This motherboard is compatible with an intel i7 LGA 1150 socket only, 4th generation of intel cpu. Pretty much the haswell type processors. CPU I purchased with motherboard is a i7 4770k, very good cpu compared to the i7 920 i had. There are different types/generations of the i7 so make sure u get the one with the same cpu socket as the motherboard.

Hi there, looking to build a haswell i7 system soon and I have been an EVGA motherboard & graphics cards users for years. Sadly it seems that they are offering less of a selection then they used to. Now I apologize since this has already been asked in a way but I would like more of a straight answer before purchasing a $220 motherboard.

Is this PCIE 3.0 or 2.0?

I do not wish to know if the board is compatible with PCIE 3.0 cards, I just want to know straight up, are the PCIE lanes 3.0 or 2.0 because in 30mins of searching the internet for clear specs I have not yet been able to find a direct answer.

Also I was planning on going with 2 EVGA gtx7604gb in sli on this board, If I were to install a 3rd video card, say a old 9800gt, as a stand alone physics card would it cause the lanes to run in 8x4x4? or would my 2 cards in sli still run at 8x8?

Hello, I'm building a new pc for gaming.  Is this motherboard compatible with a *CM Hyper 212+ cpu cooler (specifically would the width of the cpu cooler allow it to fit into position with that heatsink so close to the cpu socket)?  Also will I be able to fit a GTX Titan onto it?  Thank you

I just installed this MB the other day with a ZALMAN CNPS9500A-LED 92mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler.  The CM Hyper looks like it is much narrower than what I put in so I doubt you'll have an issue.  I also put in a EVGA ACX Cooler 03G-P4-2784-KR GeForce GTX 780 3GB 384-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 SLI Support Video Card and it looks about the same as the titan size wise.  So I doubt you'll have an issue their either.  My only concern with the CPU cooler would be your power supply.  I put mine in a Cooler Master HAF X - High Air Flow Full Tower Computer Case with Windowed Side Panel and USB 3.0 Ports and with the bottom mounted PS there was no space issues at all.

The specs state that this board has "PCI Express 3.0 Support." What does that mean? Would it utilize a PCIe 3.0 GFX card to it's full capabilities or does it just accommodate it, i.e. EVGA GTX 780?

That means you would need to use an Ivy Bridge series cpu (22nm silicon) or newer in order to enable/utilize the PCIe 3 support - at which point your PCIe 3 graphics card can perform as it was intended.
(which isn't going to be by any significant amount unless the card manufacturer has certain features throttled down when plugged into a PCIe 2 gen slot)

It has 6 fan headers, there may be one or two more tucked away, but 6 is all I use. That is including CPU fan. Will open up my tower when I get home and update this for a final official count.

Question 9

Would the BIOS version that ships with this motherboard support an i7-4790K out of the box?  If not, is flashing possible without a CPU installed?  I'm aware that Z87 supports 4th-gen Core processors but I've read that board manufacturers have had to issue BIOS updates to ensure compatibility with Devil's Canyon.  I know EVGA has, as well, but I don't have a spare LGA 1150 processor to boot to BIOS in case I need to flash out of the box.  Thanks.

I am using an I-7 4770 cpu with the MB your asking about. it appears the two chips are quite similar with only a few differences. I didn't have to make any bios changes and the system is a rock! I haven't shut the system off with the exception of when thunder storm threatens in the area! Like I said, the system rocks! I don't think you can flash the board "system" without the board being operational, you might check with EVGA. Since the 4770 and 4790 are quite similar the 4790 might just work without having to change anything. Again, EVGA should be able to answer your question and be more helpful.

I do not know the dimensions of the graphics card but there are other reasons you cannot use two high speed graphics cards - there is only one PCIe 16x slot.  The slots are as follows (in order):
PCIe 16x/8x
PCIe 8x/4x

PCIe 1x (long) 
There are many memory sets for this computer.  Memory manufactures have charts that will tell you what memory will work.
There are two USB 3.0 headers and two USB 2.0 headers on the mobo.
