1 out of 5 eggs*Read before purchasing* Key information lacking on product details!

Pros: Fairly feature rich for the price point.

Cons: Requires a proprietary power supply to operate with both CPU sockets populated!

This is not disclosed by Newegg or even clearly at the manufacturers website!

Other Thoughts: As stated above, if you plan on running both sockets on this board you must purchase a proprietary power supply to do so. This isn't disclosed but for a single sentence in the owners manual for the product line on the manufacturers website!

More importantly, the model number listed here isn't the precise model number. In order to get that you have to boot to BIOS - where it is explicit in the model number, which then can be compared to the manufacturers documents on the power supply issue.

We went through two boards before we uncovered this information, with help from SuperMicro.

5 out of 5 eggsGood, Reliable Board

Pros: Easy to install and it's been running solid for about a year. BIOS, firmware and IPMI are easy to upgrade remotely. Enough PCI slots for most people's network/HBA needs.

Cons: CPU pins are easy to disturb. It was reporting less memory for one of the CPUs until i discovered a pin was slightly bent when I installed the CPU

Other Thoughts: I've never had an issue with supermicro or AMD so i'll continue to use them.

4 out of 5 eggsRock solid motherboard - Supermicro tech support is 5 stars

Pros: Rock stable, this motherboard, like most Supermicro stuff is meant to run 24/7 and you can count on it. Ive had the motherboard for about 3 months now, running 24/7 with moderate to severe processing levels and so far nothing has gone wrong. The IPMI is also nice to remotely manage the server should the OS go bad (reboot, shutdown, poweroff, etc) and also to see real time sensor readings. The product is also shipped with all necessary accessories and construction/assembly quality seems to be very high.

The only thing I would recommend if you think you may need SAS is to get the bigger option of this mobo, the H8DCL-6F that is identical other than the SAS ports.

Supermicro's tech support is 5 stars, Ive contacted them for part compatibility and they were replying to my emails even on a Friday night with detailed instructions!

Cons: Doesn't have SAS ports but I guess its not really a CON since there is an option available, same mobo but with SAS ports: H8DCl-6F.

A big drawback is the lack of SATA 3 ports. I however believe this is due to AMD's chipset limitations rather than a Supermicro decision.. Easy to overcome, add a IBM M-1015 SAS card and get an extra 8 SATA3 ports when flashed to IT mode. Minus an egg for that.

The memory performance is also not so great, depending on your initial RAM arrangement, if you add more than 64GB, the RAM automatically falls to 1066MHz from 1600MHz, thats a HUGE drop. They say this board supports up to 256GB but IMO unless you are willing to sacrifice memory performance dramatically, this board only supports 64GB. For a dual socket board, thats not much. I also believe this is because of the AMD chipset and not because of Supermicro or this board specifically..

Other than that, I wish the mobo had the next form factor, it would be easier to connect the 6 SATA2 drives and all other cables. Not worth taking an egg off for that.

Finally, it could have an extra 2 or 4 SATA ports for a total of 8 or 10.... That'd be nice but I guess for most applications 6 drives is enough, otherwise get an expansion card. Not worth taking an egg off for that.

Other Thoughts: Its a nice entry level server motherboard that packs all of Supermicro's qualities but has some limitations in regards to drive connectivity and memory performance which are unfortunately critical core topics.. For a dual socket board and a price tag over $300, you could expect more or better performing features.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: I got this board maybe a little over a month ago. It has been running at 100% load for that whole time, and there hasn't been a single problem.

There is a good number of SATA ports, and there is an IDE slot for older drives. I also like the ATX form factor. Makes.

Cons: When installing an OS i had some trouble. Ubuntu 12.04LTS and before would give me i/o errors upon install, but 13.04 worked without problems.

Other Thoughts: Overall, im happy with this board and id be a fool not to expect at least some problems along the way. I give it 5 eggs
