5 out of 5 eggsGood Board...Good Price

Pros: All the normal bells and whistles included with other X79 motherboards.
Compatible bios was preinstalled, no need to request a new bios chip. After reading various comments; this was a major concern.

Cons: Only 2 SATA3 connectors.Larger form factor E-ATX may not fit in a standard ATX case. You have to see whether or not your case has a raised ridge or not what will prevent the motherboard from fitting correctly.

Other Thoughts: Overall a very good purchase. I'm well pleased with the product as a whole, and would consider purchasing again. Even though the product was listed as factory-refurbished.

1 out of 5 eggsEVGA x79 FTW

Pros: Motherboard has all the bells and whistles .

Cons: First EVGA board ever bought and so far its been hell trying to get an image to my monitor. I can already imagine the RMA fee and a longer waiting period .
This will be my last EVGA board ever bought. I should have stayed with ASUS . They never let me down, But i try giving a chance to this brand on motherboards.
Apologizing to me on here wont get my board running . They should not charge a fee for a RMA if you only had this for a week .
Thats another thing about online buying. You get good deals but if anything goes bad. There are fees and waiting periods .

Other Thoughts: EVGA cards are good. I thought maybe my board was one of the unlucky few but it seems like many people had issues with this board. Time to play the waiting game and wait till the offices open after christmas.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great - now

Pros: Easy to use. Plug and play - after some issues.

Cons: Had to RMA it out of the box. BIOS issues on the original.

Other Thoughts: Upgraded from X58/920 system. Knew that there were issues but had a X58 EVGA board and wanted to stay with the company. Out of the box, it had BIOS 25 installed. You can't flash the BIOS from that version - USB, CD, nor HD would read. Just a warning to others - you will have to RMA if you get it from Newegg - at least for now. They apparently don't have the updated BIOS boards in stock. Shame on them. They know there is an issue - just send in your stock of boards, Newegg, and EVGA will send you the same board with the current BIOS. Anyways, that is what EVGA did. It worked perfectly out of the box the 2nd time. BIOS 34 installed. No issues so far! I'm pleased. 1 egg off for sending me the "old" board when new versions of the BIOS are available.

2 out of 5 eggsRead before you buy

Pros: EVGA Support is top notch.

Cons: Problem with system freeze and USB power loss.
And a weird thing with the audio telling me that I have unpugged a device..but nothing is plugged in.
and other random problems

Other Thoughts: I just had to RMA my MB to evga..But after reading their forums there are a lot people having the same problems.
I am thinking is a bios problems.
IMO hold off on buying Any EVGA x79 MB

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

We released a new BIOS today, version 33 (http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=1450348), can you please test it out and let me know if you still have issue?

1 out of 5 eggsStay away from this board

Pros: Layout is great, look of the board is great, and I don't mind the 4x memory slots as I'll never use > 16GB of ram for gaming.

Cons: Where to start.. This board has given me a ton of problems

- random lockups
- usb issues
- won't overclock at all even after BIOS upgrade

After struggling for more than a week with two seperate cards, seperate memory I gave up and went with the Asus board.. first time booted up no problems, second reboot 4.4ghz on stock voltage not a single blue screen since.

Other Thoughts: EVGA is a great company but they simply have something wrong with their X79 series boards. Their 58 Classified was one of the best boards I've ever had. Hopefully they'll get this sorted.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

I am sorry to hear of the issues you had with the board. If anyone else is having issues please update to our latest BIOS 33. If you continue to have any problems with the board please contact me directly so I can work with you: Matth@evga.com

1 out of 5 eggsbuy at your own risk

Pros: we be some if it worked.....

Cons: Where to start..... Read the reviews on EVGA so many people reporting usb slots stop working and then the whole computer just freezes up and now im one of them. Workerd on fixing what ever was wrong for 2 days testing every part I put on the board and trying different bios thinking it might be something eles. It was a very long anoying 2 days spent $3800 on a new build this was the only bad part, RMA for a refund to newegg nice restoking fee taken out of the price i paid and had to pay to ship it back, (FAIL) customer service IMO will never buy a EVGA MB again.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

I do apologize you had issues with your new build. If you still have the product and would like to work with me directly on a resolution please contact me directly, Matth@evga.com so we can resolve this for you.

Other Thoughts: very good support from EVGA from and newegg for RMA.
See on the internet a couple of same problem of freezing whit this board .maybe bad batch.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Tons of BIOs options. Solid construction.

Cons: Only 2 6.0Gbs SATA Ports, only allows for 3-way SLI due to PCI lane spacing. Terrible USB controllers; issues with USB ports surging and dying. There are only 4 RAM DIMMS, where as other brand high-end boards have 8.

Other Thoughts: I had to RMA the first board I received because my system would lock up and the USB ports would lose power. I ordered another board, and it came with the exact same problem. Through hours and hours of testing, swapping hardware, the MB was the issue.

EVGA needs to really hammer out these issues, or their great customer support won't be enough to keep their customers around.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

I am sorry to hear of your issues with the usb ports. If you are getting the same problem with 2 separate boards it maybe a common component causing the issue. If possible I would test another power supply to see if the issue persists. If it does please contact me directly, Matth@evga.com, so I can work with you on this.

4 out of 5 eggs3-Way SLI is only x16-x8-x8

Pros: Extremely impressive layout, components, and serious overclocking ability.

Ability to run PhysX along-side the 3-way SLI without going through the NB.

Native 6 Gbps (though, only 2 due to Intel'x X79 limitation).

Has a huge amount of USB 3.0 ports, though they are not native; going through a 3rd party controller. Intel X79 limitation.

Cons: Unlike all other X79 platform motherboards, all EVGA X79 boards only support x16-x8-x8 in 3-way SLI, and EVGA was not clear about this for us early adopters. This translates to about 2-5% performance drop in gaming (per TomsHardware), and during CUDA applications this is a big 17% drop in speed!

EVGA has said in their forum that there will not be a BIOS update to resolve this issue. It will remain x16-x8-x8.

Also, unlike other EVGA products from the past, this motherboard only has an 3-year limited warranty, which you can upgrade for additional fees when registering the board. No more free automatic lifetime (10-year) warranty with the premium price.

Finally, the motherboard manual does not address the x16-x8-x8 limitation, nor offer any help in PCI-Lane assignments.

Other Thoughts: I waited a very very long time for NewEgg to carry this in stock. But I couldn't wait any longer, so I bought it direct from EVGA and paid the premium. Really REALLY wanted NewEgg to carry it sooner.

The "limited" support of the x16-x8-x8 3-way SLI is no where mentioned in any documentation, making it very hard to know about ahead of time.

I haven't decided to return the motherboard yet, as it is a beautiful piece of art. I am hoping this information helps others be aware of the limitations of this motherboard.

I am awarding it 4 eggs because it does exactly what it says it will. Knocking off an egg due to unclear (shady?) documentation of the x16-x8-x8 limitation, and limited manual details.

Also note, Intel decided to hold back on the PCI 3.0 specification release, and therefore this board is only a PCI 2.0. It says "3.0 Compatible", but I have my doubts due to native chipset limitations. We'll see in 2012!
