4 out of 5 eggsGood entry level server board

Pros: Cheap.
Can use regular desktop CPUs.
Seems pretty fast and stable.
Minimal driver requirements.

Cons: Has SERIOUS issues with add-on RAID controllers. Reading online this is an ongoing problem. However, my HP P400 controllers aren't the most compatible cards by any means, but we shall see how my new Areca card goes once it comes in.

Other Thoughts: If you install the Intel NIC drivers you can team the two onboard NICs and run a single 2Gb connection if your switch supports it.

There are known compatibility issues with the second NIC model and VMWare ESX installs. Community drivers are available to make it work, but it is a bit of a hack. I am using mine with Windows 2008 R2 though and have no issues with NICs.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat economy server board

Pros: Great entry-level server board, can't beat the price. Have used ~11 of these for different customers, never had a failure.

Not sure what the previous reviewer is talking about:

-works perfectly with Server 2008-R2

-I always install the latest RST driver(64bit)- no issues there

-I use LSI MegaRAID cards- no BIOS tweaking required

Cons: Haven't really found any yet- it simply does what it is supposed to.

Other Thoughts: Have tried it with Server 2012 Eval, runs great, but I am still using 2008-R2 for customer systems for the moment.

4 out of 5 eggsGood value, however...

Pros: I am using this board for a WHS 2011 Server. It's connected to 2-4 bay backplanes 4-1TB drives on RAID 5, 2-1TB drives on stand alone, 2 hot spares). Rock solid stability with a Xeon E3 3.1 GHz 8GB ECC RAM.

Cons: My original intent was to install Win 2008 R2 Server, but it isn't supported Strange that it supports WHS 2011 which is built on 2008 R2. Intel RST isn't supported in 64 bit, it will break the OS beyond repair and a reinstall is the only option. No printed manual, just a quick guide-useless.

Other Thoughts: Only ECC RAM is supported, but if you do your research, that isn't a problem. BIOS needed extensive tweaking to recognize a secondary drive controller (SIL 3132).

2 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: price, features, size

Cons: Board will not power up. Standby power indicator is on, but nothing further. No beeps, no attempt to even spin the cpu fan.

Other Thoughts: the ground pin for the reset switch shows 3.3v, but ground for the power switch is correct. Something isn't right.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Board for Cheap

Pros: I am using this board to support my home server. The features built into the board are nice, for the price point. I come from an environment where we use DL580 G7's.. so I was really looking for the features supported on those boards.. but budget steered me towards this board. In place of using the Xeon CPU I am using the i3-2120T. This is setup in a small case with a 420W PSU.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: For the price this is a good board. There is better out there but the price for this board is tough to beat.. if size is a concern.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat motherboard

Pros: Features, supports the E3 Xeon at a decent price.

Cons: ECC Unbuffered memory

Other Thoughts: The only real issue i have with this motherboard is the memory it supports. ECC memory, unbuffered, which is quite uncommon in a server...

4 out of 5 eggsNice economy server board.

Pros: All the features I needed for a new economy server, supports the less expensive E3 Xeons.

Cons: None that weren't my fault. :) See other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: Make sure your case supports MicroATX. I used it in a Supermicro case (CSE-825MTQ-R700LPB) and the power cables to the fans were too short. I had to order longer cables (CBL-0088L). ALSO, make sure your RAM is both ECC and unregistered non-buffered (it seems like an odd combination, but Newegg carries it).
