5 out of 5 eggsGreat Motherboard!

Pros: Great product for the knowledgeable PC enthusiast.
Many over clocking options and user friendly bios.

Cons: Needs bios updates for onboard GFX.
During setup after drivers where installed on Windows 10 Pro x64 if the pc goes to sleep then wakes up 3 out of 5 times it will display static on monitor and require a restart (this happens with HDMI port unknown on display port).

Other Thoughts: If you know nothing about computers other than gaming or you are just buying it because its one of the most expensive boards you can find for gaming DON'T BUY IT!!! This board is designed for heavy over clocking. Extreme damage to components if you don't know what you are doing.

2 out of 5 eggsAn exercise in compromise and more expensive than it's worth

Pros: Well it boots guess that's a pro, looks Pretty.

Cons: This is an 3/4 way SLI/Crossfire Board. Lets face it, there are better boards that are much cheaper, but the only other Z170 board that supports 3/4 way SLI with PLEX is $100
more. So why not go X99 for Multi GPU capability? The reason is M.2, specifically M.2 raid support on the Z170 chip set. Unlike real motherboard manufactures like MSI, Gigabyte and Asrock which can have up to 3 M.2 Socket 3 Key M raid capability, EVGA puts a grand total of 1
Key M and then squanders the limited amount of PCH PCIe 3.0 lanes on a M.2 Key E slot that
nobody uses.

But there's more, So what if you still want M.2 raid? Luckily there is an option, slot 5 is a PCH Controlled x4 PCIe 3.0 with Intel RST support, which includes raid. Great Right? Just buy an M.2 PCIe 3.0 4X adapter card in addition to the $400 you already paid for the motherboard and you have x16 x16 Multi GPU and M.2 raid, perfect right? Well no, a quick look at the EVGA Z170 Classified, manual reads "Slot 1 and 4 tested to be fastest for 2 way SLI due to more CPU derived PCIe lanes on slot 1". But using slot 4 covers over slot 5 making it unusable, so instead of x16
(Native) x16 slots 1 and 4 you are forced to use slots 1 and 2 and you are reduced to slot 1 being x8(Native) slot 2 x16.

I specifically purchased an EATX case for this motherboard, but after getting it installed I
still could not plug the 6 pin PCIe at the bottom of the board because someone designed the
plug pointed down at the power supply. If you use the I/O shield, it will block the placement of a video card on slot 1. I literally had to take a drill and cut a slot in the mounting hole so Icould move the I/O shield to not short out my video card.

EVGA software is a problematic, the only thing that I use on PrecisionX 16 is the on screen display (OSD) and it only works 10% of the time. You can adjust the fan profile IF you have patience and a high DPS mouse but I had to reboot my computer to have it reliably take
effect, So I use MSI afterburner instead. I'm not sure what the plasma video test is supposed to prove, But PrecisionX 16 looks like a class A program compared to the BIOS
1.05 which still has problems with memory detection and EVGA UEFI BIOS is a mess and completely
incoherent, I challenge you to create an M.2 raid with that interface.

Other Thoughts: On another note I recently purchased $3000 worth of EVGA products, five Video cards and a motherboard. When I attempted to post a link on the EVGA forums to a water block for an EVGA product someone was looking for, I couldn't because I needed a minimum of 50 posts in order to link.

What turned out to be EVGA policy to prevent spam, quickly escalated into a series of personal attacks, verbal
abuse, offensive images and intimidation posted by the EVGA community on the EVGA forums in a thread that I
started. Apparently if I have less than 50 posts not only am I not allowed to link, I was not even "entitled" to
even post an opinion let alone a complaint, no matter how many EVGA products I buy. Someone suggested I had to
purchased at least $5000 to take me seriously.

I was told I was insane, disgusting and a liar and when one forum poster was through with his harassment of me
noted he had just hit 1500 posts. Because it was the public forum I was informed that I didn't "deserve" to own
EVGA products, then linked me to EVGA support website to return my merchandise. When I complained about my
treatment on the EVGA forums, I was told it was considered acceptable because I would have been treated worse on the ASUS forums.

It took almost a day and two pages of harassment before the moderators removed the personal attacks and offensive images but left the verbal abuse. Then quietly locked the thread to hide it, because the intimidation "has run it's course" and before you say it, I'm not alone. I usually buy MSI or Gigabyte but decided to go all EVGA this time and boy am I sorry.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: 4-way SLI with PLX, 8 SATA ports, Hardware seems to be of decent quality, decent board layout

Cons: The UEFI BIOS that comes on the board is extremely buggy. The BIOS must be updated to version 1.04 to even install Windows 7 since there is no proper keyboard emulation and Windows 7 does not include USB 3 drivers. However the Marvell SATA driver will cause Windows 7 x64 to BSOD with BIOS version 1.04. I think I finally have everything working now that BIOS 1.05 was released but it was quite a headache.

Other Thoughts: This is not only a problem with EVGA specifically but I have had way more issues with every single UEFI BIOS than I have ever had with any classic BIOS. UEFI BIOS developers need to stop spending their time trying to make the BIOS look all fancy with animations and mouse support and instead focus on making the BIOS actually do its job correctly the first time.

4 out of 5 eggsGood, Stable Board

Pros: Good component spacing. Fits in my Lian-li case with plenty of room for running clean cables. No issues thus far with overclocking.

Cons: Motherboard needs to be updated to the latest BIOS version to allow for installing Windows 7, and even then I had a terrible time getting the installer to run off of a USB key. I got sick of trying to get it to work, so I upgraded my backup of Windows 7 to Windows 10 and then did a fresh install on the new system.

Memory timing were wrong with automatic settings, so I had to manually set all of my timings.

Other Thoughts: Not really a con, but a bit of a let-down: no eSATA port on the board. I was planning on moving away from eSATA on my external backup eventually anyway, but the port on this board would have been nice.

4 out of 5 eggsfirst time evga buyer

Pros: clean looking board. lots of features. about the only board with 4 full length pcie slots.

Cons: the included evga i/o shield cover that hides all the i/o components on the inside of the case BLOCKS pcie slot 1. have to leave this part in the box.

Other Thoughts: i cannot get my intel 750 pcie drive to initialize when i set the memory to 3000 Mhz in bios. the system otherwise runs fine at that setting. i don't know if it's a bios issue, or a limitation on the 750's. evga support told me to check ratios that don't even exist in bios. so i'm at a loss on that.

5 out of 5 eggsCorrection NOTES

Pros: This motherboard is listed as a EATX motherboard, if you don't know what forum factors are for Mobo's don't build them yourself.
The board has everything but M2 RAID.

Cons: Very small con, when running 3 or 4 way SLI, you are requested to add the Supplemental PCI-E 6pin Power connector, which happens to be on the bottom of the board.

Other Thoughts: Not fair that the board would get a bad rap from people who have no clue what they're talking about.

1 out of 5 eggsEVGA engineers at it again

Pros: Everything except...

Cons: Bottom power cable?!?!?!?!
Didn't EVGA learn that this just doesn't work with any typical ATX case???
Refund.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Alexandre G.,

Thank you for your feedback, but please understand that this optional 6 pin PCI-e power connection is not required and included to ensure compatibility with multiple graphics cards. I can also confirm that most cases made to fit this board with the E-ATX form factor will not have any problems with connecting this cable. Please let us know if you should need any further support with your EVGA product as we are here 24 hours to support you at 1-888-881-3842 option 1 or by email at Newegg@evga.com.

Sincerely,
