5 out of 5 eggsKnow what you are buying

Pros: Low cost, Intel IOAT gigabit network adapters, supports Dual 5400 Xeons. Fits into 1RU chassis. Easy install, good drivers from Intel available. PCIe 8x port in first location, so it suits 1RU PCIe risers.

Cons: ONLY TAKES <80W XEONS. Power requirements are strange - (peak values) 5V-3.36A, 3.3V-0.73A, 12V-23A. Make sure your power supply can handle a _continuous_ 21A on the 12V rail, most sub 550W name brand supplies can't. As stated below, some BIOS options cause random crashes. I couldn't get the Graphics Driver to integrate with nlite, it caused an error on install, and graphics performance was terrible (moving explorer windows around etc). Northbridge also runs extremely hot, VRMs moderately so.

Other Thoughts: These boards are going into a 40 node cluster. Well suited to this purpose, as it has no superfluous hardware. Motherboard is 12x12"

4 out of 5 eggsgood board - some issues

Pros: runs efficiently and without problems once set up correctly

Cons: I had trouble even getting it to boot up and only after dissabling ACPI in the bios would it continue. There was no indication of any failure on the screen, nor on the onboard LED and supermicro technical support was not helpful at all.

Other Thoughts: This board is compatible with two xean quadcore 5400 processors, which is just great. However, I can't read the temperature of the CPUS in the bios. It shows 2 degrees celsius which would sort of mean I'd be close to freezing, but I have no need to overclock and therefore this is less of an issue.
I run linux with this and haven't had any problems after figuring out how to get it to work once.
