1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Nice features. EVGA is typically a great poduct.

Cons: DOA. you could push on certain points on the mobo and it would light up with power, but it still wouldn't post.

Other Thoughts: Newegg RMA'd it right away and processed a refund immediately. Newegg was great.

1 out of 5 eggsIt looked nice.

Pros: It seems like it would be a decent board.

Cons: First board was DOA. RMA'd it and got another. Second board was buggy and didn't want to power up the first few times. It functioned normally for a month and a half with the exception of if I did a shutdown and not a restart it would not power back up unless I disconnected the power supply and toyed with the reset on the board itself for 15 - 20 minutes. It has now stopped functioning completely. I don't believe I will use EVGA for anything other than graphics cards anymore.

3 out of 5 eggsNot compatible with 4900 series

Pros: Looks good, Good design,

Cons: See Below. Live and learn SMH

Other Thoughts: Just got off the phone with EVGA just learned this board is not compatible with the new I7-4900 Series. Its my fault for not checking the evga site to see the compatibility. But i really wish new egg would clarify a bit better so more people dont make this mistake.. The guy said they dont even know when a BIO's update would be put out for this board..

1 out of 5 eggsDOA X3

Pros: (1) Great feature set
(2) Great customer service & technical support
(3) Board supposedly runs hotter than other X79 based boards (from what I've heard anyway), but EVGA has great heatsinks. And if that isn't enough, they also make custom water blocks specifically for their X79 boards if you're into custom water cooling.

Cons: First board DOA - RMA to EVGA
Second board DOA - RMA to EVGA
Third board DOA - returned to EVGA for refund

Other Thoughts: I've been building systems for over 10 years, and this is singularly the least reliable board I've ever come across. It literally would not even post into the BIOS. I went round and round with Tech Support - which was fantastic in walking me through all the different reasons why it might not be working - and ultimatly they figured it was either the mobo or the CPU (i3930k). Since they had tested the first two boards and determined that one of them was not defective (or so they claim) and the last board was showing the exact same symptoms, they concluded I had a DOA CPU. I honestly didn't believe that at the time (try googling symptoms of a DOA CPU -- the results are all how it is so exceedingly rare that it is most likely some other component). I eventually took my entire rig into an independent shop for testing at my own expense. Over the course of a week, they tore everything apart and tested each component individually in a controlled test bed. Result -- confirmed DOA motherboard with all other components fully functional.

Customer service & tech support was great and I would not hesitate to give EVGA another chance -- on a totally different product. But at the same time, I can't stress how disappointed I am to have spent over a year going back and forth with EVGA tech support with three DOA boards that initially cost $399 and still not have a functional computer.

2 out of 5 eggsMeh

Pros: What does work works well.

Cons: Looks like I'm joining a rather large club of folks having trouble with the USB 2 & 3 ports. USB ports lasted almost a month before starting to go dead one by one. Getting the USB power surge warning intermittently.

Other Thoughts: Been using EVGA boards for year, this is first time I've had an issue.

1 out of 5 eggsEVGA X79 Motherboards

Pros: They look good.

Cons: All of EVGA's X79 motherboards are deeply flawed. Many owners, including myself have done multiple returns of these boards and never do get one that works.

The USB 3.0 ports don't work.
The USB 2.0 ports work only occasionally.
It's advertised as being PCIe 3.0 capable..., but it's not unless you buy an expensive Xeon processor.
Memory always has to have it's timings set manually. XMP profiles don't work on any of their X79 boards

Buy any EVGA X79 motherboard, and you'll regret it!

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

Please contact me directly at bbrunson@evga.com as we may have a solution for you on this matter.

4 out of 5 eggsFeature Packed E-ATX Motherboard

Pros: - There's so many USB 3.0 ports!
- (If I remember right) four internal USB 2.0 headers and one 3.0 header.
- Two SATA 6GB ports, and 6 normal SATA ports.
- Nice looking heatsinks all over the board covering the MOSFET and bridges.

Cons: The first board was defective. One DIMM was broken so that when it was populated, the system wouldn't post.
After spending about two days on the phone with EVGA and Newegg, I was able to get an RMA for $45 in shipping.

The new board works like a charm, but I had to take off an egg for the painful RMA process.

Other Thoughts: The RMA process was such a pain.

After being on the phone with Newegg for about 20 minutes, we had set up a refund RMA for the board (Or so I thought). Basically I would just re-order the board with whatever shipping I wanted, ship out the defective board and the new one would get here before they even got the old one. After a few minutes we had set that up and I thought all was well.

The next day, I logged onto Newegg and noticed that he had set up the refund RMA on the wrong board (I ordered two different boards in the same order, the other one being for a different build).
That wasn't a big deal, it was a simple mistake, so I called back Newegg support and explained the situation only to find out that my defective board was not refundable. The only way I could get an RMA would be the normal week-or-so wait.

THEN I ended up calling EVGA and I found out their RMA process was much simpler and more end-user friendly. They offered a cross-shipment method, meaning that they would send me a board after I paid them like 3 dollars collateral (and shipping), and I would send them the defective board in the packaging the new one came in. I ended up getting the next day shipping, which was $45 for both ways.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It wasn't DOA.

Cons: Poor compatibility, bad bios. No xmp... Over clocking is a real guessing game. Even compatibility with newer hardware is chancy. This manufacturer has gone downhill.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

This motherboard was designed for overclocking. Please make sure to follow the overclocking guides on our forums.

Thank you,
Brandon B

4 out of 5 eggsGood board, BAD design flaw

Pros: Supports a bunch of GPUs, plenty of OC ability, good board, stable.

Cons: If you have two dual-slot GPUs installed in the PCIex16 slots, you CANNOT have cables plugged into the on-board USB headers. you would think a company renowned for their GPUs would realize this problem.
