5 out of 5 eggsGreat Motherboard A+

Pros: Not the cheapest motherboard but im really happy with it considering what I paid for my CPUs. Also works with CrossFire witch I didnt expect.

Cons: Wish it was less $$$
Wish it had more usb ports on back panel
It has SATA 2(but has SAS2 and cables for it)

Other Thoughts: I was looking at this and the ASUS board but decided to get this one for more Pci-E expansion. I paid around $130 for TWO AMD Opteron 6276s and I love them. My friend was bragging about his system and then I should him my system and then he stopped XD

3 out of 5 eggsCapable but aging model, USB 3.0 gift is a nice update

Pros: Came with a USB 3 controller card as a "Free gift". This is nice since the board only supports USB 2 natively.
DDR3 1600 support where many alternatives are limited to 1333.
3 full PCI-Express slots.
3 LAN ports is nice. You can daisy chain or in/out with one port still available for other tasks, IPMI, etc.
18 or 20 total power phases should keep things cool and stable. I'd guess MBTF to be well over 5 years at which point many departments will be trading up anyway.
Several options for storage interfaces. Onboard USB ports, SAS, etc.

Cons: DOA.
Lack of legacy PCI slots.

Quality control is hit or miss from what I'm finding through online research. Some boards appear to be reworked. A few components, among many good ones, are crooked or have iffy looking solder.

NB/SB coolers look very cheap and may not be upgradeable due to PCI-E interference with NB1. SB cooler is particularly small. I would be sure to monitor chipset temps if running a heavy load. Intel GbE chip looks oddly naked without a cooler on its exposed die. Those running near the hardware limits might consider monitoring temperatures or asking SM about cooling options that would not void warranty.

Other Thoughts: It would be nice to see a smaller form factor in ATX layout for 4U "desktop" workstations, maybe sacrificing a 16x and 4x PCI-E slot. Current alternatives are proprietary 1U.

Lack of basic audio capability limits this largely to 1U rackmount with few alternatives for workstations. A PCI-E add-on could be used, but that's another $30 that could go toward something more important then it shouldn't cost more than $5 to have included a cheap CMI chip. I'm putting this here rather than cons because it can be a non-issue depending on application.

It's difficult to say much more without a working board. At this price point, my client is heavily leaning toward an alternative (tyan) rather than a SM replacement. If she decides on a replacement, I'll update this after bench testing.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent product

Pros: Outstanding IO capabilities
Lots of cooling options

Cons: USB 2.0 only (I have no 3.0 capable devices so don't really care)
lsi_sas2.sys driver is buggy

Other Thoughts: Fully loaded in Thermaltake X9 with 10 drives, very quiet. Dual Opteron 6230 with Noctua coolers. Currently estimate can easily run 20 x Hyper-V VMs.

5 out of 5 eggsBad Mobo

Pros: I rated this high because that's what this motherboard deserves. However, if I rated it by how it actually worked out of the box, it would have gotten a 0 rating. I have many other Supermicro motherboards/products, I cannot say enough about the typical quality, design, support, and ease of installing and getting a new computer running.

Cons: So here's the problem, Supermicro QA/QC people failed to do their job when this motherboard was boxed for shipping to distributors. There is obvious damage to both CPU sockets and when inspected under a stereo microscope, it is damage that can only occur during an automated probe session or the two CPU sockets were damaged prior to PC board assembly. The really downside in my case is the 1.5 years on the shelf prior to my installing the motherboard then finding out it didn't work.

Other Thoughts: Took picture through microscope eyepiece showing socket damage, thought about the process I used during assembly and considering the dimensional stats of the CPU contact in the socket, I don't have anything small enough to damage one time at a time. PCB assembly knowledge tells me only one of two scenarios could cause this damage, automated probing, or socket was damaged condition from supplier. I am willing to supply pictures to Supermicro if they are interested to see them.

5 out of 5 eggsPretty DANG stable

Pros: Very stable, very well designed board. The SAS RAID 1 has performed perfectly up to this point, though I've lost TWO of my hard drives recently--both in a RAID 1 array (two seperate arrays) But I can't blame the mobo for that as far as I can tell.

