1 out of 5 eggsA Complete Disgrace To The EVGA Name

Pros: NONE, since I can't even get past the BIOS splash screen.

Cons: The worst part about this board, is that it is NOT compatible with the GTX 7xx line of graphics cards. When I tried to start my computer for the first time, I got a B4 error. Upon research on EVGA's forums, I found that this is because the board is NOT compatible with my GTX 780 card. I have to buy an older card, start up the computer, then flash the BIOS, and then I can install my GTX 780. This is a complete outrage, and a disgrace to the PC community. If I bought this board AFTER the GTX 780 came out, there should have been a warning in the product description.

Secondly, the RAM slots are located too close to the CPU socket, causing intereference between the RAM cooling fins, and the CPU cooler. I had to remove the cooling fins from two of my RAM cards. Luckily, the CPU cooler is blowing cold air directly onto them.

Third, it doesn not have a USB 3.0 internal plug, therefore I am unable to connect my case's USB 3.0 to the motherboard.

Other Thoughts: I am very disappointed in EVGA, and am utterly disgusted that they did not feel the need to warm their customers that the GTX 7xx series cards are not compatible.

4 out of 5 eggsGood all-rounder

Pros: LGA 2011 for a low price, USB 3.0 on the back along with Firewire & eSATA, SATA 6Gbps inside, lots of PCI-E x16 slots, easy to work on, etc.

Cons: No USB 3.0 header on board and 4 RAM slots instead of 8.

Other Thoughts: First board that came had a defective RAM slot. Issue was solved with EVGA phone tech support (very helpful) and a NewEgg RMA. EVGA support website not as good as ASUS, if you care about that kind of thing.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Well positioned connectors. 4.5 Ghz overclock was flawless. Runs folding at home like a beast.

Cons: I/O shield is improperly cut making multiple connectors inaccessable.

Other Thoughts: Where can I get another I/O shield???

1 out of 5 eggsterrible mobo

Pros: sleek look, other than that noting else

Cons: terrible BIOS, i tried running a recent GPU (radeon hd 7950) and couldnt get it to work. i even sent it to a tech without any results, had to end up buying a new mobo, also newegg doesn't let me get a refund, only a replacement. overall bad mobo, should work with older GPUs

Other Thoughts: should not buy this mobo unless you enjoy getting ripped off, that is unless you plan on using it for a work computer more than a gaming one, with an older gpu

Manufacturer Response:

There are no known issues with running this card with any PCI-E 1.1 or higher GPUs. Please contact us at 888-881-3842 so we can get more information on this case.

Thank you,
Brandon B

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent, but upgrade your bios!

Pros: - Feature rich
- Affordable (provided you catch it on sale)

Cons: - None once I got it running
- Shipped with old bios (see Other Thoughts)

The big heat-sink north of the CPU socket made cpu-fan installation a little awkward, but that was mostly due to the fan I was installing (Cooler Masters Gemini II).

Other Thoughts: I picked up two of these while they were on sale for ~$150, for new machines for my wife and myself.
To go with them, I also got brand new EVGA GeForce GTX 760's.

After bolting everything together, the machine wouldn't get past the POST, showing error code 'B4' .
Hours of troubleshooting later, I discovered that a) the motherboard shipped with bios from early 2012, and b) the GTX 760 uses new features that require you to flash the bios to the most recent version.

After 15 minutes of browsing the EVGA support site, and following their excellent guide for creating a bootable USB stick to facilitate the flash, I was up and running.

- You will need a compatible card to do the flash (I used my old GTX 560)
- The motherboard facilitates dual-bios. Make sure you flash both while you've got the usb-stick handy.

5 out of 5 eggsI'm poor

Pros: Let me just preface this by saying......I'm poor.......really poor. When this came up around Christmas time for about $79.00 after rebate, I said "oh well so the kids miss a couple of meals. I couldn't pass up the chance to get into an x79 board for so little money. EVGA did send the rebate in a timely manner so I am very happy with the whole buying experience and am happy with the operation of this board. My hungry kids however are not.

Cons: My kids went hungry for a bit.

Other Thoughts: It's now late June and I finally scraped enough money together to go down to my local big brick and mortar, you know, the one that sells processors really cheap to bring you in the store. I bought my I7 3820 processor and ran out because I didn't want to get tempted to buy anything else because I had no extra money. I'm poor, I probably already mentioned that. Anyhow.....I'm in the x79 family and my kids didn't lose that much weight so it's all good.

5 out of 5 eggsPerformance Product

Pros: 16x16 SLI capable is always a graphics boost when it comes to PCIe. Quad channel memory capable up to 32 Gig is nice. Passive cooling on the MoBo in my opinion is better than having a fan burn out. Bios features galore.

Cons: DO NOT adjust the BCLK ration or frequency. This will cause problems with the LAN and USB. Adjust the clock multiplier in the BIOS. READ the forums on overclocking this board.

Other Thoughts: Core i7 3820 at 4.3GHz
16 Gig G-Skill 4x4 memory at 2133
This Mother board
2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti's SLI'd
Kingston SSD's
Silverstone 1000 Watt PSU
Thermal Take Case with 2 180mm fans 1 intake 1 exhaust and temps peak 50 deg Celsius under heavy load.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: Had an easy time with setup. Dropped in CPU, RAM, and the thing powered up perfectly first try. BIOS setup takes a minute to get accustomed to, but works great. First thing I did was flash the BIOS to the newest. worked like a charm. This system has been a work in progress for over 20 years of builds and upgrades. I am pleased to add this EVGA board to the pedigree.

Cons: So far, none I can think of.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Board

Pros: So far everything is nice about this motherboard. No Issues at all.

Cons: For some reason the motherboard does not have a USB3.0 header to hook up the front panel ports. I currently do not have any USB3.0 devices and the case came with a header converter, so running the ports at USB2.0 instead.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat board

Pros: Have been using this in a primary system with a cpu clock of 4.2ghz on a 3820 for the last 2 months. The quad channel memory is great for ram disks and i needed the pci lanes for raid cards and gpu. I stress test it a lot usually running 6 to 10 virtual machines at once and minor gaming. Have not had a single problem with this board.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I really didn't find any of the flaws other reviews stated. For a general purpose workstation this is ususally enough for anyone. Flashing the new bios has changed with efi but this bios is simply intuiative compared to other efi's i have used. Overall phenominal product, would deffinetely buy again.
