PCIe anyone??

white Reviewed By: ZachA on 1/27/2010
Rating + 5
Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: The two nForce 200 chips allows 4 out of the 7 PCIe slots to run at a constant x16 reguardless of what is installed in all or some of the other PCIe slots. The other 3 PCIe slots run at a max speed of x8.

Has a small Silent cooling fan mounted to the Heatsink for better cooling.

It includes EVGA's PCB control board.

Is capable of supporting the nest generation of Intel i7 extream CPU's (i7-980X = Six cores) with an easy FREE BIOS update.

Has two on board ATX 8pin power connecters for the Extream Overclocker's out there. (Only one ATX 8pin is required to function normally, the second is for OC'ing)

Comes with EVGA's free Limited Lifetime Warranty upon registering it with in 30days of your order date.
Cons: The manual that comes with the board is the same as the X58 E-760 Classified.

Requires a specialized case with at least 9 PCI slots(10 if you plan on using four double wide GPU's)

No onboard SATA III or USB 3.0
No onboard Optical sound output
Other Thoughts: If you want to run multiple GPU's + other add on PCIe cards this board can't be beat!

I've been an EVGA fan since early 2007 and they always have your back.

Wow! Most incredible!

white Reviewed By: Tnias on 1/8/2010

Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: less than 1 day
Pros: This motherboard is incredible! We know of no other PC motherboard available in this genre where you can buy a 4-way SLI compatible motherboard that will run all four PCI-E 2.0 X 16 slots at 16X. We are not primarily gamers; we produce videos using AVID and Adobe CS4 Master Collection. To use that software at its fullest capacity you need to run NVIDIA Quadro graphics cards; which use CUDA technology to enhance the CPU’s computing power. This motherboard can handle a Quadro card with 3 Tesla cards SLI connected; which is awesome for a board and considering that those GPU cards can cost over $3,000 each, this motherboard’s cost is not out of line. In fact, the mainframe computaion time saved in using such a configuration easily justifies the expense (if you need that kind of computing power).
Cons: Price.
We know we just said the price is not out of line—it's not; it’s just that most people here refer to this motherboard as a gaming platform and the fact that you can save a grand by getting and Asus P6T Deluxe V2 with two top of the line graphics cards (connected with SLI or CrossFireX) and with that run any PC game at its max, what is the point? The extra grand would be better put to use in upgrading that CPU or drive system.

Also, some of the posts here indicated they bought this board to be "future proof"; there is no such thing in computers and likely will never be.

Current technologies that have not made it to hardware yet like PCI-e 3.0, SATA 6GB and USB 3.0 are all missing from this generation. As is new memory architecture starting with DDR5 and simultaneous bi-directional error correcting memory. Both technologies are in use today but are not yet available on any PC motherboard.

Whatever you buy today will be obsolete in three years; count on it.
Other Thoughts: We expect the story about using 4 GTX 295 cards in SLI was a typo because that's impossible).

The proper graphics cards for the scientific and business fields are the NVIDIA Quadro cards backed up by NVIDIA’s Tesla GPU processing cards. That combination turns the desktop PC into a true Supercomputer on your desktop.

Further, it would be nice if people kept the mythological fluff about modifying the motherboards to themselves.
You don’t take a soldering iron to a $500 motherboard because you were too cheap to buy a case made to fit the motherboard. You simply buy the ten slot case. Newegg has several great ones available.

Beyond that, it is awesome that you can buy such a motherboard from Newegg right now, today and build such a Supercomputer. Though it wouldn’t be “future proof”, the ability to solve equations in a second or two at your desktop that a year ago would take a supercomputer weeks or months to solve makes the price of this motherboard insignificant.
