3 out of 5 eggsGreat board but Has ALOT of problems.

Pros: Board is powerful. Nothing else needs to be said.

Cons: Controler's went out within a month of using it.

Other Thoughts: Hoping EVGA will do an RMA for this board otherwise I will not buy again.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Happy---Now...

Pros: Lifetime Warranty, tons of USB ports, dual CPU power connections for overclocking. 24-hour telephone technical support. Circuit board build quality and product packaging are exemplary.

Cons: Support website has far too many .iso updates and site navigation is very poor. Took three calls to telephone technical support before I finally found someone who knew where the install driver for the Marvell SATA-III (the install CD obviously did not contain it---according to Windows 7 x64 Ultimate install program). Without this driver, the SATA III ports were useless---and I wanted to boot from a SATA III SSD.

Other Thoughts: After a couple of long, highly frustrating days getting install sorted out, finally got system up and running. Using 128GB Samsung SATA III SSD for boot drive into Windows and you honestly could not ask for faster performance. The "welcome" splash screen goes by in a blink and you are ready for business.

System:
Intel i7 965 CPU
128 GB Samsung MZ-7PC128D/AM SATA III SSD
1TB WD1002FAEX hard drive
12GB Corsair XMS3 (PC3 12800) DDR3
EVGA GeForce GTX570 2.5GB GDDR5
WD3000GLFS VelociRaptor SATA II hard disk

Windows Experience Index - 7.6
CPU/Memory = 7.6 (not overclocked)
Graphics = 7.9
Gaming graphics = 7.9
Primary Hard disk = 7.9

NOT TOO SHABBY considering the CPU/memory are circa 2008...

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Mobo

Pros: Great mobo. Didn't have to mess with any drivers. Saw everything right away. Comes with a lot of junkware if you like it.

Cons: No space for GPU. I bought this with evga fermi 580 and it was a pain to get in. There is a heatsink right next to the PCI slot. Had to slant it and kind of force it in to get it in. Once it sets, there is link a inch between the heatsink and the GPU. Not a huge problem but was a pain.

5 out of 5 eggsawesome

Pros: i may have only owned this board for a day but i can already tell its good. the debug is spot on the drivers are spot on and it works with perfect stability and speed. (and i even like the pulsing e) i had gotten this board to replace my horrible old rampage extreme 3 which had broke due to poor craftsman ship and poor customer service.( i don't like asus any more but i give second chances) i have a sound card and cd drive from them that works fine is what i mean. but this board beats the rampage 3 on so many levels and i love it and hope to keep it for many years

Cons: the north bridge heat sink is unnecessarily big but no biggy i got around it

Other Thoughts: intel i7 990x (oc 5 ghz)
24 gb corsair vengeance tri channel ddr3 1333 mhz
xfx radeon black edition 7970 (oc 1050 mhz)

1 out of 5 eggsFailsauce

Pros: Looks cool, and Sata 3!

Cons: There is a lingering issue that is occurring with this motherboard and NVidia cards within the first PCIe slot. EVGA doesn't seem to recognize it as an issue so I decided to RMA it. The resolution to this problem is moving the video card out of the first PCIe slot into another, this will allow you to boot into windows, but at the same time it leaves with the a motherboard whose first slot isn't useable unless you want system instablity / lockups.

Other Thoughts: Just not worth the hassle of building / rebuilding a PC with this motherboard until they can fix their issues. I am sorry, but I have two EVGA products, MoBo and Video Card - There should NEVER be an issue with comparability on this front, its your BRAND. If your going to sell it as such, then make sure it WORKS together.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

I am sorry to hear your primary PCIe slot is not working. In general this type of issue is linked to 3 possible scenarios: The board maybe grounding on the case causing the slot to malfunction. For this try the board outside the case on a non-conductive surface. If the issue persists it could be the slot or CPU. Try reseating the CPU and checking for any bent or damaged pins. If the socket looks ok ensure you don't overtighten the heatsink and test again. If you still get no video from the primary slot we can setup a replacement of the board (888)-881-3842

Pros: looks great

Cons: 1. one of the PCIE slots doesn't work, when I plug in the graphic card in the first slot, there is a BIOS beep. When I change it to the third slot, everything works just fine.
2. I don't why the memory cannot work in XMP on this board. I have two sets of CORSAIR DOMINATOR GT 12GB (CMT12GX3M3A2000C9). None of them can work in XMP. I don't know the reason.

