High Density Glass Fabric PCB

What you’ve never understood about your computer is that it is scared to death of water, H2O, humidity or whatever you’d like to name it. And even though you do not see the water, actually there may be lots of excessive moist in the air killing your motherboard silently and slowly. No, your motherboard doesn’t melt when in contact with water like the wicked witch of the west, but it dies of short circuit. Luckily, ASRock has a new High Density Glass Fabric PCB design that reduces the gaps between the PCB layers to protect the motherboard against electrical shorts caused by humidity.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Nothing special to mention.
The BIOS has a lot of features if you want to tweak your system.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: I got this board because it was a low cost z170 chip set. There are boards that have more features that cost more but I don't need those features. I put this system together with a I3 6100 and 8 GB of ddr4. It handles everything I need it to do.

3 out of 5 eggsCPU Fan not working

Pros: Dont know, put it back in box to return it before I ciould use it. Other fan related issues.

Cons: Received a dud. Fans not working once plugged in to test. Troubleshot the fans , they were working properly on other pins on another motherboard.

Other Thoughts: First purchase from NewEgg. Referred by a friend. This will set me back a week or more for my business. Also, all installation time lost and can't be regained since i was building a new computer and had everything installed besides OS

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Sean,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please turn the power off, clear the CMOS.
Load the BIOS setting default.
Reconnect the fan to header firmly again to test.

2 out of 5 eggsMy first faulty product over several years

Pros: - Price vs. specs.
- Physical size

Cons: - Manual directions are not %100 true (check the dimm installation figure for instance)
- Weird high pitch humm coming from around the CPU area.
- Sporadic "Driver kernel driver fault detected" errors on WIndows 10.

Other Thoughts: This has been my first faulty product over years of building rigs. It happens but others should know.
After installing Windows 10 and GTS 450 GPU (from my previous build, working perfectly) I started getting sporadic "NVIDIA kernel driver stopped responding and recovered" errors after the screen going blank and coming back. Sometimes, it would just reboot. I went through all the usual trouble shootings but none worked. I have to point out that I did all the stress testing of the components and did not have any error reports. Weird and sneaky problem to troubleshoot.

Long story short I RMA'ed it back and ordered an MSI Tomahawk. Finger crossed.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Murat,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
For the high pitch sound issue, please turn the power off, clear the CMOS.
Load the BIOS setting default.
Test with another known good power supply.
For the issue with GTS 450, please try with onboard video to check if the symptom still occur.
Test with another VGA card to verify the issue in onboard video working normally.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Board sadly no support...

Pros: -Overclock your Non-k chip
-Color is nice
-Fits current needs
-BIG BIG BIG UPS to newegg getting me a working board as quick as possible

Cons: -Horrible bios.....Asrock should really consider getting back to their roots. There is a slight chance...I mean major chance if your trying to use the bios with this board it will not respond i guess i could call it. It doesn't exactly lock up. I can still get my mouse to move around but other then that it will completely freeze. Looking around on forums the manufacture has yet to come out with a fix for this issue. ESPECIALLY when advertised for SKY OC. Award winning? I just don't see it. On the short side of it the board was only 80 bucks. Near to the 100 dollar purchase I would expect a better quality product seeing their original parent company was ASUS.
-1st board was DOA so keep in mind if your going to OC Test bench TEST BENCH TEST BENCH!!!!!

Other Thoughts: Overall good board. I just don't understand why the maker would not have support for the BIOS issue.

A considerable choice when it comes to a Mid range budget build.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Erica,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
For the BIOS symptom, please update the BIOS at link below.
Link: http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z170%20Pro4S/index.us.asp?cat=Download&os=BIOS
Load the BIOS setting default.
If possible, test with another monitor.

5 out of 5 eggsPleasantly Surprised

Pros: Booted first try. Recognized memory with correct speed and timings. Also recognized all other peripherals.

