nuts!

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Motherboard. Great Features. Easy to overclock.

Pros: - Easy to set up using the manuals
- Lots of features like M.2 slot, USB 3.1
- Easy to overclock in BIOS

Cons: - Initially thought the LAN port was dead when I couldn't connect to the network. I then tried to install the network driver from the included CD and the computer froze. I then proceeded to install the driver from USB and it worked. The CD took a long time to run the installation setup for some odd reason.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend installing drivers from USB or download from their website instead of the included CD. Updated the BIOS and so far it's been running great.

1 out of 5 eggsStay away from this board

Pros: It's not black and red. Has all the connection you would want and a nice looking UEFI.

Cons: First one died - 00 error - about 2 months into ownership. No overclocking, no tweaking no nothing. Suddenly one day would not wake up from sleep. They quickly RMA'd the board for me and I had another one within a few days.

The RMA is now dead after 3 weeks in my system. Will not even power on. I took a chance going away from Asus and Gigabyte this time on my newest build and I quickly am regretting it.

Other Thoughts: I will send off for the RMA on this board as well - however I'm not wasting anymore time with this board or this brand. I will put something in my machine that will last more than a couple week/months. I need something that's rock solid and stable. Hard to work from home when my machine won't even boot.......

5 out of 5 eggsNo issues here!

Pros: First off, sorry to everyone having so many issues :( not sure why.. Maybe I just got the the end of a good batch? Who knows. I've had this mobo for just under 3 months, running almost 18 hours a day every day. Upon completing the build ;

ASRock Z170 Extreme6
Intel Core i5-6600K 6M Skylake Quad-Core 3.5 / OCed @4.2
Corsair Hydro Series H80i GT
G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 Series 16GB
EVGA 120-G1-1000-VR 80 PLUS GOLD 1000W
EVGA GeForce GTX 980 04G-P4-2983-KR 4GB SC
boot: SAMSUNG 850 EVO 2.5" 250GB SATA III
also using an additional ssd and 2tb hdd ;

I updated to the latest bios, 1.50. Installed Win 8.1, and have since updated to Win 10. I haven't had a single issue anywhere in between. Board temp averages a consistent 23°c and around 30° when I game for hours on end. Literally no issues. This so far, is a really solid board for me. Wondering how it compare in terms of longevity compared to my EVGA 780i lol!

Cons: Not a single one, and I have no reason to think I ever will!

Other Thoughts: I see know that there is a new bios update, 1.70. I have found absolutely no reviews or anything from anyone updating to it, so I'm really hesitant to do so. Along the way I've picked up this; If the version your using is working for you fine, don't update. There's no need. Most of these reviews you guys seem to have version 1.6.. Try a manual rollback to bios version 1.5. Unless I've been away from the game too long and that's not possible? I don't see why not. Bios version 1.5 works with zero issues for me. and unless I hear something major, I guess I have no need to update to 1.7.

1 out of 5 eggs99 Error code. PCI Device error. No PCI device is connected

Pros: None. Looks nice. But I couldn't get the board to work so no pros

Cons: Getting "99" error on the debug LED. According to the manual, "99" is a PCI-E device error. There aren't any PCI-E devices connected. I'm trying to use the onboard video.

Other Thoughts: After 21 years of building PCs it seems like nothing has changed. In fact it seems worse. I've been trying to get this build going now for 4 weeks, I'm on my second Ram/Motherboard Combo. This is too frustrating. My last board was an ASRock that I used for 5 years with no issues.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Anthony,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
For the code 99 issue, please turn the power off.
Disconnect all HDD/SSD/ODD/USB drives from mainboard.
Turn on the power to check if its enter to BIOS or prompting to press F1, F2, etc.. to enter BIOS.
Populate the drive one by one to verify which drive is causing the issue.

1 out of 5 eggsLess than 2 months and the Board already has issues

Pros: Nice when it worked correctly..

Cons: Recently my new pc will not fully power down. I am using the newest BIOS 1.60. It's not the PSU since I put another in and still experienced the same issue. When I turn off the pc the fans go down to low and remain on.. my video card fans and LED lights also remain on. Tried everything but nothing works gonna try and reset the BIOS back to factory original and redo the BIOS.. this is the second issue I have had with this board since I bought it.. might be my last ASRock board, its back to ASUS for me.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Robert,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please try below.
• Unplug the power.
• Clear the CMOS.
• Reconnect the ATX power firmly.
• Load the BIOS setting default to check if its address the issue.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA twice

Pros: as advertised it is full of features and I was excited about what this board could do. I was pleasantly surprised with the design and appearance of the board.

Cons: First, no front panel included. I was disappointed, but this was not a deal breaker.
Second, the first board I bought was DOA, would not boot, POST, no so much as a fan powering up. After days of troubleshooting the board, power supply, RAM, and researching this board I finally RMA'd. Newegg had quick turn-around (THANKS NEWEGG!!!). I start testing the new board, but same results. If there is some magic trick to this please tell me. However, this is a common complaint among the reviews here.
I have followed the instructions from the manuf. posted here to no avail.

Other Thoughts: I will give them a third chance and if they strike out, I will move on to another manuf.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible

Pros: looks good

Cons: Bought 2 in a row. Would not boot with the new I7-skylake. Both boards arrived with the o;d 1.00 bios and would not post with the new i7-6700k. First board arrived with bent pins, second board simply would not post. From the reading, this is a a reoccurring problem with the Extreme6. As a huge Asrock fan, I am going to try an extreme4 and see of that works. Otherwise I am done with Asrock until I leave the 1151 platform. After the terrible USB 3.0 support on the Extreme4 1155 and this 1151 failure, i think it is time to move on.

Other Thoughts: Maybe if Newegg was sending these out with the latest bios this would'nt be an issue? the solution seems to be to put in an older processor and upgrade the bios before installing the skylake. I simply did not have the option as I was upgrading from the 1155 platform,