Other Thoughts: I bought this board on 10/5/2011, at that time the price was $319.99. I didn't use it until recently, because I didn't have enough money to buy all of the computer components to build a computer at that time. So I chose to buy the motherboard first, since I think EVGA is a good brand and has good quality. But I cannot believe one of the PCIE slots is DOA.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

I do apologize if the PCIe slot is not working properly. The PCIe lanes go directly to the CPU, I would recommend you reseat the CPU and check for any bent or damaged pins. When placing the processor back in ensure you do not over tighten the heatsink. If you get the same results test the board outside the case on a non-conductive surface to rule out a ground fault. If the slot still does not work please contact our 24/7 technical support (888)-881-3842

4 out of 5 eggsGood board

Pros: Lightening fast; tons of BIOS/OC options; solid performance; has pretty cutting edge technology (SATA3, USB3, etc). Triple Channel DDR3! I still can't figure out why this isn't catching on as much as it should be.

Cons: I'm not 100% sure if it's the Award BIOS option or something with my board itself. There is an option for the first PCIe to be 1x (your options are auto, disable, enable) but when throwing in a PCIe-2 video card, I could not get past the Windows Starting screen; the screen would actually hang there but everything would go on in the background just fine (this was with an EVGA GTX550 ti card). I had to move it down to the second PCIe slot to get it to fully function. I was able to find a few other people on the interwebz that were also having this issue (and how I found out to move it down a slot). It does not appear to be an issue with ATI based cards (or so those interweb people say).

Also, download the SATA3 drivers from the EVGA web site and have them burned on a disk/USB so that you can load with Windows setup - made things a lot easier (if you plan on using a SATA3 drive as your primary).

Other Thoughts: I was really looking forward to the SATA3 and a SSD. I was kind of disappointed to see that the SATA is actually an on-board controller and acts separately from the other drives.

I would have preferred this board to have all PCIe slots and not the older ones just wasting space.

I also would have preferred to have the board all SATA3 since it's backward compatible instead of a separate controller.

The first PCIe slot is REALLY close to the heatsink/fan for the North Bridge and getting to the release button is a bit of a challenge.

4 out of 5 eggsHigh Quality Board

Pros: Everything just worked. 24Gb RAM, 2x GTX 570, SSD, etc....

Board is also aesthetically pleasing, but that is not the criteria i used in making my purchase.

Cons: As quite a few people have mentioned, configuration/placement of NB cooler is downright ridiculous. It effectively blocks the use of 140mm fans, or push-pull fans in back, and if you were to use air cooling, you have to use an awkward mount for the heatsink.

Also, why in the world, at this price point, would only 2 SATA ports be SATA III (6Gb) ? That makes no sense.

Other Thoughts: When I started this build, I had both an Asus Rampage and this board to choose from. The Asus is still in the garage. This mobo is the soul of a build that blows away the Windows rating sytem without one single overclocking tweak, either voltage or timing, on 24 Gb 1033 RAM, a 120Gb SSD, and 2 GTX 570's in SLI. (Maybe the i7 970 helps a bit.)

3 out of 5 eggsGood board

Pros: Triple channel DDR and solid performance.

Cons: If you plan to use any of the sealed water cooling solutions, be warned this board has a tall component that will block it from fitting in the rear 120mm fan mount of most cases.

After 9 months of light use, this board has started to lose all USB functionality. I am writing this review with the on-screen keyboard because my mouse is the only working peripheral. Tested with a Linux LiveCD and replaced my keyboard; the issues persisted.

Also, if you do buy this board, be warned that it only carries a lifetime warranty if you register it within 30 days. Otherwise, you may be stuck with a 1 year warranty as I now am. Due to this shady business practice, I will do my best to avoid EVGA in the future.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

I do apologize you are having issues with USB. If possible I would recommend testing another power supply to confirm its an issue with the controller. If you do not have this available or get the same results please contact our 24/7 technical support (888)-881-3842 so we can assist you with a replacement.

5 out of 5 eggsclassified 3

Pros: the board is a beast!just like every other evga product ive had it worked right out the box and just plain out blows my mind evertytime i use it.i know its somewhat dead technology since the new boards came out but i will be using this board for a long time!

Cons: not to big of a deal but there are no usb 3 headers to hookup my nxzt phantom which suppourts usb 3.0 on the front port. and why after all these years do they still put the cpu 8 pin so far away from all other connections,it drives me crazy to stretch a cable under and across things.
