5 out of 5 eggsGreat Workstation/Server Board

Pros: Has a great design, and is a stable server board.

Cons: Not reall a con but as another poster mentioned you need to buy narrow ILM heatsinks- but this is all worth it with the board space you save.

Other Thoughts: I love this product and would recommend anyone looking buy it.

4 out of 5 eggsGood dual CPU board

Pros: Runs great with 2 Xeon E5-2620's. The only reason I docked an egg was because I'm using this rig to do visual effects and simulations and put in a GTX 780 TI for GPU accelerated benefits. The heatsink across from all the PCI express slots was too high for the video card to click in all the way, so I actually had to break off one of the RAM slots side pieces and put the card in the topmost PCI slot to make it fit. That being said, everything has been working great and 1 slot doesn't really make much of a difference when you can have up to 512 GB of RAM.

Cons: Bigger video cards may not fit perfect because of the heatsink across from the PCI slots.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid

Pros: Solid server mobo.

Cons: 1. No CD included.
2. Beware when buying cooler that you buy a narrow ilm cooler and not a square ilm cooler.
3. No Linux Drivers that SCU raid controller.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat HPC board, but: NARROW ILM

Pros: FIRST: THIS BOARD USES THE "NARROW ILM" TYPE OF LGA 2011 SOCKET. This is not a flaw, but it means that most LGA 2011 CPU coolers will not fit; you will need one that comes with a bracket for the narrow ILM, such as the SuperMicro SNK-P0050AP4.

I bought this board for a home file server and to do some HPC on, and I'm quite pleased. It was easy to install (after I got the right CPU cooler, heh) and has the features I wanted -- lots of DIMM slots, plenty of SATA ports, and great remote monitoring.

I don't understand the other reviewer's comment about PCI-E cards colliding with the CPU cooler. There seems to me to be plenty of room. If this is a concern for you, I'd suggest pulling up the user manual from the SuperMicro site and taking a close look at the board layout. Use of a relatively small CPU cooler, such as the SNK-P0050AP4 I mentioned above, should help with this too.

Cons: none that I can see

3 out of 5 eggsweak vga connector

Pros: powerful gen-3 system. IPMI is excellent. Plenty of gen-3 slots.

Cons: wimpy VGA connector - breaks easily
cannot get bifurcation to work on any slot

Other Thoughts: I use this on a test bench. Unless you have the built-in vga connector solidly attached to a chassis or something, you are going to break it easily. Needs a more solid connector like previous Supermicro boards.

I have a board with 4x4 bifurcation that works in a competitors MB, but not in this one. A newer version of the bios made very significant changes to the bifurcation options, but it still doesn't work.

3 out of 5 eggsNever got past install

Pros: Looks to be great build quality, and fits the E-ATX like it is stated on their website.

Cons: Never got to install due to PCI-E 16x overlapping CPU-1 by about 2 inches with a Quadro 4000 graphics card. I don't see how any card would fit there in the first place as close as it is to CPU-1. Partially my fault for ordering this hoping things wouldn't be as tight as they looked.

Other Thoughts: Since the 2011 chipset has only a few boards out there I am going to try the next model up the X9DR3-F. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me I suppose...
