5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Customer Service !!!

Pros: I left a negative review as you can see and Foxconn supplied a phone number for me to call. Turns out they had moved offices and the Foxconn number on Newegg and the forms on FoxconnChannel.com didn't work. But I called the number left by their tech support, got an answer on the first ring, got an RMA number and sent the bricked board in via USPS. That was last Friday and today, 7 days later, I received an brand spanking new H87MX-D with the latest bios. Thank you Foxconn! Foxconn customer service is as good as it gets based on my experience with them.

Cons: None - nada - zero.

1 out of 5 eggsFail

Pros: Looks good.

Cons: First bios update using "liveupdate" utility from Foxconn bricked the motherboard. That's a first for me after so many nice Foxconn boards. Out $75. Out Foxconn.

Other Thoughts: $75 bucks lost because Foxconn can't CM their BIOS updates? Okay - now I know. Goodbye Foxconn. You were awesome for a while!

2 out of 5 eggsIt's Foxconn

Pros: You get exactly what you pay for. No extra features here.

Cons: One of the RAM ports failed after 31 days exactly; lucky me. This board seems to be missing a handful of common features (see below).

Other Thoughts: I couldn't find any settings to adjust CPU voltage. I looked through the entirety of the BIOS, but it seems like it was cut for no apparent reason. Also, the fan settings had to be configured with Smart Fan settings as opposed to straight thermal limits.

Assuming you don't get a bad board, it will function exactly as advertised. This thing comes with no extra features; it's about as bare-bones as you can get.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
We apologize for the experience you had with your Foxconn product. You can set Turbo Mode-enable in BIOS under CPU Configuration .Turbo mode allows processor cores to run faster than its marked frequency in specific condition.
Thank you & Best Regards

2 out of 5 eggsDon't be Fooled

Pros: Solid budget board that's inexpensive.

Cons: Don't be fooled into thinking this has all the bells and whistles of an H87 chipset.. While technically it's an H87 under the hood, Foxconn chooses not to incorporate many of the essential features.

My biggest gripe is the lack of a USB 3.0 header for the front panel port(s). How many modern cases lack this? Foxconn gives you TWO old-school serial ports, one parallel port, and no front panel USB 3.0? There is NO excuse for this omission on an H87 powered motherboard.

It screams cheap, cheap, cheap. The board is silkscreened as both the H81MX/H83MX. So it's essentially the same as the H81MX (in features) except that you get SATA 6.0 on the (only) four SATA ports. I would have been better off (for my application) with a cheaper H81 based board.

I [mistakenly] assumed that a front USB 3.0 was a given when you pay extra to move up to H87-- but apparently I need to read every last detail.

Other Thoughts: There's no arguing that the predicament I'm in is my own fault-- I should have read all the little nitty gritty details. But I've been building PC's for a long time, and with respected manufacturers, I have always been safe just skimming over those things that can be considered a standard feature of a chipset.

With the move from H81 to H87 comes a fair bump in price- Who wants to pay for extra for that chip and not reap the rewards? It'd be like me buying a Hemi engine and Chrysler putting a governor on, limiting me to the acceleration of the 3.6L Pentastar V6.

In my opinion, Foxconn pulled a fast one. Use the same board, charge extra for the fancy chip, and take out a few features that might add a couple bucks to the cost (what's a USB header and associated electrical traces cost? Not much!) and use the H87 as marketing to pull in customers.

In the end, the only one that loses here is Foxconn. I'll go and spend the extra $15 and get an add-on USB3.0 interface card with a front header on it for this build. Meawhile Foxconn just lost a) any potential future purchases from me and b) my possible recommendations to others.

Next time I'll use Asrock, MSI, and countless others who use a little common sense (if a customer pays extra for something, give them the essential features of said upgrade). Sometimes saving a couple pennies just isn't worth it. Foxconn should fire the bean counters who decided it was a good idea to design a H87 based board without front USB3.0.

Hopefully this review will help others from falling into this same trap!
