5 out of 5 eggsI love this board

Pros: Accepts 128GB of RAM, documented. However, I've heard of people successfully putting in 256GB of RAM.

Cons: Expensive.

Other Thoughts: I have 17 of these boards and now I'm about to purchase another. That should say it all. :)

4 out of 5 eggsA great Server Motherboard

Pros: Cost affective high-power board, with a very good Intel Server chipset. Installed a pair of 2.5Ghz Quad CPUs and 16 4GB Memory sticks, to bring it to 128GB RAM. The case has 16 1TB S-IDE hard drives. We also added a second dual NIC card. We use it for Microsoft Hyper-V Virtualized technical class training. It's amazing how fast 10-15 virtuals will run.

Cons: The board requires a non-standard case for it's over-sized configuration. There are only a few choices, and they come from SuperMicro. As to RAM, it's not the motherboard's fault, but if you have a desire to use 8GB SDRAM modules, so that you could eventually take the board to 256GB you're in for a very pricy task. They are still over $500 a stick. So @ 4 X 500 you will be into it for $2,000+ or $8,000+ for the full 256GB of RAM. You could build a whole second system, for less, and divide work tasks if you needed to go beyond the 128GB RAM.

Other Thoughts: I also added a pair of RocketRAID PCI-X cards for hardware RAID, as board only does software RAID. Read up on RAID5. Articles say that with today's large drives RAID5 rebuilding of a failed drive is problematical with a 40% likelyhood of failure. Maybe the answer is RAID6 or RAID10 for data safety.
