Bent Pins and Door Problems
- Pros: I'm sure it's a great motherboard
- Cons: Door wouldn't shut with the CPU in and there were bent pins when I received the item...
E758 is solid
- Pros: Great Quality, booted up right away with vista 32bit and some corsair 1333 RAM. Great EVGA support.
Great BIOS options -easy OC, and very stable. Power, reset, and clear CMOS buttons on board. Neat temp and error code display! 16x PCI-E2.0 bandwidth when using 2 cards in SLI. Lots of room for gfx upgrades (but not much else in your expansion slots!).
- Cons: I may not actually ever use 3x SLI, maybe this board was too much for me... nah! I don't like the NBridge fan, it runs at high RPM and whines a tiny bit.
With any dual slot gfx card you do block the only PCI-e expansion slot. The first 2 gfx cards will have about 3mm between them if using dual slot (like 2 gtx260s in SLI) so the top one is starved for air -gets HOT!
- Other Thoughts: Using an i7 920 at 3.8GHz stock voltages, idle at 36-39C, up to 61C full load with a CNPS9900. I did have to sand the edge of the zalman HS to fit in this Mobo but it was simple to do. The warranty is the only difference between this and the other E758.
- Pros: Excellent motherboard. I haven't had any problems with my i7 processor. Plenty of expansion slots. The cover for the ports on the back of the case comes with foam/rubber padding, which is a really nice touch. The LED display that shows error codes and the system temperature is really handy. The onboard buttons for power, reset, and CMOS reset can also come in handy. Tons of external ports, and support for even more via your case. Plenty of SATA ports too, there won't be any issues with adding more drives at a later date.
- Cons: The heatsink just to the rear of the processor is a little tall. I had some problems fitting in a larger CPU heatsink/fan. I ended up having to take the fan off of the heatsink and move it up so that it's hanging off of the heatsink by about half of an inch. No big deal, but a little awkward.
Also, the CPU power supply port is behind that heatsink as well. Since that area is already crowded with two heatsinks and a fan, it was difficult to get the 8-pin CPU power connector back there. Might not be an issue if you have smaller hands.
- Other Thoughts: Pricey, but it's definitely a great motherboard with a lot of nice features. I'd buy it again in an instant.
