Engineered for the enthusiast and built form the ground up to give you all the essentials you need for overclocking. Comes with a GUI BIOS that is focused on functionality, new software interface for overclocking in the O.S., ultra high quality components, premium Creative Core3D audio, robust PCI-E 3.0, and memory trace layout.

It starts with a full 8 Layer PCB, improving overall overclock stability and PCB cooling. The memory trace layout is optimized for compatibility, improved overclocking and 4 DIMM memory support. The Z97 Classified also features a 8 Phase PWM for the cleanest variable power switching and efficient power to your CPU. The PCI-E layout is improved, PCI-E 3.0 compatibility, and 4-Way SLI support in E-ATX form factor. A slew of great onboard devices including additional 2 Port SATA 6G controller for a total of 8 SATA 6 ports, Dual Intel Gigabit LAN's and a USB 3.0 controller for a total of 6 USB 3.0 devices.

The GUI BIOS has been further enhanced, and is brought down to a very lean state while achieving its main goal of keeping it easy to use and follow while not compromising at all on functionality. The way a modern BIOS should be.

  • 8 Layer PCB
  • 4 DIMMs for up to 32GB of DDR3 RAM
  • Memory speeds up to 2666MHz and above
  • 4 way SLI
  • Dual Intel Gigabit NIC's
  • 8 total internal SATA3/6G ports
  • E-ATX form factor
  • Native USB3 support
  • Right Angled 24 pin for easier access
  • PCI-E Disable Switches
  • Integrated Display Ports
  • Creative Core3D

High layer count enhances stability both for heavy loads as well as high over-clocks.

Higher volume of precious metal (Gold) used in the sockets greatly improves the conductivity and produces a cleaner signal due to less resistance/impedance. The Z97 Classified features 300% more gold than the standard Z97 Socket.

No need to remove a card when testing, instead you can disable the slot with a dip-switch, this can greatly reduce the time spent in troubleshooting , as you do not need to disassemble anything to isolate PCI-E components.

The Z97 Classified is rated for 4 Way SLI to handle the most demanding video loads.

Not having the main power for the board facing perpendicular makes it easy to get the cables routed well and out of the way.

When testing on the Z97, or running it in a benching environment where you do not need to worry about wiring the board to a case to have access to power and reset buttons, they are built onto the board.

An 8 Phase PWM helps to ensure that the power reaching the processor is clean and stable.

The Z97 Classified is not just focused on the upper end of extreme builds, but also with the samller components as well. As such dual Display Ports, Creative Core3D onboard sound, also dual integrated INTEL NIC's so you have the best quality network connection right out of the box.

The Z97 Classified comes preloaded with triple BIOS for ultimate protection. Whether you pushed a brink OC until it is not bootable, or you suffered a power outage during a BIOS flash, you can always switch to another BIOS, boot as usual, then if desired, hot-flash the faulted BIOS.

These motherboards also feature EVGA's new GUI BIOS that focuses on the best overclocking support, functionality, and are straight and to the point, the way a modern BIOS should be.

5 out of 5 eggsSuperb Motherboard

Pros: Having owned ASUS & Gigabyte boards most of my life, my expectations were always set pretty high. My last motherboard purchased was an EVGA P67 FTW which was somewhat of a let down in all honesty. Which brings me to this board! I knew exactly what I wanted for my next build, and the Z97 Classified fit the bill perfectly, at least on paper & reviews. After putting the new system together, booting into bios with UEFI which my P67 FTW lacked(my Asus Sabertooth P67 had UEFI......) I knew right away I was going to love this board. Tons of Sata connections, Love the Post Code Display which once posted, becomes a temperature monitor. Ascetically this board is beautiful! Overclocking is a breeze & nothing too it with a K series CPU. For out of the box setups or diagnostics, you have the power & reset buttons on the motherboard which I think for a top end motherboard, people have come to expect & love. Tons of PCI-E lanes for multi-gpu setups. So far board has been rock solid!

Cons: I know the Classified line has always been the black and red theme, however I hope one day they change it up. Red Post Code Display & On-Board Led's really don't go well with a blue lighted build, or green for that matter. Guess we'll call it conflict of colors. Having the green glowing "Gefore GTX" on GPU's, Intel self contained water cooler that glows blue, Blue Cold Cathodes, and the Red Led's of the Classified, it's starting to look like Christmas in my tower........I don't care much for Christmas :)

Other Thoughts: With all seriousness though, from what little time I have spent with the board, it's already becoming one of my all time favorite Motherboards. Being as Skylake & the 1151 socket at the time of purchasing was just about to be released, getting this board when all said and done for $200 was well worth it! Couldn't be more happy!

5 out of 5 eggsBeautiful Motherboard, Clean Bios

Pros: I absolutely love the way this motherboard looks in my case. The best one I could find that doesn't clash with my rig's color scheme. The EVGA bios are also very simple and clean.

Cons: I only have one problem with this motherboard but for me it's not enough to take away an egg is the fact that for whatever reason EVGA only put one USB 2.0 header on the board. I'm using an h100i GTX which needs to use an internal header for Corsair Link but everyone and their mother complains about that software so I opted to keep my front panel USB 2.0 ports instead.