Cons: Like others that want to keep Windows 7, I had to make a Bootable Windows 7 usb drive with usb 3.0 drivers on it. Then I had to go into the bios and use the usb to ps2 port emulator. When it got to finalizing installation screen in windows, it kept looped back to the install start screen. So I pulled the usb drive out holding my breath, and it finished the install.

Other Thoughts: Paired with GSkill 8gb ddr4 2400 memory(will be getting 8 more next month), an i5 6600k and my trusty old MSI r9 290x gaming 4g. All bought here. Getting 20 fps more in Battlefield 4, and no more lag issues in Fallout 4. Both games on highest settings

It was a move from my FX 8350, of which I always will have fond memories.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat board with lots of features.

Pros: It's got good specs for a board.
Good customer reviews.
Feature rich both in terms of hardware specs and bios settings to fine tune to the users liking.

Cons: Honestly I can't think of any in actuality it's the best motherboard I've ever owned thus far it's essentially got everything I could really want and more.

Other Thoughts: Can't go wrong with this motherboard for 1151 it came the latest SkyOC capable bios so I didn't have to do a thing to OC my i3-6100 which it did so with complete ease.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: worked with ddr4 2400 2x8gb ram out of the box, no issues with boot or install at all.

Cons: -fans would spin even when powered off
-bios crashes sometimes

Other Thoughts: ASRock responded very promptly to my email about the fan issue, with a fix that didn't work. i sent it to newegg for RMA, we'll see if i can get a replacement or not.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat value

Pros: - good features
- Intel network (no terrible KILLER garbage here)

Cons: - ram banks too close together
- not quite full size so the board doesn't get enough support from the case

Other Thoughts: I bought this to use with GSKILL TridentZ RAM, which has wide heatsinks. It's quite snug on this board. My personal feeling is that the board should have been a little bigger with my space between the RAM banks.

3 out of 5 eggsBad Ram Slots

Pros: OK for the price.
Functional

Cons: - two RAM slots didn't work on my board

Other Thoughts: When I initially purchased this board, I was very impressed. Its feature set when compared against its cost seems like a great value. However, I was on a budget and was only about to purchase one RAM stick. I installed the RAM in to slot B2 and everything worked fine. A while later I purchased a second RAM stick of the same type and model as the first. I installed the second RAM stick in to slot A2, and turned on the computer. Nothing. A blank screen. Thinking maybe I had bad RAM stick or that RAM NEEDED to be purchased in kits (which was never a thing btw, so long as you use the same type and model, it shouldn't matter) I decided to test both RAM sticks in each individual slot. What I discovered was that the computer wouldn't post if RAM was socketted in to slots A1 and A2. That means no dual channel for me. I tried everything I could think of, from seating and reseating the RAM (which has a really odd mounting structure) to updating the bios. Nothing. Those two ram slots are dead. Both RAM sticks are socketted in slots B1 and B2 without issue at the moment. I simply do not have the time nor the inclination to go through to process of replacing the board. It would cost me more money than its worth, but I will say that I will be very careful with purchases from ASRock in the future

I am giving this 3 eggs because as it stands I do have two functional RAM slots, and the board is technically working. Hell, without my RAM slot issue, I'd go so far as to say that this board is amazing. But the fact that I can't use this board to its full advertised potential is why I chose to dock it 2 eggs.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Morgan,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please trouble shoot the mainboard whether the issue is resolved.
• Clear the CMOS.
• Check the mainboard’s CPU contact pins are normal (should be pointing same way and pattern).
• Reseat the CPU and heatsink fan if socket pins are normal.
• Test with single memory module on each memory slot one by one to verify all slots are working.
• Populate the memory if all slots are working individually.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent MOBO for the price!

Pros: LOVE THIS BOARD!! Got it on sale also!! Paired this MOBO with Skylake i5 6500m with the specific purpose of saving money and being able to OC the CPU.
Plenty of space for everything. Have successfully OC Skylake i5 6500 to 4.5MHz! Had to increase voltage to 1.395 (max MOBO will let set).

Cons: Board is a tad flimsy. Be careful plugging in.....
Latest BIOS just killed the Sky OC function, effectively making this board just another MOBO....
