Buyer Beware - This is an EEATX (Enhanced Extended ATX) Motherboard
Reviewed By: RKassCompWiz on 12/5/2009
Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
Pros: Dual LGA 1366 CPU Sockets Max 144 GB RAM Dual x16 PCI Express Slots Loads of connectivity options
Cons: This is an EEATX (Enhanced Extended ATX) Motherboard. There are not many cases that this board will fit in. According to the Supermicro website, they list this as a proprietary form factor. Newegg lists this board as an E-ATX (Extended ATX) Motherboard, which is incorrect. Unfortunately, I did not realize this until it arrived and I tried to mount it in my case and only 5 of the mounting holes matched.
This is misleading and Newegg should update their product page to indicate the proper form factor as per Supermicro so that other customers do not make the same mistake.
Other Thoughts: I purchased a Athena Power RM-4U4055BH8 Black 4U Rackmount Server Case to hold this board, after matching the form factors. When I received the board, only 5 of the 11 mounting holes matched. Furthermore, the power supply (all though it did work with and match the board specs), would not fit in the case due to the motherboard being about 1.6 inches bigger.
I will be exchanging this for a MBD-X8DTH-iF-O board instead, which both Supermicro and Newegg agree is E-ATX form factor. In addition, I will be verifying the form factor with the vendor before I purchase. I expected better from Newegg.

This board is EEATX not EATX
Reviewed By: Sandon on 11/24/2009
Tech Level: high - Ownership: less than 1 day
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Awesome monster board. Support 144GB of memory has Two x16 pci-express slots and an abundant of other slots
Cons: Board is EEATX not EATX
Other Thoughts: Luckily I realized it before it even arrived when checking on supermicro's site. The inaccuracy of the form factor isn't really newegg's fault because supermicro also lists it as Extended ATX on the product page but if you go up one level (on the big list of products) it will properly be listed as Enhanced E-ATX.
Enhacned Extended ATX (The form factor of this board) has an extra 1.68 inches at the top of it which means it wouldn't fit in my large Norco RPC 4020 case. This case has 20 hotswap drive bays and alternative cases with that many hot swap bays are atleast $1000 and far to loud so I instead ordered the MBD-X8DTH-iF-O which only has 12 instead of 18 DIMM slots and was $30 more. Also it has no full length PCI-E x16 slots which was unfortunate. I really wanted this motherboard but I simply can't use an E-EATX motherboard.
I will be contacting supermicro so they update their product page as well.

Excellent white-box server motherboard
Reviewed By: Erik Carlseen on 10/26/2009
Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: Very stable board with lots of RAM capacity. Possibly the best ESXi white-box board available today (late 2009). See my review for the MBD-X8DAH+-F-O for more detailed thoughts.
Cons: Lacks IPMI management.
Note the size / configuration restrictions. Read the manual before you buy! See my review for the MBD-X8DAH+-F-O for more detailed thoughts.
Other Thoughts: See my review for the MBD-X8DAH+-F-O for more detailed thoughts. If you're putting together a server, you should almost certainly use that board instead. It's the same thing, but with superior remote management capabilities. The difference in price will cover itself the first time you use it.