This is my 2nd production server build using SBS 2011 Standard. I only put ONE CPU in, and 64G RAM so half the PCI slots are not in use! Remember that....CPU's split the controll of the slots!!! Know what slots are HOT and what ones are NOT if you only use ONE CPU!!!!

I bought that little Yootoo Modem for the fax service and it works just fine with the windows 7 driver.

This server is as much SBS as it is SuperMicro.

Exchange, Sharepoint, paperless fax, massive file share, ...this board handles it all without a single hiccup anywhere. I'd buy it again without hesitation for another server build.

Cons: Some slots are dead if you only use a single CPU slot. Not a huge deal but it's something I had to dig around to figure out...and as a guy I don't like to READ instruction manuals!!! Honestly I can't take any eggs of for that but thought it might be funny.

This board is huge. The case I bought for it simply doesn't allow for me to use both CPU's so plan for a MASSIVE case for this one. It's still worth every penny to date even though I've had trouble with my RAID drives...again I can't blame the mobo for this.

Other Thoughts: I put Noctua's cooler on my AMD cpu and loaded up with 6 hard drives and I loved building this server. I loved it so much I put one of cold cathode tube lights in the case to show off for the customer....They never noticed or saw it but I know it's there and thus my epic-ness stands for my own self to see when I go work up at that office. Ya...I went there.

If you're new to servers, this is a GREAT first build for you. If you're experienced at server builds, this is a GREAT board for a small law firm or doctor's office.

5 out of 5 eggsWery good

Pros: It's the best decision for amd G34 socket!
For best perfomance use 2 CPU's and 4 line memory's per CPU.
There is SAS2 controller.

Cons: USB 2
SATA II (but you have SAS2)

5 out of 5 eggsWOW!

Pros: Works like a dream. Had an issue with my powersupply. --> Called technical support and got a human on the first try! <-- The support was courteous and professional. He also told me how to get an RMA if I needed it. But I didn't, with the technicians help, I found the issue and am happily on my way running Ubuntu! This is a professional grade motherboard and produces uncompromising results (ie speed, great build quality, and superb support).

Cons: Could have a usb3.0 port or two, but I like the rest of the features so much, it does not really matter. Some Linux (Ubuntu) support is a bit sketchy and does not support the Raid features.

Other Thoughts: For normal usage this truly a great motherboard that has great support. However, it is imperative that you consult their operating system compatability list first. This board is a big investment and you may have to choose your non Windows OS version carefully. However, the board is built beautifully and functions flawlessly. I am truly thrilled with it.

4 out of 5 eggsREAD THE MANUAL....

Pros: Out of the box this baby worked perfect. The bios was the newer one supporting the 6300 AMD Cpu's (I used a Opteron 6378) and left the CPU 2 slot EMPTY. Never had the slightest hiccup during multiple installs. This server is about to go into production and I've used the RAID SAS to create 2 volumes on this board and they are rock solid. The website is lacking in info for which drivers, but I just went with the drivers on the included CD and have had zero issues.

Cons: Not REALLY a true con, as I'm sure other Mobo's have this issue, but you NEED to download the manual as it's not included in the box.

Some things of note: If you only have 1 cpu in use as I dod, then you only get 3 of the six PCIe slots working as they are split between them. In my case I have a Noctua block which totally blocks my ability to use the closest PCIe x16 slot, ...that leaves me only 2 other slots to use, and note they are NOT all in a row, they split them up....Now if I were the guy designing this board, I most likely would have done the same thing so I can't fault them, but be sure you READ THE MANUAL so you know what slots you'll have access to ...In my case I added a modem and USB 3 card...and thankfully they work just fine so that x16 slot isn't needed.

Other Thoughts: This board is adorable. My Noctua cooling block keeps my CPU at 29C nearly all the time, and I put it in a Silverstone Fortress case.....It's as if they were meant to go together....worth every penny!

You likely won't regret this board as a purchase.
