5 out of 5 eggsHow to use the PoE

Pros: See Other

Cons: See Other

Other Thoughts: To get the PoE to work, You need a power source from a switch or an injector that is IEEE 802.3at or as known as PoE+ (or PoE Plus). To connect it, you will need a splitter to separate the data and the power to plug into the back of the server. The CPU 4 power connector is all that is needed to power this board if you do not plan on using the PoE route.

Thought some people are new at this might get confused about the PoE capabilities. I plan on buying this in the future for a pfSense server and wanted to know about this board and how to properly use PoE.

5 out of 5 eggsFast Pfsense BOX

Pros: Easy Pfsense box fast never goes above 3% with VPN mass loads of torrents, nothing can stop this. Fast.

Cons: You need LP memory 1.35. DDR3 but but the right stuff and it up and running.

Other Thoughts: I wish i could do the the POE setup but I didn't know how to configure it. That would be cool just having a brick power the Mother board but I just went with the 4 pin 12v rail. I just connected the green and black wire to the power supply and it stays on all the time. foot print is so small gonna save in the long run.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent Firewall Board

Pros: Dual Intel NICs
Celeron J1900

Cons: No thin backplate
No mention of DDR3L requirement on product page

Other Thoughts: I would be happy if it had come with the proper backplate (elsewise why bother calling it 'thin') and if I'd bought the correct RAM the first time.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for pfSense box

Pros: Fast, low power quad core Atom. Thin (fits it Silverstone PF13 case). 12V power input (I used a 12V 4A adapter). 2 Gb NICs. NO FAN needed.

Cons: There is very little documentation on this board. Just the connectors, etc. No bios updates.

Other Thoughts: I bought this board, along with 2x4Gb memory sticks and a 64GB Adata mSata SSD to build a high performance pFSense firewall. The board has 2 Intel Gbit Nics which work well. In a home office setup with pFsense running pFblockerNG, Squid3 and Snort the CPU is barely idling.
Booted pFsense of a USB stick and it was up and running in seconds.
