Pros: I have used this board in 4x of my server builds.
I just got my 5th today and it was defective (but newegg will replace and all will be good again)
This board has great features, can use ECC RAM (with xeon cpus) and has every connection you could want.
It has proven to be very stable and a good work horse.
BIOS options are easy to understand and has all the features you could want.

Cons: No real cons with this motherboard.

Other Thoughts: I have used this motherboard in servers, my HTPC, and my main workstation.

This board is built for stability and reliability, not overclocking.

Pros: Since, day one problem but they were nice enough to replace it and give me another server,

Cons: After six months burn my CPU XEON 3580 cost me $1000 plus 6months of headache chasing this people to replace my server and no response.Lost 6 months of work and $1400 dollars and business.

Other Thoughts: I bought a Asus a about $100 more then this one.
The lesson here is you get what you paid for and learn my lesson.

Pros: I have had this board running in nearly 24/7 operation for over 3 years now and have never had a problem with it (running Windows Server 2008R2).

Booted up first go on day one and every time there after when I installed new hardware.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Set Up:

Chassis: Supermicro CSE-743T-645B (Supermicro still makes the CSE-743T case in a 665w variant, highly recommended)
RAM: One Kingston KVR1333D3N9HK3/12G kit & One KVR1333D3N9K3/6G kit (total of 18gigs)
CPU: core i7 920 (bloomfield)
Heatsink: I used the stock Intel cooler for nearly all 3 years before upgrading to a Noctua NH-U9DX heat sink (This requires a threaded backplate, Supermicro part# BKT-0023L).

The Intel stock cooler worked fine until I finally got the case loaded with 13 hard drives, 2 raid cards, and a 6950 ati card to drive my 3 monitors. I wanted to keep the temps down so the board would would never kick the case fans into high gear (total of 7 pwm fans).

I believe most people find various issues with this board (and others like it) because they do not use a Supermicro case, which these boards are definitely designed to be used with. They will work in just about any ATX for sure, but everything will just click right with a supermicro chassis.

Pros: Onboard RAID exists and works just fine. In fact, there is Intel-based RAID and Adaptec-based RAID. The Adaptec raid is cheesy, 2004 vintage, drivers are scarce for Windows 2008 so stick with Intel folks.

POST moves quickly which I like.

Thus far, a solid board for HyperV and Windows Server 2008; should be putting this server into production soon. This is paired with a 3Ghz Core i7 and 4 SATA HD's.

I don't need all 12 USB connections so those offered within the confines of my Antec case does the trick.

Cons: Nothing comes to mind.

Pros: I purchased this bored for a home ESXi server/lab. My first supermicro board and I bought it based on many other positive reviews of Supermicro. No configuration needed I was able to just plug everything in and go. Lot of features and the various expansion slots makes this plus.

Cons: No on board RAID.

Other Thoughts: The board is packed with features so not really a con but choose the CPU cooler carefully. I wanted a quite server so I bought a large Zalman cooler (CNPS9500) and one of the bolts for the CPU clamp had to be cut off and secured with zip tips. There are alot of compoents close the CPU socket. The cooler I picked also needs the 1366 clip which is sold seperalty.

Pros: Works and cheap.

Cons: You can't set AHCI on one SATA port, when you change it, it change all of them. its kinda dumb.

Pros: This board works really well under Linux as a workstation board. I paired this with a Xeon W3680 and it is great. Everything works and it has been perfectly stable so far.

Cons: Could have used more on board USB ports.

Other Thoughts: I'm not going to call this a "con" but it might have been nice for Supermicro to include (or sell as an accessory) a 5.25 faceplate with LED's to display the extra diagnostic indicators available on board. Instead you would have to buy a Supermicro case to get these.

Pros: love supermicros are the simplest easiest, plug and play motherboards i know, no tinkering required .

Cons: noda

Other Thoughts: Got to love when after assembly it just works. i had this board and still have its sister board that's SLI capable but with out the pcix slots , unfortunately the pci16x are to close together for any real video cards in sli .
also unfortunately the pcix on this motherboard was incompatible with running 2 of my pci video input cards. one worked fine just not 2. no go.
thankfully there's more then one manufacturer of motherboard and asus to the rescue
all in all this board was as stable as most supermicros, as long as all compatible . assemble set it and forget it.

the 4 stars are for its simplicity and stability . the negative star is for the incompatibility

just to be fair it was most likely a simple motherboard driver issue in Linux because the asus workstation does not use the same bridge to the pcix slots as the supermicro, supermicros tech support was unable to help with this ishue. :(

Pros: Reliable server board. I have 2 of these running Windows 2003 servers w 6 GB RAM, 3ware PCI-X RAID boards w Core i7 and Xeon Quad core CPUs for over a year now w/out any more problems after they updated the BIOS last year.

Cons: They should provide better phone support. Support is in the form of online/e-mail support and is slow. Phone support for the motherboards has been essentially non-existant as of a year ago.

Other Thoughts: Supermicro fixed some minor issues w their boards (with BIOS updates) and gets 5 eggs from me (see my prior post).
Core i7 does not support ECC, Xeon does.
I am buying more of these boards. They can make very reliable workstations as well.

Pros: Just works well. Used Supermicro for years and another happy user. Booted right up the first time. Very stable with ESXi 4.1. Internal USB slots are nice for booting ESXi off a flash disk.

Cons: I'm giving -1 egg only because the north bridge chip/heatsink does get a little hot. 150' as measured in my case. Make sure you have good steady airflow across the heatsink. If I could give 4.5 eggs I'd rate it there.

Other Thoughts: This is not a strong gaming/OC board so don't give it less eggs for that reason. Do your research! This is for someone who simply wants a quality board that is plug and go. Going to try replacing the northbridge heatsink with a SilenX IXN-40C.
