5 out of 5 eggsA+++ Excellent MB for NAS use.

Pros: -lots of slots for memory, can put huge amount of ram for ZFS
-Option to use Rdimm and LRdimm
-Lots of PCIe to put raid cards or HBA cards and more ethernet cards
-LGA2011v3 allows very powerful processing if needed
-IPMI is invaluable to check health of system and do reboots if system crashes.
-lots of onboard sata

Cons: -nothing, maybe price? but if you're building a server, you should know it's not cheap.

Other Thoughts: Get this if you want to build a huge NAS array for ZFS, lots of ram and lots of drives.
Don't cheap out if you care about your data. ECC memory is a must for ZFS.

5 out of 5 eggsVery stable for Freenas

Pros: Stable and booted right into Freenas.

Cons: Price? 1st time buying server hardware.

Other Thoughts: - this motherboard
- Xeon E5-2603v3
- 32gb Crucial DDR4 ECC RAM
- 4x HGST 3TB NAS in RAID5
- Define R4 case

5 out of 5 eggsBrilliant board, 2011v3 heat sink different ut READ how did i tackle it

Pros: sooo nice of a motherboard. i needed boar to handle 128GB DDR4 ECC and posibility to go to 256GB DDR4 ECC

bought hynix 128GB DDR4 ECC (16GBx8). Primary OS Adata 128GB SSD. secondary 2TB SSHD by seagate.

i tried to use Corsair H60i radiaor with it, but alas, the heatsink bolt pattern was different :(
wen to Dollar General, bought a hard rubber called "Rubber Tie-Downs with hooks". matched it to bolt patterns, cut it accordingly, poked hold in the rubber to go on bolts and Voila!!! H60i is now installed. its not letting the temp go beyond 44 degrees.however i moued the radiator on the rear using the exit flow fan plus the includd fan probably thats why its running cold..

Cons: No audio card on-board.
Also, you MUST go in BIOS and under SATA 0 where your primary SSD drive is conneced, specifically select "SSD drive. otherwise i wouldnt boo with it. but it took 3 minutes to figure this out.

Other Thoughts: Guys, this is by far the cheapest board for what it does. handles up to 512GB LDDR4 ECC or 256GB DDR4 ECC. i used it for my 128GB DDR4 ECC hynix because i needed to build 10 servers inside as virtual servers using directed IO and 8GB virtual memory per server. if you are a gamer, then this is NOT the motherboard for you.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent motherboard

Pros: Lots of expansion, good layout.

Cons: Some of the components were a little bent and I'm wondering if I received a used one (although I purchased new). Documentation could be better.

Other Thoughts: One thing I missed when ordering this motherboard is that you'll need a Narrow ILM heatsink. The typical heatsinks that fit LGA2011 will not work.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Motherboard

Pros: Stable works good

Cons: Newegg needs to correct the memory requirements and the LGA2011 in the detail bullets - this is a revision 3 motherboard!!

4 out of 5 eggsIncorrect RAM Pin listed by Newegg

Pros: Board seems great.

Cons: Board has incorrect PIN Count listed on newegg's site.

From SuperMicro's site.

Memory Capacity
8x 288-pin DDR4 DIMM slots
Up to 512GB DDR4 ECC LRDIMM
Up to 256GB DDR4 ECC RDIMM
Memory Type
2133/1866/1600/1333MHz ECC DDR4 SDRAM 72-bit, 288-pin (RDIMM/LRDIMM) / 284-pin gold-plated DIMMs
DIMM Sizes
RDIMM: 32GB, 16GB, 8GB, 4GB
Memory Voltage
1.2 V
Error Detection
Corrects single-bit errors
Detects double-bit errors (using ECC memory)

It takes 288 PIN ram. Newegg has on their site, two different specs. 240 PIN and 284 PIN. These are both wrong as of 5/28/2015

Other Thoughts: Don't make the shipping + restocking fee mistake that I did.
THANKS NEWEGG /s

4 out of 5 eggsSome design issues

Pros: Great motherboard for price, dependable, used for workstation.

Cons: CPU fan connector is at the bottom edge of the motherboard, make sure CPU fan cable is >12 inches (SUPERMICRO SNK-P0050AP4 works). Make sure heatsink is narrow ILM capable. Default configurations make CPU fan work at 100% if fan speed is lower 800 RPM, means when CPU usage is low CPU fan is at 100% for like 5 mins and when it gets back to <800 RPM and starts again that loop. This is due to misconfiguration, ipmitool is your help.
As all reviews say expect motherboard with bent VGA ports, Supermicro can make great motherboards, but packaging sucks.

Other that above said everything works as expected.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid value

Pros: IPMI with dedicated NIC - Full remote management including console
Plenty of PCIe
10 onboard AHCI SATA ports
Works perfectly under RHEL6 and System Rescue CD (everything I need was detected on the stock kernels)

Cons: Requires a Narrow ILM cooler. A standard 2011 cooler will not work.

Other Thoughts: Compatible components (what I have that worked):
RAM (Crucial 16GB RDIMM x 8 = 128GB):
Model #: CT16G4RFD4213
Item #: N82E16820148855CVF

Cooler (expensive but extremely quiet):
Model #: NH-U9DXi4
Item #: N82E16835608042

What you need to know:
- I was only able to get the remote console going using Java 8u31 (the latest at the time of writing)
- If you're getting "Connection Failed" when trying to connect to the console, disconnect 1080p monitors from the VGA port and cold restart. You may need to reset IPMI too. Lower resolution monitors don't seem to be a problem.
- Set the IPMI type to "Dedicated". Google why the default, "Failover" is problematic.
- Some useful CPU settings are disabled in the BIOS by default (eg. AES NI). Spend some time enabling the CPU features that are applicable.