Other Thoughts: I had a little trouble plugging in my USB 3.0 header and 24 Pin power cable to the motherboard because of the right angle design. Not mentioning this as a con because the board clearly says Extended ATX. While my Thermaltake Chaser MK-i is massive it does not mention being able to fit e-ATX boards so I have only myself to blame but it all worked out in the end.

5 out of 5 eggsLoving it!!!

Pros: Had this board for a couple days now and i'm very happy with it! Had no issue's navigating through the bios and runs like a champ. Got my 4790k OC'd at 4.8ghz!!!

Cons: 24 pin can be a pain to take out. Really had to yank on the cable.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Board

Pros: Current build:
Intel i7 4790K
G-Skill Ripjaw 16GB 2133mhz
Asus GTX Titan X
Kingston HyperX 120GB SSD
WD 2TB hard drive X 2
Corsair 760T White Case
Custom Water cooled loop that includes CPU and GPU.
list goes on and on with other various parts.

Board is extremely sturdy, no flexing.
Triple BIOS.
Dual NIC.
Black color scheme.
Built in BIOS speaker.
Temp display on board.
Big passive heatsinks on board
PLEX chip
90 degree connects for 24 pin and 3.0 usb
Dual 8 pin connectors on top of board
Extremely easy to overclock cpu

Cons: Hard to connect the 24 pin, felt like it was going to break the board by jamming the connector in.
Some LED lights cannot be disabled.
Unable to verify RAM slots for dual channel.
Few internal usb 2.0 connectors

Other Thoughts: I was considering an Asus board but most of their boards have a red color scheme. So, I went with this board due to its all black color scheme. Probably could have pushed the CPU to 5.0ghz with water cooling but its at 4.7ghz. In addition was able to put the latest Bios on this board without any issues. My first board that I purchased was an Asrock z97 mobo but that fried within a few days, I guess it couldn't handle the GTX Titan X.

2 out of 5 eggsFalse claims made in item description

Pros: Great looking, sturdy motherboard. The board will run 2 GPUs in x8 X x16 mode (see cons) which is more than other Z97 based boards will do

Cons: DOES NOT DO Dual GPUs at x16 speed as claimed in the product description UNLESS you use two specific PCIe lanes that impossible to use for those of us with 2 ea 3 slot cards. EVGA SUPPORT is clueless about this issue yet I found on their forum that it is a known issue that cannot be solved due to the architecture of the Z97. Unfortunately it was not an EVGA person that was able to identify the issue. 2 eggs removed (misleading advertising, lack of advertised functionality).

Other Thoughts: There are NUMEROUS connectors (ECP among others I couldn't readily identify on this mobo - GPU Link, yep the board does that but try and find anything in the documentation on it). 1 egg removed for this issue.

If th is issue can be solved, I would very much appreciate EVGA support responding to this review.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Board

Pros: Board looks great and is very sturdy. Easy to install and well labeled.
Bios is easy and well done.

Cons: Memory location is a little close to the CPU and heat sink next to CPU is a little high, both of these caused issues for me and the CPU fan/heatsink.

Other Thoughts: I bought two of these boards and they both work great so far. I had no real issue on the installs, except for the CPU fans/heat sinks that I purchased with it. On one the CPU fan hit the boards heatsink and the memory's heatsink in slot one on the other the fan only hit the memory's heatsink so I removed it. Besides that I love the boards.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent MOBO if you can get it at a good price

Pros: Solid, well built board
Probably the best passive heatsink on a z97 mobo
Triple BIOS
PLX Chip for additional PCIE lanes (becoming more important these days)
Simplistic design with very few third party controllers (less can go wrong)
Creative Core 3d Audio (excellent sound!!!)
Dual NICs
Nice BIOS interface (but not for everyone)

Cons: Not a lot of internal or external usb headers (if that matters)
No m.2 or sata express, only mSATA
dual displayport onboard only (if you care about this), etc
Fan control only through BIOS (no software in OS)

Other Thoughts: I got this mobo on a sale when it was almost $100 off. At that price it was totally worth it. If your just looking for a very solid board and dont want a lot of bloated software attached, this is it. While it doesnt have m.2 on board, thats ok bc many boards place these in silly spots and so a pcie card would be better anyways. Plus the fact that it has a PLX chip and a good implementation to lower graphics card latency, will allow you to get a lot more out of your pcie bandwidth which is more important than onboard pcie.

While this board may not be for everyone, it was definately the right board for me. Its got it where it counts and is a premium product.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat, but too much and not a whole lot of support from the manufacturer

Pros: This motherboard offers lots of great features
Comes with a non generic sound card, but it is ancient
Looks aesthetically amazing!!
Great cooling

Cons: My power supply is in the way of some of the connectors
Hard to plug in sata connectors
Helluva expensive, got for christmas though
Manual didn't state which ram slots to put in dual channel or single channel just how to put ram in
My kingston hyperx predator 2666 2x4gb wasen't compatible, so my new rig is now pointless until new ram comes in

Other Thoughts: Other than the price and memory compatibility it's a fabulous motherboard if you want to shell out the $300+ for it
