Features

Features: The Raspberry Pi Starter kit has what you need to get started with the Pi. Just the basics, A memory card, Power supply and a clear case. This kit includes a translucent case that can sit on a desk or hang on a wall.the case also has a great feature in that it can also hold the Pi Camera.

The updated Pi 2 Model B design is based around a Broadcom BCM2836 SoC, which includes an Quad Core ARM7 900 MHz processor, VideoCore IV GPU, and 1 Gigabyte of RAM. This revision Pi 2 Model B board features four mounting holes for easy installation, a built-in reset circuit, and can be powered via the USB data ports. The design does not include a built-in hard disk or solid-state drive, instead relying on an microSD card for booting and long-term storage. This board is intended to run Linux kernel based operating systems.

The Raspberry Pi uses Linux-kernel based operating systems. The Raspberry Pi does not come with a real-time clock, so an OS must use a network time server, or ask the user for time information at boot time to get access to time and date info for file time and date stamping. However a real time clock (such as the DS1307) with battery backup can be easily added via the I2C interface.

Quad core ARMv7 CPU, an improvement over previous versions of the RPI. 1G of RAM, also an improvement over previous versions. Cons: USB 2.0. The four USB ports and ethernet port are in a built-in hub, which is attached on the board to one USB port. Having said that, I am using all four ports in addition to the ethernet portand an attached external hub with no performance problems as far as I can tell. No SATA. Other Thoughts: This is a neat little computer with lots of potential. It won't replace a modern desktop, but it just might be able to replace a laptop for e-mail/web browsing/playing media. I am using mine as a router running Devuan GNU/Linux alpha4. It runs a dhcp server, bind9, freeradius, radvd, openvpn, pppd for PPPOE, and some other programs. Skill level and imagination are the keys to this little device. It's likely I'll be getting a second one to experiment with in the not too distant future. Did you find this review helpful? I installed the Open Media Vault version of linux and I am using it as a network attached server. It works great. Cons: The one disappointment is that it only has a 100 Mbps NIC. I wish it had a 1000 Mbps. I also had a few issues trying to figure out how the case is put on, but that was figured out within about 10 minutes. Did you find this review helpful? The bundle came in horrid packaging and not even a manual. Sorta like someone threw it into a manila envelope and dumped it in the mail (not impressed). The starter kit came in a very official box like you would find on a store shelf and was packaged very nicely . The bundle came with a manual ! Both the bundle and the starter kit work exactly as they should and have as many applications as you can conjure up .User friendly and allow you to do much ,using a little space .
