Looking for a Media Player that doesn't take up much space. Look no further than the Media Center Starter Kit. This kit has the Raspberry Pi 2 Model B, Black case, Wireless ethernet and a HDMI cable. Everything you need to get started playing movies, browsing the internet or displaying photos.

The updated Pi 2 Model B design is based around a Broadcom BCM2836 SoC, which includes an Quad Core ARM7 900 MHz processor, VideoCore IV GPU, and 1 Gigabyte of RAM. This revision Pi 2 Model B board features four mounting holes for easy installation, a built-in reset circuit, and can be powered via the USB data ports. The design does not include a built-in hard disk or solid-state drive, instead relying on an microSD card for booting and long-term storage. This board is intended to run Linux kernel based operating systems.

The Raspberry Pi uses Linux-kernel based operating systems. The Raspberry Pi does not come with a real-time clock, so an OS must use a network time server, or ask the user for time information at boot time to get access to time and date info for file time and date stamping. However a real time clock (such as the DS1307) with battery backup can be easily added via the I2C interface.

4 out of 5 eggsAn excellent starting point.

Pros: It has pretty much all you need to get started with little excess. With a USB keyboard and mouse, plugged into a TV HDMI port this is a netbook class Linus computer.

Cons: Need an apt-get update, apt-get dist-upgrade to connect to a WPA wifi network. Need to make sure the keyboard is US, not UK.

Other Thoughts: Don't upgrade to Jessie just yet. Nice, but a bit too buggy. This is basically a netbook without peripherals and a with a GPIO bus with some high level tools to manipulate it.

3 out of 5 eggsWon't boot

Pros: Received all items as described

Cons: Won't boot.

Other Thoughts: I am unable to get the Pi 2 Model B to boot. The LEDs come on quickly and both stay lit. No activity. I've tried all the suggestions at https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=58151 and still no joy. The first attempts, I had HDMI hooked up to a display but got no signal. OK, so sometime after that I lost the provided NOOBS card, but I have formatted and load NOOBS on three different MicroSD cards and get the same behavior.
I can't send the order back to Newegg because I'm missing a piece (and that's my fault). But I really think the Pi is defective. What options do I have?

5 out of 5 eggsGood media center

Pros: Can do 1080p, no stuttering under provided Rasbian os.
Cool & fan less media center

Cons: no power off switch

Other Thoughts: easy to add switch with a togle on GPIO pins 5&6 to power up from off state and a python script to soft off in power on state.

3 out of 5 eggsBad case is a let down.

Pros: One stop shopping to get a pi up and running

Cons: The case is garbage. It would not latch together with or without the board installed. The case creates a tunnel to the network and USB ports that will cause issues connecting some cables/devices and removing the network cable. Replacing the case with a functional one completely negates any convenience of buying the kit.

Other Thoughts: You're better off rolling your own and getting individual quality components. The packaging could use a rethink as it very bulky and size inefficient which is marked contrast to the pi itself. This bulk does nothing to protect the contents that could not be achieved by right sized packaging and cutting the waste.
