4 out of 5 eggsOld entries are a great reference

Pros: This model showed up in a search for a SuperMicro H8DAE-2. Thankfully, the newegg entry contains information about this motherboard that the manufacture does not. I was able to use this info to get he correct Broadcom 5704 drivers for my motherboard.

Cons: That the manufacture's website has inaccurate information.

Other Thoughts: I know this isn't a review for this product, but I'm hoping this comment can help others who resort to google to fix issues with the H8DAE series motherboards. Rated at 4 stars since it's not really a review.

5 out of 5 eggsComplete HW support for ESXi

Pros: More than two years ago I needed to build a backup server. I used this board, Opteron 280 and Areca 1120 card. Worked fine all these years.

Recently we got another backup server and I wanted to reuse this system for Virtual Environment. I tried VMWare server 2.0 - worked fine, then I tried ESXi - works excellent!!! I added RAM to reach 16GB, second Opteron 280 and voila - I can run 8 servers and a couple of XPs in it. Everything runs fast.

All hardware is supported. I didn't need to purchase anything additionally. Since there is no Virtualization support, then you cannot install 64 bit guest OSes, but this is not a problem in my case. I needed a good research and development platform.

Areca is supported for ESXi Update 3.

Cons: None. Old RAM is becoming very expensive. If you are planning to build a capable inexpensive VM server, check other SUPERMICRO motherboards that use DDR2 memory.

Other Thoughts: Incredible reliability. I recommend using SuperMicro motherboards.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great!

Pros: Easy install. Lots of bios setup options. This mobo has been aound a while, bios is mature. No surprises in setup. Using 2-Opteron 265 dual core and 4 pieces of 1GB memory. Windows Server 2003 will install the new INTEL spec PAE HAL and let you see over 4 GB of memory. Nice to use the extra RAM!

Cons: None, so far after 3 months.

Other Thoughts: This is a stock install, no overclocking. If using PC3200 memory, this mobo is limited to 12 ranks (6 ranks per CPU). If you exceed the 12 (6) rank limit, the PC3200 memory downclocks to PC2700. All mobo's will do this. Take the time to check on the "rank" of each memory piece you use. This is the limiting factor on most mobo's now.
