1 out of 5 eggsGreat motherboard but unsatisfactory RMA

Pros: I have had several super micro motherboard and love the IPMI. Easy setup and lot of room for add ons

Cons: The motherboard did not look new when I got it and after testing it seems to be not functioning correctly. So I put it back in the bag with the CPU protective cover and send it back for RMA but it was denied saying the CPU pins were bend. I know for a fact it was working fine when I sent it back. So I'm not happy with the RMA process and will buy it somewhere else more reliable.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent Little Board with Flaws

Pros: •4 LAN ports
•Integrated graphics

Cons: •Bad driver support—some missing
•Graphics not great—don't have full support for Windowns 7 or Server 2008 R2 aero
•No integrated audio
•Boot-loops sometimes

Other Thoughts: I bought 5 of these boards for servers—deployed 3 and have 2 spares. I was drawn to the fact that they were about the only Micro-ATX Xeon boards with 4 LAN ports, ECC RAM, and integrated graphics that I could find. NIC Teaming has worked well for me with them. Graphics aren't great—e.g. they don't fully support Windows 7 Aero—but they're integrated, so it's fine enough, and they can drive my 1600x900 pixel display and they work fine with my KVM switch. I never used the IPKVM, so I can't comment on it. I didn't notice when buying, but there's no sound, which isn't UNcommon for a server board.

Sometimes the BIOS boot gets stuck in a loop, but never more than a couple times—though I am a little worried that it will get stuck ad infinitum one day. An update would probably solve that.

Driver support from SuperMicro was a huge disappointment, as some are missing altogether, and some are only available for certain OSs. I deployed Win7, Win2008R2, and Win2012R2, and ended up having to use some Win7 drivers on 2008R2 (and maybe 2012R2, if memory serves).

Hindsight: I would have gone with something else, like maybe a mini-ITX solution with better driver-support and graphics and a PCIe NIC for teaming—as it would have been a similar price but in a nice small package, a bit less power, and better driver support, without much of a performance hit (or anything noticeable). I'll stick with these for the next few years though.

Note that some drivers are missing for Server 2012 R2: "PCI Data Acquisition and Signal Processing," and "SM Bus Controller." I was able to function without them, although I have no PCI Express components.

2 out of 5 eggssome problems

Pros: Good specs

Cons: I see inconsistencies in the boot process. Sometimes my drive show up in the boot menu, sometimes I don't. Plugging in a flash drive to boot from completely removes other hard drives from the boot menu. Could not boot into a ms-dos flash drive without removing all the other hard drives from their sata connections. I am not sure if I messed something up in the assembly process, but it appears there is something wrong with the sata controller. Had this thing a week and then these symptoms appeared.

I also see a lot of boot time errors like: no root device found, mdadm: cannot create device. All leading me to think that something is wrong with the communication with hard drives.

Other Thoughts: My system consists of Xeon 1245v3, 3 WD SE drives in software raid, 16 gig kingston ram, and OCZ ssd. Running Ubuntu server 14.04

I am going to RMA this board and see if a new one has the same sata problems.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Server Board!

Pros: Very happy with Supermicro server boards. I never have any problems with them and they are rock solid. This board had no reviews yet, but it was perfect for me to act as a domain controller. One of the most valuable features of Supermicro motherboards is free built-in IPMI with ip kvm. I installed Windows 2012 Server using only the ip kvm console from my laptop. Only have to plug in ethernet and power to the motherboard. Attached to the Win 2012 Server iso image and didn't even need to install the OS using a disc. Using two 500GB RE4 drives with built-in Intel Raid 1. Using Newegg part#N82E16820239223 for 2x4GB RAM sticks. Great product!

Cons: None.
