Great Board
- Pros: Board is an overclockers dream, amazing amount of options to get maximum performance from your components. In testing and tweaking with the board I've had a QX9650, and an E8400 at 4 gz on air easily. I've also used two different sets of memory, mushkin ddr3 1800 (2 x1 gb), and Corsair Dominatior ddr3 1800 (2x2gb) running from 1600 - 1800 depending on fsb. Never had any trouble posting, and the motherboad comes with two socketed bios chips, plus automatic overclocking recovery that works flawlessly. Board has worked so well in testing, I'm moving it to my watercooling setup this weekend. Board layout is excellent. Must know what you're doing when working with this board, steep learning curve, but absolutly worth it for the performance you can achieve.
- Cons: As others have stated, top piece of water cooling for northbridge is andonized aluminum, but it is coated with some kind of substance, so no aluminum is actually exposed to water, but just replace the nozzles with brass fittings, and the system should be free of galvanic corrosion. Audio card not great, but I use an after market card.
Manual could be a little more informative, but the information is out there on the forums. The included northbridge fan sits to high mounted, couldn't get a Zalman 9700 mounted because of clearance issues, so I didn't use the northbridge fan while testing, but mb temp never got above 45 degrees Will be a none issue when I change to water cooling.
- Other Thoughts: Usually don't review products I buy here, but the negative comments on this board by some noobs prompted me to answer some comments.
Error code meanings on the board are easily found by going to Phoenix/Award bios web site, codes are in hexedecimal and the guides explain them (I've never had any errors), but researched just in case. Usually you mount the motherboard, then add cards, so why do you need to get to the motherboard screw? Why do you need to get to the battery? Between the on board clear cmos button, it also has a cmos clear jumper, and the crashfree bios recovery. Using an after market sound card clears the area. Most motherboard ram slot releases are blocked by graphics cards nowdays, at least in all my other motherboards, again no big deal. People saying they have high tech knowledge when its easily apparent they don't understand much.
Error Correction on previous post
- Pros: Prime 95 stable for hours, OCCT stable for hours, Memtest stable for hours. Boots every time unless I push a little to far, but overclocking recovery kicks in, never had to reset cmos.
- Cons: None, need to have good overclocking experience
- Other Thoughts: Realized I made a typo on my previous post. North Bridge temp, not motherboard temp never got above 45, no water cooling, no fan mounted just open to air flow from case.
Anandtech has a quick review of this motherboard, with a more detailed review to follow.

- Pros: 3 PCI-E slots, great locations of all the onboard components. Reliable, tons of overclocking options.
- Cons: First, the NB fan doesn't fit the hole for which it was designed. If you're watercooling this isn't an issue, but for a fan cooled system it's a pain. The fan also intersected my Zalman CPU turbine, so I had to bend some heat-panels to get it in right.
Second, the RAM voltage out of the box was incorrect, way under what it should have been. This caused huge issues for me for the first 3 days while I tried to diagnose what was wrong. Third, the onboard sound is awful. Fourth, the manual is practically useless. I had to do a lot of searching online to find some of the more common settings for the board. Fifth, there is no front-panel audio connector on the board.
- Other Thoughts: I did a lot of research before deciding on this board and I wish I wouldn't have made the choice. Of the last 3 computers I've built, this is by far the worst motherboard I have bought.
Great X48 Motherboard
- Pros: 1. Water Cool Ready NB
2. DDR3 Support 3. Sonar Sound Card (better than regular onboard sound) 4. Great overclocker 5. Not mentioned or pictured is the PVC board for mounting the board on in a bench testing environment 6. Dog Tags 7. 16X 16X CrossfireX support 8. Comes with a cool 120mm fan 9. Lot of fan headers. 6 in all. 10. Price was a steal. Couldn't pass up this offer
- Cons: 1. Wish there was a PCI-E X1 or X4 slot underneath the Sonar sound connection just in case I wanted to install a different sound card.
2. The SATA ports should have been turned the other way so the SATA cables can be easier to route.
- Other Thoughts: I bought this because of the price. Great upgrade for me. I had an ASUS P5Q Pro before. I've got a Q9550 with Mushkin DDR3 ram and Sapphire HD 4850 in CrossFireX. I have an i7 rig using the Foxconn Bloodrage and love it so I decided to buy this for my wife's computer.
pretty nice
- Pros: gets nice and fast. 2 esata ports on back. easily removeable heatpipe system. drivers for this board are built in to win7 if i remember correctly.
- Cons: 1. issues with sleep mode.
2. when using esata make sure to turn the drive on before the computer, or it might hang. 3. sometimes overclocking fails for no real reason, but it can be reinstated easily by loading an OC GEAR profile
- Other Thoughts: i have an e8400 @ 3.82 ghz (450 x 8.5) stable
cpu vs mem speed -> 1:4 333MHz cpu clock skew - 300 ps cpu clock amplitude - 800 mV cpu voltage 1.350 V vdroop comp. - off NB voltage 1.281 V this system is WATERCOOLED, both on cpu and nb, so dont go and fry your equipment by using these settings unless you have enough thermal dissipation power. with an apogee gtz and swiftech mcw-30, dual 120mm radiator (black ice xtreme, i think) with enermax magma's on pull (theyre quiet and good, but not superpowered) fluid xp+ (non conductive)
